Bessie Marie Tate
Webb Horton
Bessie Marie Tate Webb Horton, 96, of Bentonville, formerly
of Monticello, passed away at her
home April 15, 2014.
She was born Jan. 27, 1918,
in Ashley County near Fountain
Hill.
She was the daughter of John
Henry Tate and Sallie Ann Elizabeth Turnbow Tate, who preceded
her in death. She was also preceded in death by three brothers,
William Frank, John Wilburn and
Emory Cleve Tate; her young son,
Dennis Martin Webb; her first
husband, Ray Webb; her second
husband, Jim Horton; a son-inlaw, Paul Carter; and a grandsonin-law, Malcolm Howell.
She is survived by her daughter,
Anna Koonce and husband, Kelly;
daughter, June Carter; six grandchildren, Karen Mills and her husband, Jeff, Max Koonce and wife,
Rebecca, Marty Koonce and wife,
Louise, Steve Carter and wife,
Michelle, Stephanie Howell, and
Sam Carter and wife, Heather; 15
great-grandchildren, Ross Carter
and wife, Rachel, Rachel Kellum
and husband, Ben, Robyn Carter, Jonathan Koonce, Caroline
Koonce, Davis Mills, Justin Mills,
Tucker Koonce, Taylor Koonce,
Tanner Koonce, Trevor Koonce,
Katherine Howell, Emma Howell,
Avery Carter and Logan Carter;
three great-great-grandchildren,
Michael, John Paul and Madeline
June Carter; as well as numerous
nephews and nieces and other extended family members, friends,
caregivers; and her dog, Sydney.
As a young girl, she developed
a love for gospel music, growing
up spending time with her father
traveling by wagon to Sunday afternoon gospel singings and singing schools that her father taught.
During this time, she also developed a passion for gardening from
her mother, ultimately becoming a
charter member of the Southside
Home Demonstration Club.
She and Ray began their married life living with her mother-in-law, Marietta Burks Webb,
and grandmother-in-law, Melinda
Jane Camp Burks. When her oldest daughter, Anna, was 2, they
moved to their first home, the
Bowser Road farm, where she
lived until moving to Bentonville in 1992. Many great memories were developed and cultivated at the Bowser Road farm
for her children as they grew up
and grandchildren, who all spent
many summers with her there.
While in Monticello, she was a
member of the Monticello Church
of Christ, where her husband,
Ray, served many years as a deacon and elder of the congregation.
During this time, she exhibited
her role as a great hostess, showing hospitality to everyone with
her willingness to “always set another plate or two” for guests to
share a meal with her family.
While in Monticello, she began
her working career at the Drew
County ASCS office. She also
worked for a period of time at the
College Heights Post Office and
ultimately moved to managing the

Arkansas State Revenue Office in
Monticello, where she continued
to work until retirement. To this
day, you will find many families
in Monticello that knew her because of her involvement in this
office and the kindness and support she showed them while there.
In 1992, she moved to Bentonville, to be closer to her daughter,
June, and her husband, Paul, as
well as a number of her grandchildren. Upon moving to Bentonville, she became a member of
the Bentonville Church of Christ,
where she continued to play an
active role. She loved being involved in family celebrations,
vacations and trips, enjoying time
spent outdoors with family and
friends. One very special trip was
when she was part of the Five
Women Will Travel Inc., which
included her two daughters and
two granddaughters on a fall tour
of New England. She likewise enjoyed many trips, as far away as
Europe with her Monticello travel
group. She was an avid bridge and
dominoes player, beginning early
in her marriage with her motherin-law and continuing with her
family, friends and caregivers up
to the last few days.
She was a loving Christian
woman who always reached out to
others with a helping hand or word
of encouragement. Her Christian
faith was evident in all of her actions, words and commitment to
her family and friends. She set a
great example of what it meant to
love those around her and that she
came in contact with no matter
the circumstances through tough
times and good times.
Funeral services were held at
10 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2014, at
the Bentonville Church of Christ.
Local arrangements were under
the care of Callison-Lough Funeral Home of Bentonville.
On Saturday, April 19, 2014,
there was a visitation at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home in
Monticello followed by a graveside service at 11 a.m. in the
Union Ridge Cemetery on Midway Route.

Bettie Hoover
Bettie Hoover, 75, of Woodlawn,
went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 21, 2014, in Little Rock.
She
was
born
August
28, 1939, in
Monticello, a
daughter of the
late Vance Carter and Lillie
Tucker Carter.
She was a faithful member of Mt. Olivet United
Methodist Church. She was a respected teacher at the Woodlawn
School District for 40 years and
was passionate about providing
a quality education to all her students. She was also member of the
Retired Teachers Association. She
loved her family and friends dearly.
Mrs. Hoover is survived by her
husband James “Ronnie” Hoover,

done for us during the time of Larry’s illness and death. We thank you
for the food, cards, visits, phone calls, flowers, and especially for the
prayers. Thank you for showing such love for Larry and the rest of the

Mary Sue Daniel
Carrington
Mary Sue Daniel Carrington, 92,
a longtime resident of White Hall,
passed away on April 19, 2014,
after a lengthy
illness, at home
with her family in Rowlett,
Texas.
She was born
January
01,
1922, in Bluffton (Yell County) to the late
Ben E. and Ada Aikman Daniel.
Sue was a member of First Baptist
Church of White Hall and a 50-year
member of Union #40 of the Order
of Eastern Star.
Sue was employed by Safeway
Stores at the age of 21 and worked
for them for 25 years before retiring. After retiring from Safeway,
she worked for White Hall Realty
and then Century 21 for 22 years
retiring in 1995. She also worked
part-time for her late husband Curt
at Curt’s Auto Parts of White Hall
assisting with the bookkeeping.
Sue was always on the go; you
would most likely find her raking
leaves and tending her yard. If she
wasn’t doing that she was baking
pies and cakes for her neighbors
and friends who couldn’t get out or
had done her a good deed. She also
helped care for many of her family
and friends who were ill or in the
hospital.
She was preceded in death by her
husband of 52 years, Curtis “Curt”
Arthur Carrington; five brothers, Ben, Tom, Edgar, Luther and
Glenn Daniel; and five sisters, Bernice Chambers, Zeraldine Gladden,
Martha Milligan, Murline Jenkins,
and Ada Ruth Curry.
Survivors include one son,
Alan Carrington and wife, Trudy,
of Rowlett, Texas; one daughter,
Thomasena Williams and husband,
Tommy, of Warren; a sister, Juanita
Carter, of Benton; a brother Billy
Pat Daniel and wife, Gloria, of Dumas; four grandchildren, Scott Williams and wife, Lisa, Jeannie Rook
and husband, Tim, all of Warren,
Amanda Curtis and, husband, Clifford, of Tinsman, and Justin Carrington, of Rowlett, Texas; a nephew, Dale Milligan, whom she and
her late husband raised; six great
grandchildren; one great-great
grandchild; and a host of nieces,
nephews and friends.
Funeral services, under the direction of Ralph Robinson & Son, will
be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April
24, 2014, at First Baptist Church of
White Hall with Reverend Denny
Daniel and his brother Chet Daniel
officiating, assisted by Pastor Paul
Williams. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers
will be her nephews, Rick Jenkins,
Randy Jenkins, Dan Gladden,
Wayne Carter, Brad Curry, Michael
Daniel, and Bobby Jo Daniel.

Jo Ann Jones Vest, 74, of Ponchatoula, La., died Thursday, April
17, 2014, at Baptist Healthcare
Medical Center in Little Rock.
She was born August 24, 1939 in
Monticello, the daughter of the late
Hubert Jones and Bertha “Bertie”
Roberts Jones.
She was a retired secretary for
Red House Baptist Church in Richmond, Ky., a homemaker and a
member of Trinity Baptist Church
in Hammond, La. She was a 1957
graduate of Drew Central High
School and was also preceded in
death by a brother-in-law, Lee Gibson.
Survivors include her husband of
47 years, Donald Vest, of Ponchatoula, La.; one son, Kevin Vest, of
Hammond, La.; one granddaughter, Brittany Vest, of San Marcos,
Texas; one grandson, Kevin Wayne
Vest II, of Mt. Vernon, Ky.; one sister, Phyllis Jones Gibson, of Selma;
and numerous nieces, nephews,
many cousins and friends.

Rose Ferguson; one brother, Ira

Worbington.

Rev. Mike Poweill and Rev. Hearron officiating. Burial followed
in Campground Cemetery. Active

Ivy, age 86, of Meridian, Miss.,

He served in the U.S. Navy and
was a veteran of WWII. Mr. Ivy
retired after 30 years with International Paper Company. He was an
active member, deacon, and Sunday school teacher at First Assembly of God Church in Pine Bluff.
Survivors include sons, Michael

and Terry D. Ivy and wife, Sabina,
of Meridian; grandchildren, Lisa,

James Michael Harmon, 68, of

1945, in Monticello to the late
Norris Harmon
and Ollie Mae
Herring Baker. He was a longtime member
of Little Rock Church, where he
was very involved in the ministries Food for the Hungry and
Home Away From Home, and
was a House Church Leader. He
retired after 35 years of service to
the State of Arkansas. He enjoyed
going to Big Cedar in Branson,
teaching others how to live healthier lives and sharing his faith.
Mike is survived by his wife,
Gina (Monroe) Harmon, of Little
Rock; daughter, Kimberly Holt
(Jon), of Genry; stepchildren,
Lindsey Eason (Chad), of Fleming Island, Fla., and Jacob Davison (Kate), of Portland, Ore.;
siblings, Marty Baker (Sandra), of
Monticello, Dean Harmon (Nanda), of Albuquerque, N.M., Bob
Harmon of Paige, Texas, Ronnie
Harmon (Debbie), of Paige, Texas, and Becky Harmon, of Calif.;
