t-shirt! Together, we can boost this wonderful cause that we are all so

Make a Blanket Day
Don’t forget! National Make A Blanket Day is February 15, 2014! This is an
opportunity to not only make a blanket for the organization, but also to spread
the word about what we do, and how it helps those in need. Tell someone about
Project Linus. Announce a blanket-making party, perhaps to be held in March, so
that everyone has time to receive their Handmade Hugs t-shirt! Teach someone
to sew and pass along your knowledge as well as the importance of getting
involved in community service!
The Sentimental Side
The following notes from those that we serve, help remind us why we do what we
do . . .
I had my baby on November 11th. He had to go directly to the NICU. I couldn’t
even see him. It was a wonderful but difficult experience. After some days in the
hospital my baby and I were able to go home. My sister gave me a newborn snow
coat, but it was too big for him. The nurse gave me a Project Linus blanket which
helped me take my baby warm and cozy back home. After that time at the hospital
and seeing him in the incubator, having that blanket was very emotional. He now
loves that blanket to sleep. Every time I see it, it reminds me that there are nice,
loving people helping someone else that they don’t even know, and that brings a
smile to my face. Thank you!!!!!

I received a Project Linus blanket in 2009, when my son was born at 28 weeks
gestation. He used it for the 4 hours he was alive, and when he passed away, and
the time came to let go, I broke. In a bag with all his belongings, the hospital sent
us his blanket. It still smelled like him, and it kept me sane during a time when I
was losing my grip on reality. I still have that blanket, and my younger son now
knows that a very kind group of strangers gave it to his big brother when he was
sick. Thank you so much for the comfort that blanket gave me.

New Coordinator Needed!
It is with a heavy heart that I must announce I will no longer be able to continue my
service as Coordinator for Project Linus Will County Illinois. My husband has
received a wonderful promotion which will require us to relocate to Peoria, IL.
It is my most sincere wish that I will be able to find a replacement coordinator as
soon as possible, so that this chapter will remain active, and our work can continue
without pause. If you or someone you know is interested in considering the role,
please contact me right away for more details. This role can be filled by an
individual, or group. Of note, I would like to make the transition immediately so that
I will be available to overlap with the new Coordinator and provide help and guidance.

There is such a need for Project Linus in our area, and I can tell you that it will be
one of the most fulfilling and rewarding endeavors any person can experience. To be
sure, it will require some time and storage/workspace availability, perhaps no more
than you already have carved out as a blanketeer. In addition, there are so many
outstanding, treasured volunteers already in service with our chapter that you will
be surrounded by ready and willing aids! Project Linus is a family of collaborators
working to help children in need, and you will forever cherish being involved in a lead
role in this service!
Sadly, if a replacement cannot be found within the month, our chapter will be closed.
So please, consider taking on this mission so that we can continue to wrap the
hurting children of Will County in handmade hugs!

Our Etsy.com store, Colors4Comfort, will be discontinued, as it has not proven to be
a viable fundraising option. All items that were listed on the site will be donated to
organizations which are served by Project Linus. We will continue to search for
additional and greater opportunities to provide for our chapter!

Our first mission is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort
to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through
the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by
volunteer “blanketeers.”

Special Requests
If you know of a child suffering from a traumatic situation who may benefit
from a Project Linus blanket, but is not already being reached through one of
our recipient organizations, please let us know.
The Chapter would love to extend across the community to any child in crisis to
provide some measure of comfort and security with a Project Linus blanket. If
the child in need is not local, I would be happy to contact the closest
coordinator, and let her know of the situation.
