 Development Director: Central Park School for Children Job Description Central Park School for Children (CPSC) is a public charter school in Durham, North Carolina, currently serving 300 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. The school recently decided to expand to serve students in the middle grades, making it a K‐8 school by 2016. It also recently decided to diversify its student body introducing a weighted lottery that will allow the school to achieve a balance of income levels, with 40% of the student body from low‐income families by 2016‐17. For more information about the school, please visit our website at www.cpscnc.org We seek a Development Director to develop and execute a fundraising plan to support the middle school expansion and, to advise and assist in ongoing fundraising efforts to support the entire K‐8 school. This position is expected to start September 1, 2013. Our current goal for the middle school expansion is to raise at least $170,000 by March 2014 and an additional $500,000 by March 2016. The Development Director is a new full‐time position, and it will report to the CPSC Director. Working in collaboration with the CPSC board of directors, school leadership team, CPSC middle school steering committee and parent community, the Development Director will be responsible for developing a comprehensive fundraising plan, including articulating strategies and setting targets for funds to be raised from school families, special events, local business, private philanthropists, institutional partners, and private, federal and foundation grants. The Development Director will work to develop and maintain relationships with existing and new funders that further CPSC goals. In managing the development operation, the Director will be responsible for donor tracking, maintaining accounts of funds raised relative to targets, regular reporting to the school about progress relative to goals, and ongoing adjustment of strategies as needed to attain goals. The Director will be dynamic, creative, collaborative, and able to share and communicate the vision of the CPSC to potential funders and build lasting relationships with those interested in supporting our goals. S/he is a fantastic writer, has outstanding interpersonal skills, and is deeply committed to CPSC. This is a full‐time position located in Durham, NC. Responsibilities  Provide leadership, management, and implementation of all fundraising efforts  Develop a comprehensive fundraising plan, including strategies, goals, and timelines  Implement the fundraising plan to achieve fundraising goals  Responsible for data entry, tracking, correspondence, and follow‐up for all donor gifts  Monitor progress toward fundraising goals, provide regular progress reports, and adjust strategies as needed to achieve goals  Identify, cultivate, and solicit a portfolio of donors, including school families (current and alumni), local business, private philanthropists, and institutional partners  Maintain donor relations through visits, calls, and written correspondence  Plan and implement special fundraising events  Monitor Federal, State and foundation grant opportunities, and write grant proposals  Develop written and other communications materials to support fundraising efforts  Produce periodic fundraising reports for internal and external stakeholders 
Cultivate and maintain relationships with the CPSC board of directors, staff, and families Collaborate with and coordinate volunteers from CPSC families, staff, and board who are interested in assisting with fundraising efforts 
Qualifications 
Minimum of 5 years of development/fundraising experience with a proven track record 
Experience fundraising for schools (Charter‐school experience even better), both for capital and operating support 
Experience and relationships with potential donors in the Durham community 
Solid public speaking skills; smart and compelling 
Great interpersonal skills; can build relationships 
Excellent writing skills; can articulate a clear compelling message to a variety of audiences 
Ability to multi‐task and manage complex projects; excellent organizational skills 
Ability to execute; great track record of raising funds 
Willing to work flexible schedule with occasional long days and evening hours 
Entrepreneurial zeal, creativity and sense of humor 
Skilled collaborator and team player 
Successful grant writing experience 
