Shuktara Paper in Feni, Bangladesh, buys waste jute from the
carpet factories. The women chop it into small pieces with an axe.
It is then crushed, boiled, washed, pulped, dyed, sieved through
large screens, layered between cloth, pressed, dried, ironed and
patterned before being made into finished products – a lengthy
process, requiring strength and skill. ’Shuktara is my life,’ says
Rebeya. ’Please give us more orders – we want to do more work.’
