Hamburg is an exciting destination for lesbian and gay tourists because this city on the banks of the Alster and Elbe, featuring the Michel and the Reeperbahn, is dominated by a liberal spirit that links tradition with modernity. This brochure features the perfect day in Hamburg – although one day is of course nowhere near enough time to do this fantastic city justice. If you are able, take a little more time to enjoy the green city with its cutting-edge architecture, lively scene, diverse cultural attractions and endless shopping opportunities. St. Georg is of particular interest, which has come to enjoy its reputation as Hamburg’s gay village. This part of town, located near the central station and within a stone’s throw of the Alster, represents the beauty and open attitude of the whole city. The heart of St. Georg is the street called Lange Reihe – popular for shopping, going for a stroll or visiting a bar or two. Enjoy your perfect day in Hamburg! 3 CATS & Photo credits: © Ulrike Schmidt ”The ‘Seeteufel’ offers the best atmosphere to relax at the end of a long day.“ Adresses: Tide Rothestr. 53, Ottensen Mon–Fri 8 a.m.–6 p.m., Sat 10 a.m.–6 p.m. druck dealer Marktstr. 102, St. Pauli Mon 2–7 p.m., Tues–Fri 12–7 p.m., Sat 12–4 p.m. Kochkontor Karolinenstr. 27, St. Pauli Mon–Fri 10 a.m.–7 p.m., Sat 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Götterschnitt Karpfangerstr. 22, Neustadt Tues–Fri 10 a.m.–8 p.m., Sat 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Paola Ottenser Hauptstr. 59, Ottensen Mon–Fri 9 a.m.–7 p.m., Sat 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Zum Seeteufel Elbchaussee 4, Ottensen Tues–Sat 8 p.m. until close Nele Maack, Co-owner of the druck dealer gallery and printers 4 Photo credits: © Oliver Fantitsch In the morning, I go to Tide Feinkost und Treibgut, where you can enjoy coffee from the Speicherstadt warehouses and fantastic panini. Then I head to the Karoviertel quarter to my shop, druck dealer. There’s always something to do, whether it’s organising the next exhibition or finishing a few one-off designs in our screen printing workshop. For lunch, I head to Kochkontor, where I can sit and leaf through some cookery books to get some inspiration for my next meal. Then I head down to the Götterschnitt salon by the port where Anne and Christiane will be cutting my hair in a lovely, relaxed atmosphere. I then take the ferry downstream to the Dockland. Then I head inland and uphill towards Ottensen, where I buy a few tasty treats for dinner from Paola. Later on, I pay a visit to Seeteufel. This small, traditional Hamburg bar owned by Evi is packed with artists, sailors and stuffed puffer fish. It’s the perfect way to relax and see out the day. These areas feature streets filled with little shops, such as trendy boutiques and tiny studio shops. If you prefer a more low-key, friendly and alternative style, head to the winding streets of Ottensen. Eppendorf and Winterhude feature more in the way of exquisite, fashionable and luxury shops, as does the Lange Reihe in St. Georg. But the biggest selection of all is in the centre of Hamburg – on the city’s famous Mönckebergstraße, beautiful Jungfernstieg and in the covered arcades of the traditional HanseViertel, or the Europa Passage shopping centre.
