preface
Dear ladies and gentlemen,
Europe has ambitious plans for 2014. It intends to forge ahead with the integration of the European energy
market, which must be intensified if Europe is to maintain its competitiveness within the international
market and remain attractive as an industry location. At the same time Member States are, in some cases,
pursuing contradictory agendas in their national energy policies and respective market designs.
What will the future support schemes for renewable energies look like in practice? What can industry and
energy providers expect in terms of emissions trading, capacity markets and compensatory regulations?
What can and what must a new Commission address in the immediate future? Which road will it take?
A range of questions with a decisive influence on prices and supply security, on market opportunities and
investments.
The Second European Energy Congress energy Markets between “More europe” and national
autonomy on March 31st and april 1st 2014 in brussels, organised by the Süddeutscher Verlag
Veranstaltungen GmbH together with the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Siemens and in cooperation with the
con|energy agency will address precisely these questions. Following the successful launch event in May 2013,
the 2014 congress intends once again to offer impulses for strategic considerations, stimulate discussion
in the industry and provide you with first hand information on current European energy policy proposals.
As speakers we have succeeded in winning high calibre experts from politics, the energy economy, industry,
associations, media and science. Exchange ideas with industry colleagues from Europe and discuss with us
how energy policy concepts can be successfully implemented and what impulses are needed for the future!
Together with all the participants, we are very much looking forward to greeting you in Brussels in March
2014.
Yours sincerely
