D 14 15 14 SELVAGE E-mail [email protected] SELVAGE F BOLSTER COVER E ROUND MEDITATION PILLOWS: PILLOW COVER IN ONE FABRIC 9 FOLD INSERT ZIPPER Sewing procedures ITALICIZED in Sewing Directions are defined below: LADDER STITCH - Using a strong thread, take a small stitch in one edge close to seam. Then take a small stitch in the other edge close to seam. Pull up thread after each stitch to bring edges together. Continue to alternate from edge to edge with the smallest handstitches possible. Knot thread securely at end of stitching. FILL - To make it easier to fill your project, make a paper funnel by rolling up a rectangle of paper. Have a wider opening at the top and about a 1/2” (1.3cm) opening at the bottom. Place the small end in the opening. Use a small measuring cup to pour the filling into the top of the funnel. STUFF - Pull fiberfill apart and fluff it before you use it. Break apart the lumps and thick spots. This will help to create a smoother looking project Use pieces about the size of a tennis ball. Pack into place using the end of a long handled wooden spoon or chop-stick. Pack firmly in place each time stuffing is added. Use both hands to mold and shape, being careful not to over stuff or make lopsided. INSERT ZIPPER - Press under 3/4" (2cm) on one opening edge (this will be front) and 5/8" (1.5cm) on remaining opening edge (this will be back). Pin back edge to zipper tape, placing pressed edge close to zipper tape and tab end of zipper 1/4" (6mm) below dot. Baste. Pin and baste front edge to zipper tape, lapping front 1/8" (3mm) over back. Using an adjustable zipper foot, stitch as basted, squaring stitching at dots. English R1 3583 2/4 BAG AND YOGA MAT A 8 NOTE: If you prefer, seams and raw edges of bag can be finished with a zig-zag or overlock stitch. 8. With RIGHT sides together, stitch side seam on bag, leaving open between small dots. To form bottom, with RIGHT sides together, fold corners, matching seams and center to remaining seam. Stitch. BAG 1 1. To form corners on upper pocket, with RIGHT sides together, fold each corner, matching small dots. Stitch from small dot to point. Press folds to one side. Press under seam allowances. Prepare pocket in same manner. 3 9 9. Turn bag; press. To make casing, press upper edge to INSIDE along fold line for casing. Press under 1/4" (6mm) on raw edge. Stitch close to lower edge of casing, 2. Press under zipper tape at upper and lower ends. Pin lower edge of upper pocket and upper edge of pocket along zipper teeth, having side edges of pockets even. Stitch close to pressed edges using an adjustable zipper foot. 2 3. On OUTSIDE, pin pocket to bag for mat along pocket lines, matching small dots. Stitch close to all edges, breaking stitching at zipper. 10 10. Insert cord through casing, having ends extend evenly. Knot each end of cord. 4. With RIGHT sides together, stitch bottom seam of bag. 4 5 YOGA MAT COVER 11 5. For lower loop, cut a piece of webbing 5” (12.5cm) long. Insert loop through D-ring, bringing ends together. Pin. On OUTSIDE, center ends of loop between small dots on bottom. Baste. 12. Press under 1/2" (1.3cm) on one end of each tie. Fold tie in half, lengthwise with WRONG sides together. Press setting in a crease. Open out long edges of tie and turn them to WRONG side so that they meet at the crease. Press. Fold tie in half lengthwise, bringing pressed edges together. Stitch close to both long edges and pressed end. 12 6 11. With RIGHT sides together, pin mat front back sections, having raw edges even. Stitch along one short end, leaving open between small dots. Back-stitch at dots to reinforce seam. Press under 1/2" (1.3cm) on one opening edge (this will be front) and 3/8" (1cm) on remaining opening edge (this will be back). INSERT ZIPPER. 6. For strap, cut a piece of webbing 41” (105cm) long. Thread end through two D-rings. Fold under 1” (2.5cm), turning under 1/4” (6mm) on raw edge. Stitch end in place. Slip free end of strap through bottom D-ring on bag, then under and over the two D-rings. 13 13. Pin two ties to OUTSIDE of mat front and back over each large dot, having raw edges even. Baste across ties. 7 7. On OUTSIDE, pin free end of strap to side edge of bag between short solid lines. End of strap will extend beyond raw edge. Baste. English R1 3583 3/4 INSIDE PILLOW 14. With RIGHT sides together, stitch sides and lower edge leaving zipper open. Turn RIGHT side out. 14 3 3. For inside pillow, stitch muslin sections together in same manner as cover. Turn RIGHT side out. FILL or STUFF pillow. 4 4. LADDER STITCH opening closed. Insert pillow into cover. INSIDE MAT 15. Mark one inside mat front and back muslin section with dots for tufting as follows: Starting 6-1/2” (16.5cm) below upper edge, mark a dot along lengthwise center fold. Mark ten more dots along center, spacing them 6” (15cm) apart. Mark another row on each side of center in same manner, spacing them 6” (15cm) from center markings. You should have three rows of dots. 15 EYE BAG C 1 1. With RIGHT sides together, stitch sides and lower edge of eye bag sections. Press, pressing under 1/2” (1.3cm) on opening edges. 2 16. With RIGHT sides together, pin mat sections, having raw edges even. Stitch, leaving a 30” (76cm) opening along one long edge. Back-stitch at ends of seam to reinforce. Turn mat. 16 FLOOR PILLOW D (ZABUTON) COVER 1 17. Cut a piece of batting 27” x 70” (68.5cm x 178cm). To facilitate insertion of batting, roll up each short end of batting until they meet in the middle. Insert rolled batting into mat and unroll to each end of mat. Smooth batting in place. Turn under opening edges and pin together. LADDER STITCH opening. To tuft mat, pin all layers of mat together around dots using safety pins. Thread upholstery needle with strong thread. Knot ends together. Take a small stitch at dot to fasten thread, then insert needle through dot and come out on other side. Pull tightly and take a small stitch. Insert needle through stitch, come out at dot and fasten thread securely. Repeat for all dots. Insert mat into cover. To store mat, roll up mat and fasten with ties, then insert into bag as shown on front of pattern envelope. 17 2. Turn bag RIGHT side out. FILL bag. Pin opening edges together and top-stitch closed. 1. With RIGHT sides together, pin top and bottom sections, having raw edges even. Stitch unnotched edge, leaving open between large dots. Back-stitch at dots to reinforce seam. INSERT ZIPPER between large dots. 2 2. Open zipper. Stitch top and bottom sections together along notched edges. WEDGE MEDITATION PILLOW B COVER 1. With RIGHT sides together, pin back sections, matching small and large dots. Stitch, leaving open between small dots. 1 Machine-stitch long edges of back 1/2” (1.3cm) from raw edge. Clip to stitching. INSERT ZIPPER between small dots. 2 2. With RIGHT sides together, pin back to upper edge of one front and bottom section, matching centers and large dots. Stitch between large dots. Pin and stitch remaining front and bottom to other side of back in same manner. Pin lower front and bottom edges together, matching large dots. Stitch between large dots, keeping back seam allowances free. Back-stitch at dots to reinforce seam. To form corners, with RIGHT sides together, fold corners, matching seams. Stitch. Turn cover; press. English R1 3583 4/4 4 INSIDE MAT 4 4. With RIGHT sides together, pin side to end, placing seam at small dot on end. Baste. Stitch. Turn cover. 4. Mark one top and bottom inside muslin section with dots for tufting as follows: From single notched edge, measure 12” (30.5cm) down, then 6-1/2” (16.5cm) from center. Mark position with a dot. Mark another dot 6-1/2” (16.5cm) below first dot. Mark another row on other side of center in same manner. You should have four dots. Stitch top and bottom muslin sections in same manner as cover, disregarding zipper application. INSIDE BOLSTER Prepare muslin inside sections in same manner as cover omitting zipper. 5 5. Cut four pieces of batting, each 27” x 32” (68.5cm x 81.5cm). Stack layers together, having all edges even. To facilitate insertion of batting, fold batting into thirds. Insert folded batting into pillow and unfold to each side of pillow. Smooth batting in place. Turn under opening edges and pin together. LADDER STITCH opening closed. Tuft pillow, same as MAT A, see step 17. Insert pillow into cover. 5 5. FOR VIEW F - Starting at one end, roll up foam tightly into a cylinder. Hold free end in place with pins. Whipstitch pinned edge in place. FOR VIEW G - Starting at one end, fold over 6”(15cm) of foam to INSIDE. Fold another 6” (15cm), using inner edge as a guide. Continue folding foam in this manner along the entire length. Hold free end in place with pins. Whipstitch pinned edge in place. ROUND MEDITATION PILLOW E (ZAFU) 6 6. FOR VIEW F, G - Thread a long upholstery needle with strong thread. Knot ends together. Starting at one end, insert needle through foam shape, coming out at other side. Bring thread over rolled edges and insert needle again, spacing a 1” (2.5cm) stitch and coming out again. Continue handstitching along center of foam shape, finishing end by bring threads over rolled edges. COVER 1 1. WIth RIGHT sides together, stitch side sections for cover together, forming a circle. Machine-stitch upper and lower edges 3/8” (1cm) from raw edge. Clip to stitching. With RIGHT sides together, pin side to curved edge of top, placing seams at small dots. Stitch. Press seam toward top. 7 7. Fold batting in half lengthwise, having edges even. Cut along fold, forming two pieces. Center foam on batting. Edges of batting will extend beyond foam. Firmly roll batting around foam and whipstitch free edge in place, Turn ends of batting over ends of cylinder and whipstitch in place, shaping as you stitch. 2. Stitch bottom sections together, leaving open between large dots. Back-stitch at large to reinforce seam. INSERT ZIPPER between large dots. Open zipper. With RIGHT sides together, pin side to bottom, placing seams at small dots. Stitch. Press seam toward bottom. 2 INSIDE MAT Prepare muslin sections for pillow in same manner as cover, disregarding zipper. FILL or STUFF pillow. Turn under opening edges and LADDER STITCH. Insert pillow into cover. 1 8 8. Insert form into pillow. Insert pillow into cover. BOLSTER F, G COVER YOGA STRAP H 1. Stitch ends of bolster cover in a 3/4” (2.2cm) seam, leaving open between large dots. Back-stitch at large dots to reinforce seam. 2 3 INSERT ZIPPER between large dots. Open zipper. Machine-stitch each end of side 3/8” (1cm) from raw edge. Clip to stitching. 1 2 1. Thread end of webbing through two D-rings. Fold under 1-1/2” (3.8cm), turning under 1/2” (1.3cm) on raw edge. Stitch end in place and 1/4” (6mm) from first stitching. 2. Fold handle in half, lengthwise, with RIGHT sides together. Stitch long edges. 2. Turn under 1/4” (6mm) on remaining end. Turn under again and stitch close to inner edge. 3. Turn handle, centering seam; press. Pin handle to OUTSIDE of end, matching small dots.
