Being a Parrot Head does not only mean you are a
Buffett Fan but that you love to support your favorite
charities. During our monthly Phlockings we raise
money by selling raffle tickets for some cool prizes or
hold a 50/50 ( who doesn’t like a little hard cash! ) to
raise money for our local charities. The February
Phlocking saw over $230 raised and donated to the
Broward Kids in Distress and the March Phlocking
we donated to the Alzheimer's Assoc.
I wanted to share a story with you from Bob Noonan, past President and
Charity Director of the Chicago Parrot HeadsI had an opportunity to attend the Leadership Summit 2014 for Alzheimer Association
in New Orleans this month. I was there representing the board of the Greater Illinois
Chapter but as others found out I was also representing the Parrot Heads. Many of
the attendees thanked us Parrot Heads nationwide for doing Walks all over the
country. Thank you all walkers and supporters!!!!!!
This is just one story out of thousands around the country of Parrot Heads being recognized and appreciated for their philanthropy! Don’t forget our big
fundraiser for the American Lung Association is coming up- the Water Taxi
Pub Crawl so please join us as we Party with a Purpose!

It’s election time again! The only thing that keeps any club afloat, especially one as great as ours, is the members
that volunteer their time and energy to get things done.
This year we are accepting nominations for President, Secretary, and Event Director. The term runs for two years. I
have included a copy of the position descriptions below. Al Newman is our current secretary and Amy Breslow
serves as Event Director. Karolyn Holmes, our current president, has served our club for the past six years
and has decided not to run again this year. We are looking for someone who can continue the same great
leadership that Karolyn has provided. Now is your chance. President of any club looks great on a resume!
If you would like to run for one of these positions, or you can think of someone that you feel would serve our club
well in either of these positions, let me know! We are accepting nominations until April 30th.
Please forward your intent to run or the name of the person you would like to nominate to my attention by April
30th. The person running or you are nominating must be an active member of the club....DUH!! I just want to make
sure it was clear!
Our club does not run itself, now is your chance to become more involved for what I claim is the friendliest PH club in
the country!

Jimmy got a Manatee named for him: Margarito!
Margarito is a male manatee, first identified at Blue Spring State Park on
November 24, 1984. He is the son of Lily, another manatee in Save the Manatee Club's (SMC) Adopt-A-Manatee program. Margarito is named in honor of the
hit song "Margaritaville" by SMC CoFounder Jimmy Buffett. The original plan
was to name a female calf Margarita, but
there were only three male calves at Blue
Spring that year, so Margarita became
Margarito.

By Buffalo Bob Colmerauer
After introducing Linda Ball as a newbie Parrot Head in our last Parrot Head Profile I decided we
will fill you in on the life of a Grand Ol Parrot Head who has been in search of the lost shaker of salt for a
number of years.
My wife Linda and I attended our first meeting of the Barefoot Children in 2008 and we had the
pleasure of sitting with Olga DiLenge and her husband Jim. Olga was “chatty” right from the start and
proclaimed that we would be best friends forever after the evening was over. As we attended other meetings as the months went by I realized that Olga is best friends with pretty much every person she encounters! She is the Barefoot Children PH Club social butterfly.
I called to interview Olga last night to find she was spending a long weekend in Daytona Beach
with friends from up north. Due to a bad cell phone connection and a little alcohol interference we postponed our interview until this morning, with a much better “connection.”
Olga said she has always enjoyed the music of Jimmy but officially became a Parrot Head in 1999
when she and husband Jim happened to be in Key West during the Meeting of the Minds, the annual
Parrot Head Convention. Olga and Jim quickly joined their local Parrot Head Club in Chicago so they
would be able to attend MOTM and enjoy all of the events available to official Parrot Heads in Paradise
club members. They attended MOTM for ten years straight, then missed a few years but, (con’t pg. 9)

Yahoo! Spring is here and summer is following along closely. Truthfully, I think our “winter” was quite mild. Our
snow fall was none, but don’t laugh, I have seen snow in Fort Lauderdale. Heard that there is at least one region up
north that broke a 100 year record of snow fall.
Laurie and I went with Judy Kesner Reyes and several people from West Palm and Naples to board a big boat that
set sail for the parts unknown. The trip was dubbed the Pirate Trop Rock Voyage. We had Calypso Nuts, Corbitt
Brothers, Homemade Wine, John Friday, Mike Mangum and Brad Brewer. They played in the late evening on the
ship! Laurie and I had the pleasure of listening and dancing to Calypso Nuts and Brad Brewer playing at Margaritaville in Grand Cayman. The Margaritaville had a water slide and the water temperature for February was great. Of
course I got stuck about half way down!
Upon arriving at Roatan, we found they have different customs than we do here in the United States. One is not permitted to dance on the floor. Ah, well I found a cool high top table to dance on and then proceeded to move to the
bar. Life is good.
John Friday is from the west coast. Laurie and I have had the pleasure of listening to John Friday playing at Whiskey Joe’s down here in Miami on Sundays. Captain Josh is still playing once a month at the Pilot House, so Laurie
and I have been heading down there when possible. Check Captain Josh’s website for the days he’s there.
A favorite of mine is Howard Livingston. Laurie and I had a relaxing trip down to Marathon for the Seafood Fest,
Howard Livingston, and Mile Marker 24. The bands were playing!
We have a lot of cool events coming up and hopefully everyone can attend at some of them. The Relay for Life and a club picnic. Tortuga
Music Festival is happening and a lot of great bands going to be playing.
Jimmy Buffet is playing in Tampa and then sliding over to the east coast
to play in West Palm.
The most important date is the Water Taxi Pub crawl, May 16-18. Hopefully you were not sleeping and forgot to get your pass for a great weekend. This is going to be one great time with music planned, pubs and
evening events.
Then a phun event for me is the 7th Annual Meet Me in the Keys. This
happens June 5-8 in Key West. Howard Livingston and Mile Marker 24
will be entertaining us, but also Jim Pappas, John Patti, and John Frenzi, plus several others. Check the website
MMITK 2014.
I hope this ¼ turn around the sun for you is a phun one.

SEEING THE KEYS
By Manatee Bill
On your annual trek to MoTM, flying down A1A, have you ever wondered what adventure
lies down the many side roads in the Keys? So did I, but checking the tiny Keys insert on
the Florida map told me next to nothing.
So, I went in search of a detailed chart of my favorite drive. Good news. I found a huge
36x48 30,000:1 map of the entire Keys. If you aren't familiar with charts, this size is almost the scale of DoD tactical charts, the type the military uses to bomb bad guys. In other words -- Key West is the size of a hubcap and the other major keys are two feet long
with all the backroad views you didn't know existed.
These charts are surprizingly affordable so I bought four. In the Air Force we don't fold
charts. We cut them up into target areas, glue them to poster board and stow the boards
until we need them. As we travel down A1A, we pull out the applicable easy-to-handle
board with all the neat places in that stretch.
Here is my favorite. In between MM22 and 21, the road makes a sweeping turn to the left. Just before the turn
lies Cudjoe Key State Road (Blimp Rd) on the right. This straight-as-an-arrow path takes you to the home of
Fat Albert and Chubby Checker, the two drug interdiction blimps. Seeing them up close is worth the drive but
the real treasure lies just beyond the gate.
At the end of the road is a small, secluded boat ramp surrounded by mangroves. We always park, pop a Corona and sit on the hood. The sparkling bay stretches out before us looking much the way it did when our ancestors were living in caves. If the breeze is blowing off the bay, turn your bottle with the mouth into the wind
and the bottle will sing. The more you drink, the deeper the song.
Life is a journey and so is the trip to the Casa. Enjoy every minute.
The website is KappaMapGroup.Com and the chart code is 1132135 ($5.99).
If you want to save on shipping, I'll take orders and send a group order.

Olga continued from page 4

have attended twelve or thirteen in total. After joining the club husband
Jim spent some time as the president of the Chicago Parrot Head Club
and Olga as Member at Large.
Life brought Jim and Olga to Florida in 2003 and they found the
Barefoot Children in 2005. Olga states one of the great things about the
Parrot Head Clubs nationwide is that you can be in pretty much any
large city in the country and quickly make friends by attending a meeting.
You start out by having the interest in the Buffett lifestyle in common with
everyone at the meeting. Olga said through the club she has made so
many friends and met so many people who enjoy the same lifestyle that
she embraces. She loves all of the events of the Barefoot Children, especially the Humane Society event at Maguires Hill 16, the Pub Crawl
and the Taste of Parrotdise. Olga loves everything about our club, in
particular the great people and charities we support.
I asked Olga which Buffett song was on the top of her play list
and she said it often changes depending on her mood but today it was
Tin Cup Chalice. She has no favorite album because in this iPod era all
albums are combined as one big play list and she really doesn’t even
know which song is from which album. I can guess however that as a
Grand Ol Parrot Head there was a time Olga needed to stack her 33RPM albums onto her Hi Fi and enjoy her
Buffett one album at a time!
Olga has been to at least ten large venue concerts and enjoys the tailgating more than the concert itself.
Olga says there is no tailgating better than the concerts at Alpine Valley in Wisconsin, where she caught the concerts in her earlier years. For Olga its all about “friends, friends, friends!!” Olga has also had the pleasure of
catching Jimmy all three times he appeared at MOTM in Key West.
I asked Olga about her best Buffett memory and her voice immediately swelled with enthusiasm! Several
years ago at MOTM Olga, Jim and friends from the Chicago PH Club were sitting upstairs in Margaritaville. They
were gathered together at a table and had made a number of Jimmy Buffett face masks with a stick to hold in
front of your face. Much to their surprise Jimmy Buffett and his body guard Charleston were sitting in the corner
upstairs as well. Jimmy came to husband Jim and asked if he could see the mask. Jimmy got a kick out of their
“art” and autographed the mask for Jim. He also asked if he could borrow the mask with the promise of returning it when done. Jim naturally let Jimmy take the mask and Jimmy Buffett walked downstairs on stage holding
the mask in front of his face. No one really thought it is was really Jimmy behind the mask. A girl in front of the
restaurant grabbed the mask from Jimmy to reveal his identity to the rest of the crowd. Unfortunately husband
Jim did not get his mask back as it was in the hands of the girl in front of the restaurant. Parrot Heads, being the
good people they are, helped Jim find the identity of the “mask snatcher” who gladly mailed the mask back to Jim
when she found out the story. Olga and Jim proudly have the signed mask hanging in the “Buffett room” of their
house. They are of a handful of people I know that can claim they have actually met Jimmy.
I asked Olga if she felt Jimmy is spending our money wisely and she said she has always felt Buffett
could remember what its like to be a fan and give a little bit more back to the fans that got him where he is. She
feels he could show up more at MOTM or even local club events to show his appreciation to the thousands of
Parrot Heads that raise millions of charity dollars in his name.
Does Olga spend her money wisely on Jimmy? “Yep” Rum, Tequila, Landshark…
Olga also enjoys the music of other Trop Rock singers, Sunny Jim, Howard Livingston, and locally Jimmy Stowe. She also feels the Parrot Head phenomena will carry on long after Jimmy retires from the concert
scene. Its not just about music, its about a lifestyle.
Olga lives in Pemkbroke Pines with husband Jim who works out of his home, which gives him the luxury
of growing that pony tail, and a work wardrobe considerably more comfortable than business casual. Olga
works at a charter middle school a few minutes from home. Jim and Olga have two daughters, ages 31 and 29.
Although the raised their girls in the Parrot Head way, neither of the girls consider themselves parrot heads.
Olga is one of those people you look at and just have to smile. If you are looking for a life long friend, be
sure to say Hi to her at our next club event, or she may seek you out and proclaim you as a lifelong friend like I
am! Thank you Olga for being such a great part of our club.
