Every weeknight between 7 and 8 o’clock on CFCF-fm McGill students discussed cultural and political issues in French and English and read poetry and monologues, all accompanied by folk, classical, and jazz music programing. Content was largely focused on local communities as well as underrepresented or alternative viewpoints. In 1966, when Radio McGill began broadcasting closed-circuit on-campus, the message was the same, alternative news, spoken word and music programming. In 1982 Radio McGill CFRM received their Cable TV license and began broadcasts to the downtown montreal area. November 16th! 1987! CKUT Radio McGill is born at 90.3 on the FM dial. September 2007, CKUT drops the “Radio McGill” addendum, following negotiations with McGill university; CKUT 90.3 community/campus radio station as you know it is arrived! If you are a CKUT alumni, get in touch! We’d love to document your story, and archive our history! MANDATE To represent the marginal voice, the marginalized community.
