If you’re reading this magazine, you’ve probably already
played a round of golf or two. So have I. And if you didn’t
know that the Hamburg region encompasses over 66 golf
courses and hotels, then we have that in common as well.
Hamburg’s popularity as a cultural and metropolitan travel
destination is well-known, but the city isn’t exactly associated with golf. Yet, 66 courses is quite significant, isn’t it? Within that number you not only have diversity (golf courses
can be found both in the middle of the city and in heathland, as well as directly at the North and Baltic seas), but,
even more importantly, the promise of a first-rate game and
the chance to experience top-notch accommodation. Here in
Hamburg, some of the best courses in Germany are paired
with unbeatable shopping and cultural experiences that sets
it apart from other golf regions. And so it was high time to
create this magazine. We hope you’re inspired by the stories
in these pages, which feature the unique character and atmosphere of Hamburg and the surrounding region: an area with

wie ich im Übrigen auch. Vielleicht eint uns ebenfalls die Gemeinsamkeit, dass auch Sie nicht wussten, dass die Golfregion
Hamburg über 66 Golfplätze und Golfhotels verfügt.
Die Vorzüge Hamburgs als Kultur- und Städtereiseziel sind
weithin bekannt, Golf verbindet man aber bisher eher mit anderen Regionen. 66 Plätze sind aber mal eine Aussage, oder?
Die Zahl steht für Vielfalt: Golfplätze in mitten der Stadt,
in der Heidelandschaft oder direkt an Nord- oder Ostsee
gelegen. Vor allen Dingen steht golfen in Hamburg aber für

The best professional golf players from the north of Germany
Florentyna Parker gehört zu den besten Golferinnen des Kontinents. Sie besitzt die englische Staatsbürgerschaft, bezeichnet
sich selbst aber als „englische Hamburgerin“. Florentyna Parker
wächst in Norddeutschland auf. Durch ihren Vater – er ist Golfprofi und bis heute ihr Trainer – lernt sie den Sport von Kindesbeinen an kennen. Neben ihr auf dem Foto Benedict Staben – ein
waschechter Hamburger Jung. Als Zehnjähriger beginnt er zu
golfen, bereits mit 17 Jahren gehört er der Nationalmannschaft
an. Zur Saison 2013 wechselt er ins Profilager. 2016 hat er sein
erstes Turnier auf der Pro Golf Tour gewonnen.
In Einzelinterviews haben wir mit ihnen über Golf gesprochen
– für beide ist der Sport Beruf wie Berufung. Freuen Sie sich
auf interessante Gespräche und auf Tipps von Norddeutschlands
besten Golfern.
Florentyna “Flory” Parker is one of Europe’s best female golf
players. The British citizen describes herself as “an English native
of Hamburg”, and grew up in northern Germany. Thanks to her
father – a professional golfer who now serves as his daughter’s
trainer – Parker developed a passion for the game from a young
age. Next to her in the photo is Benedict Staben, a Hamburg local
who started playing golf at the age of 10 and joined the national
team by 17. Staben first played professionally in the 2013 season;
in 2016, he won his first tournament in the Pro Golf Tour.

die „englische Hamburgerin“ von ihren sportlichen Anfängen in der Hansestadt und ihren
nächsten Karrierezielen. Außerdem verrät „Flory“ ihren besten Tipp, um auf dem Grün noch

Unterscheiden sich die Plätze in Norddeutschland von internationalen Plätzen?
Gerade bei den Plätzen in Hamburg ist
toll, dass sie nie weit weg von der City
liegen und man nicht – wie zum Beispiel
in Shanghai – erst einmal zwei Stunden
im Auto sitzt, bis man in der Stadt ist.
How are courses in northern Germany
different from international courses?
The courses in Hamburg have the benefit of not being too far from the city,
so you don’t have to sit in a car for two
hours to get there like you do in, say,
Shanghai.
Wie kamen Sie zum Golfen?
Mein Elternhaus liegt direkt am ersten
Loch vom Golfclub Gut Waldhof. Mein
Vater war dort 20 Jahre lang Trainer –
auch heute trainiert er mich noch. Klar,
dass ich recht früh mit dem Golfen angefangen habe. Im Alter von neun Jahren
habe ich meine Platzreife gemacht, mit
dreizehn spielte ich für die englische Nationalmannschaft. Seit meinem 3. Lebensjahr spiele ich auch Tennis. Die beiden
Sportarten ergänzen sich perfekt! Meine
Rückhand im Tennis ist wie mein Golfschlag, denn ich bin Linkshänderin, spiele
Tennis links, Golf aber rechts herum.
How did you become interested in golf?
I grew up right by the first hole at the
Gut Waldhof Golf Club. My father was
a coach there for 20 years and is still
my coach, so I started golfing pretty
early on. When I was nine years old, I
received my golfing certification and
then I played for the national team in
England when I was 13. I’ve also played
tennis since I was three. The two sports
complement each other really well. My
backhand in tennis is like my golf swing:
because I’m left-handed, I play tennis
with my left hand, but I golf with my
right.
Was fasziniert Sie am Golfspielen?
Jeder Tag ist anders! An einem Tag
spielt man sensationell, am nächsten
Tag klappt wiederum nichts. Es ist ein
wenig wie Achterbahnfahren: Es gibt
Höhen und Tiefen – und das ist ganz
normal. Golfspielen ist Kopfsache! Wobei ich mittlerweile, nach acht Jahren
als Professional, relativ entspannt bin.
Vor allem das Reisen bereitet mir große
Freude; zu Hause wird mir inzwischen
ziemlich schnell langweilig.
What do you like about golfing?
Every day is different. You can play a
perfect round one day and the next day
nothing seems to work out. It’s a bit like
riding a roller coaster: there are highs
and lows, and that’s completely normal.
Golf is a cerebral sport; although, after
eight years as a pro, I’m relatively relaxed. I especially like the travelling that
it entails – I get bored pretty quickly at
home.

own playing?

wichtig! Beginne ich mit einem DreiPutt oder starte ich richtig gut, zum
Beispiel mit einem Ein-Putt? Das ist bei
mir tatsächlich mitentscheidend für den
restlichen Verlauf der Runde.
Haben Sie einen besonders guten Putting-Tipp?
Es ist wichtig, dass man den Ball geradeaus rollen lassen kann. Dafür gibt es
eine gute Übung: Für einen Zwei-MeterPutt auf relativ gerader Strecke steckt
man auf drei viertel der Strecke links
und rechts vom Ball ein Tee. Dort muss
der Ball gerade durch. Die Stelle, von der
man puttet, sollte immer gleich sein.
Welcher ist Ihr Lieblingsschläger?
Der Driver. Damit bin ich auch auf der
Tour-Statistik ganz gut, sowohl im Hinblick auf Länge als auch Konstanz.
Welche Ziele verfolgen Sie?
Ich möchte unbedingt wieder ein Turnier auf der European Tour gewinnen. Zuletzt habe ich die Italien Open
gewonnen, 2014. Vieles hatte damals
gepasst: Es war mein 100. Turnier als
Proette, mein Großvater ist Italiener –
ich habe mich richtig wohl gefühlt. Am
letzten Tag habe ich dort einen Albatros
gespielt, eine Zwei auf einem PAR-5.
Eine Premiere! Es war der erste Albatros
auf der Ladies European Tour. Am Ende
habe ich mit einem Schlag Vorsprung gewonnen.
Sie spielen in der ganzen Welt Turniere.
Welcher ist der schönste Platz, auf dem
Sie jemals waren?
Mein Lieblingsplatz ist der Emirates
Majlis Course in Dubai. Das erste Mal
war ich vor 22 Jahren dort, im Urlaub.
Der Platz ist unglaublich, das Clubhaus
wird nachts beleuchtet und das Wetter
stimmt immer. Auch der Biltmore Coral
Gables in Miami gefällt mir besonders
gut.
Wenn Sie zurück in Hamburg sind: Wo
gehen Sie gern hin – zum Beispiel essen?
Regelmäßig gehe ich in Hamburg-Eppendorf im Restaurant Lentini (Anm.
www.labottegalentini.de) oder im Block
House (Anm. www.block-house.de) essen. Gern gehe ich auch ins East (Anm.
www.east-hamburg.de). Dort empfehle
ich Sushi und Schnitzel!
Wie bei „Flory“ ein Standard Drive
aussieht? Lang und gerade
What words best describe Flory’s standard drive?
Long and straight
me. Whether I start off with a three-putt
or really well with a single putt is decisive for the rest of my round.
Do you have any particularly good putting tips?
It’s important to be able to hit the ball in
a straight line. There is a good exercise
for that: for a relatively straight twometre putt, place two tees to the left and
right of where the ball should be about
three quarters of the way down. The
ball should go straight between the tees
and you should always putt from the
same place.
Do you have a favourite club?
The driver. My tour statistics with the
driver are pretty good, too, both in
terms of distance and consistency.
Future goals?
I would definitely like to win another
tournament on the European Tour. I
won the Italian Open back in 2014: Everything seemed to be aligned – it was
my 100th tournament as a pro, my
grandfather is Italian – it felt great. I
golfed an albatross on the last day, a
two on a par-five. It was brilliant! It was
the first albatross on the Ladies European Tour. I won by one shot.
You play at tournaments all around the
world. What is the best course you’ve
ever golfed?
My favourite golf course is the Emirates
Majlis Course in Dubai. I went there for
the first time 22 years ago when I was on
holiday. The course is unbelievable, the
clubhouse is lit up at night and the wea-

ther is always perfect. I also really like
Biltmore Coral Gables in Miami.
What are your favourite restaurants in
Hamburg?
I’m a regular at Lentini (www.labottegalentini.de) in Hamburg-Eppendorf
and love Block House (www.blockhouse.de). I also like to eat at East
(www.east-hamburg.de) – I recommend
the sushi and schnitzel!

Golf Professional Florentyna „Flory“ Parker wurde am 20. Juni 1989 in HenstedtUlzburg, Schleswig-Holstein, geboren. Sie
besitzt die britische Staatsbürgerschaft
und bezeichnet sich selbst als „englische
Hamburgerin“. Mit 19 Jahren qualifizierte
sie sich für die Ladies European Tour. Bereits ein Jahr später gewann Parker die
ABN AMRO Ladies Open in den Niederlanden. Auch ihr älterer Bruder Ben Parker
(Jahrgang 1987) ist Pro und spielt seit 2012

The 27-year-old was born in HenstedtUlzburg, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany,
but also holds British citizenship and considers herself an “English Hamburger”. Parker qualified for the Ladies European Tour

Nicht erst seit Benedict Staben im April 2016 sein erstes Turnier auf der Pro
Golf Tour gewonnen hat wird ihm zugetraut, in die internationale Top-Riege der
Profigolfer aufzusteigen. In „Golfregion Hamburg“ erzählt das Ausnahmetalent,
welcher Schläger der wichtigste für einen guten Score ist, was man auf der
Runde bedenkenlos essen kann und er verrät, welche seine Lieblingsplätze in
Hamburg sind.
Benedict Staben, was destined to rise through the ranks to international success
as a professional golfer long before he won his first tournament on the Pro Golf
Tour in April 2016. Here, the Hamburg native reveals his must-have clubs, what
he snacks on to keep going on the green and the city’s must-visit courses.
Was fasziniert Sie so sehr am Golfspiel,
dass Sie sich entschieden haben, Profi zu
werden?
Dieses Spiel wird nie langweilig – jeder Tag ist eine neue Herausforderung.
Wenn man gut spielt und selbstbewusst
über den Platz geht: Das ist das beste
Gefühl!
Welche Schläger spielen Sie derzeit?
Seit 2016 spiele ich Callaway. Die Hölzer
sind aus der Big Bertha Alpha 816 und
meine Eisen aus der Apex MB Pro Serie.
Mein Putter ist von Odyssey.
Können Sie sich noch an Ihr erstes Set
erinnern?
Mein erster Satz war ein US Kids Golf.
Er war ein Geschenk meiner Großmutter
zu meinem achten Geburtstag. Ich habe
ihn gleich in meinem damaligen Heimatclub, dem Hamburger LGC Hittfeld, auf
dem 17. Loch ausprobiert. Ich glaube,
dass ich die Schläger nachts auch mit ins
Bett genommen habe.
Haben Sie im Hamburger Land- und
Golf-Club Hittfeld eine Lieblingsbahn?
Die 17. Sieben Jahre, nachdem ich meine ersten eigenen Schläger ausprobiert
habe, durfte ich nach einem Umbau den
neuen Platz mit dem „Goldenen Ball“
eröffnen – ebenfalls auf dem 17. Loch,
What drew you to golfing and to go
pro?
The game never gets boring – there’s
a new challenge every day. Playing a
good round and walking confidently
across the course is the best feeling.
Which clubs are you currently using?
Recently, I've started playing only with
Callaway clubs. My woods are from the
Big Bertha Alpha 816 and my irons are
from the Apex MB Pro series. I use an
Odyssey putter.
Can you remember your first set of
clubs?
My first set was a US Kids Golf set: it
was a gift from my grandmother for
my eighth birthday. I went straight to
my local club at the time, Hamburger
LGC Hittfeld, and tried it out on the
17th hole. I think I even slept next to
the clubs that night.
Do you have a favourite hole at the
Hamburg Hittfeld Golf and Country
Club?
The 17th. I was able to open the newly renovated course with the “golden
ball” seven years after I tried out my
first clubs – that was at the 17th hole,
a par-four with a fantastic view. Two
hundred people watched as I hit the ball

In Hamburg muss man gut vom Tee sein – sonst lässt man zu
viele Schläge im Wald liegen. Aber generell ist ein guter Putter
das Wichtigste.

In Hamburg, you have to be good at the tee; otherwise, you’ll
lose too many balls in the woods. But, generally, a good putter is the most important thing.
Any tips for loosening up at the first tee?
Getting worked up is part of the game. Every professional golfer is nervous at tournaments. I always try to concentrate on

Wasser ist das beste Getränk. Bloß keinen Zucker, höchstens Traubenzucker

eine Kleinigkeit zu essen, denn der Körper muss ständig versorgt werden. Wer

könnte man am nächsten Tag natürlich
merken. Wobei – ein, zwei Gläser gehen
ja wohl immer …

How do you keep your energy levels up
on the course?
By drinking plenty of water. An apple, a
banana, nuts, trail mix and protein bars
are good, as well. It’s important not to
have any refined sugar; grape sugar at
the 16th hole, perhaps. The important
thing is to have a quick snack every
third hole so that your body is constantly nourished. Having a sandwich after
the ninth hole can ruin your score because your body is too busy digesting it.
Where do you go out to eat when you
don’t go straight to the clubhouse after
a round?
Caramba Especial in Hamburg's Portuguese Quarter near the harbour: I love
the area and the restaurant serves excellent fresh fish with southern flair and a
great atmosphere. Be warned, though: the
wine is delicious – you’ll feel it the next
day! But a glass or two is always OK…

Der 26-jährige Golfprofi begann mit zehn
Jahren, den Golfsport für sich zu entdecken. In seinem Heimatclub wurde er im Alter von 14 Jahren der jüngste Clubmeister
aller Zeiten. Sieben Jahre später gehörte er
der Nationalmannschaft an. 2013 wechselte er ins Profilager und bestreitet seitdem
ein wichtiges Turnier nach dem anderen.
Zuletzt konnte er in Tschechien sein erstes
Turnier auf der Pro Golf Tour gewinnen.
Es wäre nicht verwunderlich, wenn er mit

ebenso großen Disziplin bald zu den Top-20
Profis in Europa zählen würde.

Seven years later, Staben joined the national team and, in 2013, he went pro and
won one important tournament after the
other. He recently played in the Czech Republic and won his first-ever tournament
on the Pro Golf Tour. With his talent and
discipline, he’s destined to reach the top
20 in Europe.

Times are changing everywhere, not least in the golf world. Such change is most
evident in current debates surrounding image, membership trends and developing
a welcoming atmosphere. It is clear that these issues are important, if not essential,
to the survival of golf clubs and indeed the sport as a whole. Golf (together with its
clubs and courses) is a sport that is independently funded. This is both a blessing and
a curse: on one hand, the clubs are largely free to make their own decisions; however,
they receive very little outside support.
Auf Basis einmaliger Voraussetzungen entstand eine Achse zwischen dem LANS Medicum Hamburg und dem Lanserhof Tegernsee. Die Grundlage für gesunden Golfsport wird im LANS Medicum Hamburg durch fachärztliche Behandlung und Therapie
unter Führung von Dr. Philip Catalá-Lehnen, Chefarzt für Orthopädie und Sportmedizin, gelegt. Das Zentrum für Sport- und Regenerationsmedizin hat 2015 eine PGA Zertifizierung als offiziell
lizensierte Golf Klinik erhalten. Eine umfangreiche und individuelle Analyse des Bewegungsapparats bildet die Basis für einen
maßgeschneiderten Therapie- und Behandlungsplan. Ziel ist es,
dass der Patient, egal ob Profi- oder Hobbysportler, schnell wieder
fit und aktiv wird.
But with all these discussions regarding money, it’s important that we don’t lose
sight of the sport itself. Golf is partly organised and managed by associations that
depend to a large extent on member funding. With growing responsibility and an
increasingly uncertain financial situation, the state golf associations of SchleswigHolstein and Hamburg decided to work together to develop and promote the sport.
The associations spent 12 months identifying the areas where it would make sense
to join forces. They even came up with their own name: The HANSEATIC GOLF
UNION was established to advise and train athletes from both states, and to support them as they make their way towards becoming professional golfers. The most
famous player in the HANSEATIC EAGLES, as the union’s team is called, is Benedict Staben; he is the first pro golfer in Germany to emerge from such a talentdevelopment scheme. Having made a name for himself on the Pro Golf Tour, Staben
now has his sights set on reaching the top.

merken dies vor allem an den Diskussionen um Image, Mitgliederentwicklung
und Willkommenskultur. Dass dies für
das Überleben der Golfclubs und somit
auch der gesamten Sportart wichtige,
wenn nicht essenzielle Themen sind, ist
völlig klar. Dass der Golfsport mit seinen Golfanlagen eine der Sportarten ist,
die sich quasi komplett autark finanzieren muss, ist Fluch und Segen zugleich,
denn zum einen hat man große Entscheidungsfreiheit in dem was man tut, andererseits gibt es wenig Unterstützung von
außen.
In allen Diskussionen um das liebe Geld
darf man aber den Sport an sich keinesfalls vergessen. Mitverantwortlich
für die Organisation und Steuerung des
Sports sind die Verbände, die finanziell
hauptsächlich von ihren Mitgliedern abhängig sind. In diesem Spannungsfeld
von immer mehr zu bewältigenden Aufgaben und unsicheren finanziellen Zeiten, haben sich die Landesgolfverbände
aus Schleswig-Holstein und Hamburg
dazu entschieden, gemeinsam den Sport
weiterzuentwickeln. Über einen Zeitraum von 12 Monaten wurde beraten,
an welchen Schnittstellen eine Kooperation Sinn macht und wo nicht. Auch
ein eigener Name wurde gefunden. Die
HANSEATIC GOLF UNION wurde
ins Leben gerufen, in der Athleten aus
diesen beiden Bundesländern vereint betreut, trainiert und auf dem Weg zum
Leistungssport begleitet werden. Prominentester Spieler der HANSEATIC
EAGLES, wie sich das Team nennt, ist
Benedict Staben. Deutschlands erster
Werksprofi hat sich auf der Pro-GolfTour etabliert und bereitet sich für den
Sprung nach oben vor.
Ein speziell ausgebildetes Team am Lanserhof Tegernsee entwickelt anschließend gemeinsam mit Golf Coach Martin Bernitzky
einen individuellen Trainings- und ergänzenden Behandlungsplan. Diese werden auf Basis biomechanischer Grundsätze entwickelt, so dass der Heilungsprozess fortgesetzt wird und während
des Aufenthalts Defizite beseitigt und ausgleichen werden können.
Besonderheit ist die einmalige Infrastruktur: Trainingsort ist der
18-Loch Golfplatz mit Blick über den Tegernsee, der sich unmittelbar vor der Tür befindet. Außerdem können alle Annehmlichkeiten des Lanserhof vor Ort genutzt und in das Training involviert
werden (zum Bsp. Aqua- und Faszientraining).

Mitten im Herzen Schleswig-Holsteins gelegen, gilt Neumünster seit jeher als wahre Textilhochburg. Dieser Aspekt der Stadthistorie wird im Museum Tuch + Technik vorgestellt.
Hier erleben die Besucher auf fast 2.000 Quadratmetern die jahrtausendealte Geschichte
von der Verarbeitung der Wolle und der Herstellung von Tuchen. Jeden Freitag zeigt eine
Handwebmeisterin, wie ein Webstuhl funktioniert; an regelmäßigen Terminen werden
industrielle Textilmaschinen vorgeführt. Zudem bietet das Museum Ausstellungen zu verschiedenen künstlerischen Themen, von Textilkunst über Fotografie bis hin zu technikund gesellschaftshistorischen Inhalten.
Im Künstlerhaus Stadttöpferei sind regelmäßig zwei Künstler als ceramic artists in residence zu Gast, um nach ihrem Aufenthalt die geschaffenen Exponate zu präsentieren. Aber
auch bei der Entstehung ihrer Werke können Sie den Künstlern über die Schulter schauen.
Ein weiteres Highlight in Neumünster ist der Skulpturenpark der Herbert Gerisch-Stiftung. In einen zeitgemäßen Landschaftspark wurde eine beachtliche Sammlung von
Skulpturen integriert. Durch wechselnde Ausstellungen werden die Villa Wachholtz und
die Gerisch-Galerie immer wieder neu mit zeitgenössischer Kunst inszeniert.

Tuch + Technik, which documents the city’s millennia-old wool processing and cloth production past across nearly 2,000 square metres of exhibition space. Watch as a master weaver demonstrates the workings of a vintage loom, while industrial-sized shuttles weave rich
cloths that can later be purchased in the gift shop. Tuch + Technik has many other exhibitions

Hamburg Hittfeld’s motto is “mehr sein, als scheinen”, which,
loosely translated, means “more than meets the eye”. You can
see why the club, established back in 1957, feels the need to
stress this fact: Hittfeld is a fairy-tale par-71 parkland course,
surrounded by heathland and incorporating mixed forest, which
presents players with unique golfing challenges. Since its redesign in 2005, the club has received warranted praise, and its
players have accumulated a total of 26 German championship
and vice-championship titles. The club’s younger players have
also triumphed, earning the club an enviable reputation.

Wenn er als Head of Global Golf für Ecco nicht gerade die
Welt bereist, verbringt Michael Waack viel Zeit in Bredebro –
am Hauptsitz des dänischen Traditionsunternehmens. Geboren
wurde er in Hamburg, nach Ausbildung und Studium führt er
knapp zwanzig Jahre den familieneigenen Autohandel – spezialisiert auf Mercedes und Jaguar. Mit Golf beginnt er Mitte der
90er Jahre – vom ersten Moment an fängt er Feuer, verbringt
fortan gemeinsam mit seiner Frau Marina viel Zeit auf und
um den Golfplatz. Als er die beiden Gründer der Modemarke
Cross kennenlernt, startet langsam die berufliche Umorientierung. Waack setzt sich ins Auto, besucht die deutschen Golfclubs und begeistert die Pro Shops für die „schwedischen Regenanzüge mit Stretchanteil“. So trägt er maßgeblichen Anteil
am Aufstieg von Cross – gleichzeitig baut er sich ein einzigartiges Netzwerk quer durch Golfer-Deutschland auf. Ecco wird
auf ihn aufmerksam und bietet Waack die Aufgabe an, den
Vertrieb der Golfschuhe in Deutschland, Österreich und der
Schweiz aufzubauen. Waack nimmt an – erst jetzt gibt er seinen
Autohandel auf. In 2007 beruft ihn Ecco ins Headquarter. Und
auch hier schlägt das Geschick des sympathischen Hanseaten
ein: Unter ihm hat sich Ecco zu einer der innovativsten Marken
im Golfsegment entwickelt. Privat lebt der Manager mit seiner
Frau mittlerweile in Neustadt in Holstein an der Ostsee. Die
Leidenschaft fürs Golfen hat er sich bewahrt.

ness, which specialised in Mercedes and Jaguar, after receiving
training and his degree. He began golfing in the mid-1990s
and was hooked from the start. Now, he and his wife, Marina, head to the course whenever they can. A meeting with
the founders of the Swedish sportswear giants Cross caused
Waack’s professional ambitions to undergo a shift: he returned to Germany’s golf clubs extolling the virtues of “Swedish
rainwear with stretch material”, and the upward trajectory of
Cross sportswear began. During this time, thanks to his regular presence on the green, Waack was building up a unique
network of fellow golfers, which led Ecco to approach him
to develop the brand’s presence in Germany, Austria and
Switzerland. Waack accepted the offer, gave up his automotive business and, in 2007, relocated to Ecco’s headquarters
in Denmark. There, the congenial Hanseatic man’s skills soon
showed results: he helped Ecco become one of the most innovative brands in golf shoes. The top businessman maintains
a residence in Neustadt in Holstein at the Baltic Sea, and his
passion for golf keeps on growing.

Auf der 100 Hektar großen Golfanlage werden ein 18-LochMeisterschaftsplatz, ein öffentlicher 9-Loch-Platz und ein
6-Loch-Kurzplatz geboten. Für den 9-Loch-Platz benötigen
Gäste eine Platzreife, für den 18-Loch-Platz einen DGV-Ausweis. Auf dem Kurzplatz und den Trainingsanlagen können
sich auch die Anfänger austoben. Für sie gibt es ein umfangreiches Kursprogramm. Ob Schnupper- oder Einsteigerkurse,
Platzreife in der Gruppe oder individuelle, weiterführende Kurse und Einzelstunden: Bei der Golfakademie Gut Glinde können Anfänger an sieben Tagen in der Woche Golf lernen. Vor
dem Training können sich die Spieler im Pro Shop ausrüsten,
hinterher im Clubhaus verwöhnen lassen. Zur Abendunterhaltung geht es ins Herz der Großstadt – vom Golfplatz aus kann
man den Hamburger Fernsehturm sehen, denn Golf Gut Glinde liegt nur 20 Autominuten östlich der City.

highly qualified instructors are also available through the Gut
Glinde Academy, where trial and beginner courses as well as

Zahlen, Daten & Fakten zur Elbphilharmonie Hamburg
In der HafenCity beheimatet, stellt die Elbphilharmonie Hamburg ein
Sinnbild für die Tradition und Moderne der Stadt dar. Über dem ehemaligen Kaispeicher A, der Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts als Tee-, Tabak- und Kakaolager genutzt wurde, erhebt sich eine schillernde Glasfassade. Indem die Elbphilharmonie Hamburg musikalische Vielfalt,

Located in the HafenCity district, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg
symbolises the city’s combination of tradition and modernity. A gleaming glass facade soars above the former Kaispeicher A, a warehouse
used in the mid-twentieth century to store tea, tobacco and cocoa. In
combining a diverse musical programme, spectacular acoustics and
innovative architecture, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg is the city’s
new landmark. Its opening on 11 and 12 January 2017 will be celebrated with concerts by the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra under
the baton of its chief conductor, Thomas Hengelbrock.
The Elbphilarmonie will be a mecca for music lovers of all kinds.
Hamburg-based artists and orchestras along with international guest
orchestras and other renowned musicians will offer a multifaceted

The way to the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg’s Plaza itself is spectacular, with an 85-metre concave escalator taking visitors to a public viewing platform. The Plaza is roughly the size of the square in front of
Hamburg’s town hall. Located 37 metres above ground level, it offers
unique panoramic views of the port and the city. From 4 November
2016, the Plaza will be the place where Hamburg natives, sightseers,
restaurant goers and music fans from all over the world will meet.

In „Brian‘s Steak & Lobster“ verwöhnt Restaurantinhaber Brian Bojsen seine Gäste. Der
sympathische Däne setzte sich an seinem 18ten
Geburtstag in einen Zug nach Deutschland – bis
heute ist er geblieben. Während seiner Stationen
in verschiedenen Gastronomien in unterschiedlichen Positionen träumte er stets von seinem
eigenen Restaurant. Den Traum verwirklichte
er, als ihm Räumlichkeiten in der Hamburger
Innenstadt angeboten wurden. Brian Bojsen ist
ein Multitalent: Er fotografiert auf Profi-Niveau
und ein hervorragender Wellenreiter ist er auch.
Für seine Serie „Brian`s Way of Life“, in der er
Dänemark-Highlights präsentiert, steht er vor
der Kamera. Und so vielseitig wie er als Mensch
ist, ist er auch als Gastronom: „Brian`s Steak &
Lobster“ ist ein Erlebnisrestaurant – zum Wohlfühlen und lecker Essen.
Wie lebt es sich als Däne in Hamburg?
Ich finde es schön, hier zu sein. Die Mentalität
ist toll. Die Leute kommen auf einen zu und
freuen sich, traditionelle dänische Gerichte probieren zu können. Ich bin stolz darauf, Däne zu
sein. Aber Hamburg ist meine Lieblingsstadt.

Gibt es Parallelen zwischen den Deutschen und
den Dänen?
Bei uns geht es immer um Gemütlichkeit und
das Beisammensein. Dazu gehört vor allem, am
Tisch zu sitzen und zusammen zu essen. Das
gibt es in Deutschland zwar auch, aber die Dänen leben das noch ein bisschen extremer aus.

Wie würden Sie einen ausgehungerten Golfer
nach achtzehn Löchern verköstigen?
Wir haben Steaks zwischen 300 und 900
Gramm. Diese grillen wir bei sehr hohen Temperaturen in einem Holzkohleofen. Das wäre
genau das Richtige, um sich nach einem Tag im
Grünen satt zu essen. Dazu kämen Süßkartoffel-Pommes mit Trüffel-Mayonnaise.

birthday and never left. He worked in various
positions in many different eateries, all the time
dreaming of running his own restaurant. His
dream came true when he was offered premises
in Hamburg city centre. Bojsen is multitalented:
as well as having professional-level photography
skills, he is an outstanding surfer. He appears
before the camera in his series “Brian’s Way of
Life”, which explores some of Denmark’s mustsee highlights. His diversity as a person is reflected in his restaurant, Brian’s Steak & Lobster, a
place where you can relax over a delicious meal
in a friendly, fun atmosphere.
What is life like as a Dane in Hamburg?
I like living here. The mentality is fantastic. People come to you and are excited to try traditional Danish cuisine. I’m proud to be Danish, but
Hamburg is my favourite city.
Are there similarities between the Germans and
the Danes?
Feeling comfortable and cosy and spending time
together is very important to us Danes. Coming
together at a table and eating is a huge part of
this. Of course, that happens in Germany, too,
but the Danes practise this ethos a bit more intensively.
How would you feed a hungry golfer who has
just played 18 holes?
We have steaks weighing between 300 g and
900 g, which we barbecue at a very high temperature in a charcoal oven. That would be just the
thing to fill you up after a day spent outdoors.
On the side I’d serve sweet-potato chips with
truffle mayonnaise.

In der letzten Zeit war ich gleich zweimal
in meinem momentanen neuen Lieblingsrestaurant, dem Heimatjuwel. Ein eher
kleines Restaurant in Eimsbüttel, aber
das Essen, feine norddeutsche Küche, ist
oho. Wie schon der Name sagt, kommen
alle Produkte aus der lokalen Umgebung
und werden oft persönlich ausgesucht.
Der Koch und Inhaber Marcel Görke
hat sich zuvor im „Seven Seas“ auf dem
Süllberg mit seinem Team zwei Sterne erkocht. Und so köstlich schmeckt es auch.
Die kleine regionale Karte überrascht
durch besondere Geschmackserlebnisse –
wie mit der gebeizten Fjord Forelle oder
Kalbscarpaccio, Kabeljau mit Soljankasud oder Ochsenbacke mit Wiesenkräuterpüree, alles kombiniert mit weiteren
raffinierten Köstlichkeiten. Auch das
Dessert bestehend aus Luftschokolade,
Joghurt-Eis und frischen Erdbeeren beglückt und rundet dieses perfekte Dreigänge-Menü gelungen ab.
I’ve been to my new favourite restaurant,
Heimatjuwel, twice recently. Located in
the Eimsbüttel district, the restaurant
may be rather small, but the food – fine
northern German cuisine – is sensational.
As the name suggests (roughly translated,
“Heimatjuwel” means “home jewel”), all
produce is locally sourced and is often
personally selected. The chef and proprietor, Marcel Görke, previously worked in
the Seven Seas restaurant in the Süllberg
Hotel, where he and his team earned two
Michelin stars. His short regional menu
is outstanding, offering intriguing culinary treats such as pickled fjord trout,
veal carpaccio, cod in a solyanka broth
and ox cheek with meadow herb purée.
All of these dishes are served with equally
sophisticated accompaniments. Dessert,
comprising aerated chocolate, frozen
yoghurt and fresh strawberries, provides a delightful conclusion to this perfect

Und wieder zieht es mich nach Eimsbüttel, diesmal ins Biest, was seinen Namen
daher hat, dass es wohl sehr biestig sein
kann, ein Restaurant zu eröffnen. Gar
nicht biestig ist der schlichte Essraum mit
großer Fensterfront, der sofort mit seiner
Aufgeräumtheit mit weißen Papiertischdecken und schwarzen Stühlen erfreut.
Ein Bruch zu der gemütlichen Offenheit
sind die Buntstifte auf dem Tisch, die zu
kreativen Ergüssen während des köstlichen Abendessens aufrufen. Das Biest bietet mit regelmäßigen Wechseln der Karte
für jeden Geschmack etwas, ob Fisch oder
Fleisch, ob vegetarisch oder vegan – und
das ausschließlich mit regionalen Produkten der Jahreszeit. So ist zum Beispiel das
Carpaccio vom Rind zart, verfeinert wird
es durch Gruyere, gebratene Kräuterseitlinge und Avocadocreme. Auch das Boeuf
Stroganoff gefällt mir sehr gut. Und zum
Abschluss, bei einem lauwarmen Schokoküchlein, kann man nur dahinschmelzen.
I am lured back to Eimsbüttel to visit
Biest (“beast”), whose name refers to the
fact that opening a restaurant can be a beastly business. The restaurant’s simple dining room with its large front windows is
not a bit beastly, however, and the white
paper tablecloths and black chairs create
a cheery atmosphere. The colouring pencils on the tables offer a burst of vibrancy
amid this cosy openness, inviting diners
to explore their creativity over the course
of their delicious meals. Biest’s menu
changes regularly, offering something
for everyone, whether they want fish or
meat, vegetarian or vegan food. Furthermore, all the produce is seasonal and locally sourced. The tender beef carpaccio,
for example, is served with Gruyère, king
oyster mushrooms and avocado crème. I
love the beef stroganoff, too. And, finally,
for desert, I love the warm little chocolate
cake – simply exquisite.

champion Martin Kaymer
Wann hatten Sie das erste Mal einen Golfschläger in der Hand?
Ich war damals acht oder neun Jahre alt und habe meinen Vater und
Bruder auf eine öffentliche Driving Range in Mettmann begleitet.
Wie halten Sie sich fit?
Neben Golf mache ich noch verschiedene andere Sportarten, unter anderem Pilates. Ich gehe viel ins Fitnessstudio oder probiere neue Dinge
aus – zuletzt Taekwondo.
Wann waren Sie das letzte Mal in Hamburg, zum Golfen und abseits
des Platzes?
Ich war vor einigen Jahren in Falkenstein, ein anspruchsvoller und
landschaftlich sehr schöner Platz. Mein letzter Besuch in Hamburg war
im März – ein sehr schöner Tag mit einem ausgiebigen Spaziergang an
der Alster.
Was war Ihr schönster Golf-Moment ?
Da gibt es einige, aber wenn ich einen auswählen müsste, wäre es der
Putt zum Sieg beim Ryder Cup 2012 in Medinah.
When did you first pick up a golf club?
I was eight or nine years old: my father took my brother and me to a
driving range in Mettmann, near Düsseldorf.
What do you do to keep yourself fit for the game?
I do a lot of sports other than golf, including Pilates. I also go to the
gym and like trying out new things, the most recent being tae kwon
do.
When were you last in Hamburg, both for golfing and for pleasure?
I was at the Hamburg Falkenstein Golf Club a few years ago – it’s a
rigorous course set in the most bucolic, gorgeous setting. But my last
visit to Hamburg was in March. It was the perfec t day for a long
walk along the Alster.
Which club do you train with the most?
I’m currently working on my short game, so I’m using a lot of pitching, chipping and putting clubs.
What is your most memorable golfing moment?
There are a few. But if I had to choose one, I’d say it was my victory
putt at the 2012 Ryder Cup in Medinah.
