While her most cherished roles were as a mother and grandmother, she also enjoyed teaching special needs children, sports, music, the arts, and volunteering. Over the course of his nearly 89 years, CHARLES -- or CHARLIE or Pop-Pop -- lived a full life of remarkable variety and love. He was raised by his revered grandfather, CHAIM, in South Philadelphia, served in the Pacific for the Army in World War II, enrolled in the Wharton School on the GI Bill, worked as an accountant and rose to the position of CFO in his company, and eventually retired to give back to the community and spend time with his children and grandchildren. He was married twice, first to SYLVIA and then to LEDA, loving and caring for them both in their last years with a lifeaffirming sense of loyalty and tenderness. GOLDBERG devoted extensive time and effort to Deborah Heart and Lung Center, serving as head of the Cardiology Department for 26 years; Director Emeritus for 15 years, and Vice-President of Medical Affairs for 8 years. GOLDBERG is the author of more than 150 medical publications and co-author of five books in the field of diseases of the heart and cardiac catheterization, published in multiple languages throughout the world. Among his numerous appointments, DR. GOLDBERG has served as President of the American Heart Association Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter, and the Pennsylvania Affiliate. He was on the Board of Trustees of the American Heart Association.
