Subimods Installation Guide Series Installing the Hella Supertone Horn Kit with Subimods Wiring Harness and Mounting Bracket 2008-‐2013 WRX/STI Introduction: In this guide we will illustrate how to install the Hella Supertone Horn Kit with our Subimods made Wiring Harness and Mounting Bracket on the 2008-‐2013 WRX/STI chassis. Expect this installation to take 1 hour. Tools: Below are the tools recommended for installation 3/8 in Ratchet 10mm Socket 12mm Socket 14mm Socket Flat blade screwdriver Philips head screwdriver Door panel tool (optional) 1 Procedure: 1. Pop your hood and start by familiarizing yourself with the locations of the plastic clips that affix the bumper to the vehicle. 2. Remove the four push clips that are shown below. 3. Proceed to the driver’s side of the bumper and begin to remove the 4 clips that hold the fender lining to the bumper. Proceed with caution when removing these 4 clips due to fact they are more susceptible to breaking due to their contact with the elements. 4. Repeat step 3 on the passenger side taking the same caution as before. 2 5. Proceed to the under side of the bumper, there will be 6 clips that need to be removed, as before proceed with caution due to the fact these clips can be very weak. 3 4 6. At this point you will have removed all the physical clips holding the bumper to the vehicle. Now on the corners of the bumper carefully pull away from the vehicle. 7. Once the bumper has been removed from the vehicle you will need to disconnect the factory fog lights 8. Once the fog lights have been disconnected you can place the bumper in a safe location until we have completed the horn install. 9. Locate the bolt that affixes the stock horn to the center beam and remove it. 10. Once the bolt has been removed disconnect the wire leading from the stock horn to the wiring on the chassis of the vehicle. 5 11. Locate the center bolt and remove it, this will be the mounting point for the center of our Subimods Hell Horn Bracket. 12. Once you have removed the bolt above grab your horns that we mounted to the bracket in “Guide A” and attach it to the center beam using the bolt removed in the previous step (Additional Guide Links are located on the last page) Note: Please be sure to confirm the “Notch” of the bracket is to the left of the center beam to allow for the hood latch to clear. (Picture Below) 6 13. Once you have mounted the horns like so you can proceed to installation of the Subimods Wiring Harness. 14. Before installation please familiarize yourself with the information about the Subimods Hella Horn Wiring Harness located in “Guide B” (Additional Guide Links are located on the last page) 15. To begin locate the pins on the back of the Hella Horns; you may have noticed that the horns themselves have two different colored pin connectors. Find the 4 female spade connectors on your Subimods Wiring Harness and attach the red connector to the pin shown below. 16. When you have attached all four connectors you should have a setup that looks similar to this. (Pictured Below) 7 17. The next connection will be the trigger wire, locate the female end of the stock horn wire we disconnected in Step 10. Input your male spade connector from the Subimods Wiring Harness into the connector. 18. The next step is very important to prolonging the life of your relay, as many of you know may know water and electricity aren’t the best combination so the better you tuck the relay away the longer you can expect it to last. We have found that mounting the relay directly to the crash beam provides the best protection from the elements. We have included pictures that illustrate the correct way to mount the relay and the incorrect way below. 8 Correct! Continued: As you can see the relay is tucked to the bumper beam with a pair of large wire ties (Not Included) there is no slack lying below the bumper beam. This is our recommend way of installation. 9 No! Continued: We have found that installing the setup like this will lead to premature weathering of the harness and subsequent issues. Take the time and tuck the wires correctly the first time! 10 19. Once you have tucked the relay socket properly you can run the power/ground wire to the battery. Pictured below is the route we recommend taking with the power/ground wire. Continued. 11 20. Now that you have run the power/ground wire to the battery terminals you can remove the nut on the ground wire pictured below using a 10mm socket or wrench. 12 21. Affix our black ground wire to the ground terminal and retighten nut. 22. Once you have completed those steps go on the fused power wire, remove the 12mm nut with either your socket or wrench and connect the fused red wire to the battery terminal. 13 23. Once completed you should have a setup that looks very similar to ours. We route the power/ground wire this way mainly for the fact it keeps the engine bay very clean. No one wants to have a bunch of wires exposed throughout the engine bay. 24. The next step is to test everything is working properly. So hit that horn button! If everything is in working order then proceed to the next step. (After you have your hearing back of course!) 14 25. Now it is time to put that bumper back in place, repeat steps 2 through 8 in reverse order to secure the bumper back in place! 26. Once you have the bumper in place and secured there is one little bit of extra wire tucking we recommend to have that “Stealth” look. There could be some extra wire floating around on the lower half of the bumper; Use a standard size wire tie to secure any loose wire to the center beam. 27. The final step! Stand back and admire your work. 15 Additional Support If you have any questions during or after the installation process please don’t hesitate to contact us, our friendly knowledgeable sales staff will be happy to answer any and all questions!
