THE RGS COMMUNITY
Staff Well-Being
Staff Well-Being Committee (SWC) members are custodians of the school’s professional
culture.
To maintain that culture, SWC members:
(a) Promote bonding and camaraderie of staff members
(b) Encourage the adoption of a healthy lifestyle and good work-life balance amongst staff
members
(c) Facilitate on-going and open communication between staff members
This year, activities organised by the SWC include the Staff Family Day to the River Safari
and Staff Dinner. SWC also celebrates the birthdays of staff on a monthly basis, provides
fruit to staff members on a quarterly basis, liaises with vendors to provide quality goods
and services to staff members, and takes up the suggestions of staff where feasible.
Professional Development
The development of our staff is of pinnacle importance and continues to be a key strategy
in the school towards continuous excellence. Over and above the school-wide courses,
seminars and workshops organised by RGS, our staff actively seek professional learning
opportunities both local and international. Our RGS teachers also present papers and

The RGS Alumnae
History was made on 22 July 2014 when the RGS Alumnae was registered.
The Alumnae seeks to connect members with RGS Girls to inspire, enable and engage the
Daughters of a Better Age across the years as ambassadors for education and egalitarianism.
We also envision
• a community embodying the Rafflesian spirit and values that provides mentoring to
students, teachers and fellow members;
• a collective that actively shares experiences and works toward the betterment of society,
nation and self; and
• a kindred commitment to shaping and achieving the goals of RGS.
Founder’s Day report 2013/2014
To this end, Committee Members have to-date participated in Career Day Talks, operated
food stalls at the Homecoming Event and organised Golf Tournaments to raise funds for
the School.
The Committee of the RGS Alumnae plans to actively advance the Alumnae objectives
enshrined in the Constitution and look forward to welcoming all RGS girls to be members

CENGAL AWARD 2014
The Cengal Award is presented to an individual or organisation in recognition and
appreciation of the valued partnership and meaningful contribution to RGS through the
educational programmes and activities that nurture Daughter of a Better Age.
Cengal, a tall hardwood tree indigenous to South East Asia is very much a part of the
Singaporean heritage, having lent its name to the area of Changi. Cengal wood is valued
for its strength and has been selected as an appropriate symbol of the sustained support,
contribution, and collaboration these valued friends and partners have rendered to our
school and our students over the years.
Since its inception in 2011, a total of two individuals and five organisations have received
the award. This year, two more organisations are being recognised for their partnerships
with RGS.
Organisation Award: TWO
Ngee Ann Secondary School
Address: 1 Tampines Street 32, Singapore 529283
Ngee Ann Secondary School has been co-organising the Singapore Mathematical Modelling
Forum and Challenge (SMMFC) since 2011. Teachers from both schools collaborated to
plan and design activities and resources related to MM with the objective of sharing the
value of MM in solving authentic problems with students and teachers from all schools in
Singapore. As this is a new area in Mathematics, RGS is heartened by NASS’ commitment
to SMMFC and the growing interest in MM in Singapore schools and schools in Australia,
Hong Kong, Indonesia and Taiwan.
Texas Instruments Singapore (Private) Limited
Address: 83 Clemenceau Ave, #07-05 Shell House, UE Square 239920
Like Ngee Ann Secondary School, TI has been partnering RGS and NASS since the
inception of Singapore Mathematical Modelling Forum and Challenge (SMMFC) to
promote Mathematical Modelling to all schools. TI provided hand-held Graphing
Calculators and the training on how to use probes and hand-held devices to solve realworld problems. In addition, TI also provided sponsorship and on site expertise to aid
the teacher organisers on the day of the challenge and in the smooth running of the
programme. TI’s commitment to SMMFC demonstrates how much they value their role
in educating the young, and their partnership with RGS and NASS.
