How to Enter:
Go the the CCDI website at www.capecraftanddesign.org.za
for the Information sheet, and to complete FORM ONE. This
will show your interest to submit a display work. Forms may
also be collected from the CCDI reception desks.
DEADLINE FOR PHOTOGRAPHIC ENTRIES IS
FRIDAY 2 DECEMBER 2011 15:30.
Please note: FORM TWO needs to be completed and
submitted with the photographs.

here are less than 2 MONTHS to go, to DESIGN
AND CREATE a beautiful handmade object,
to enter for the CCDI’s 4th annual Handmade
Collection. The Collection will be unveiled at the
Design Indaba Expo in February 2012.
We have seen so much of your new work at various shows and
exhibitions! From jewellery, to ceramics, to textiles, to furniture,
and so much more - the Western Cape craft sector is buzzing!
Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of this prestigious
Collection. It is showcased for the first time at Design Indaba
Expo, and also DISPLAYED at various prominent galleries.
Influential journalists need stunning work to write about, and
the MEDIA COVERAGE starts in February extending throughout
the year. The CCDI places articles and advertorials in select
publications, and products from the Collection are showcased.
The beautifully designed CATALOGUE, with information on
the participants and their products, reaches a wide audience,
from media to buyers. This is handed to local and international
visitors to Design Indaba, including international buyers from
the world’s leading design outlets, on the lookout for unique
and beautiful items to order for their stores.
You have so much to gain if your product is selected for this
premier showcase of the very best handmade products in the
Western Cape. To stand a chance to enjoy this great exposure
at no cost to yourself, submit one or more entries (three max).
Keep in mind that an object may not exceed 1x1x1m. The
SELECTION PANEL is drawn from experts in the field of
industrial design, architecture, lifestyle publications, craft retail
and fashion, and are looking for innovation, creativity and
originality.
It’s time to start pushing your creative boundaries; your work
may be part of the 2012 CCDI Handmade Collection.
Celebrate 10 years with the CCDI
We will soon by celebrating the
CCDI’s tenth birthday – and we
are calling on you to reflect this
major milestone by creating
commemorative handmade
products. These will be
showcased in our meeting room
area as part of our festivities.
The deadline – 31 October – is fast approaching, so please
contact us to share your ideas and to help make this a
memorable occasion. Help us to reflect how we have grown
this past decade, and at the same time you can showcase
your own talents!

Cape Craft AWARDS
We are looking for
Western Cape Craft
ICONS
The CCDI is inviting nominations from craft producers and
other interested parties for our 2011 Western Cape Craft
AWARDS programme. We wish to recognize achievement,
dedication, development, growth and hard work in the
craft, hand-manufacturing and craft art sector.
The CCDI is inviting nominations from craft producers and
other interested parties for our 2011 Western Cape Craft
ICONS programme.
The awards are conferred by the CCDI on
INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE PARTICIPATED IN
CCDI PROGRAMMES.
There are various categories of Awards, and an Award may
be conferred upon more than one person per category. A
person may be recognised for their Business approach,
their Marketing approach, or for the quality and progress
of their Product.
Awards will be given in the following categories:
Product | Business/Training | Marketing.
• In the Product Category, creativity in the design of the product is recognized, as well as adaptability to market trends and changing economic situations.
•
In the Business & Training Category, factors such as attendance of the courses on offer are considered, as well as the person’s progress in applying knowledge gained through the courses to the various facets of the craft enterprise.
•
In the Marketing Category the craft producer’s growth
and professionalism in engaging with the marketplace
is recognized, their progress in sales, perseverance
in the economic climate, and export achievements. Of
particular note is the Award given to someone who is a
Role Model in being willing to assist others and share
their expertise.
PLEASE NOTE: Award winners can be nominated by
their peers in the craft sector or other interested parties in
the sector, but not by family members, or by friends who
are not in the craft sector. The winners will be selected
by a panel of CCDI staff members. The winners will be
announced at the CCDI 10-year celebration party.

This is the HIGHEST LEVEL OF HONOUR AND
RECOGNITION for achievement in the field of
craft, hand-manufacturing and craft art in the
Western Cape.
Icons are honoured for their lifework, therefore not for
recent progress. They may be honoured in various
categories, such as:
• Designer (excellence of design and craftsmanship)
• Innovator (outstanding innovation)
• Entrepreneur (showing entrepreneurship in the craft sector)
• Job Creator (valued socio-economic contribution, creating jobs, improving lives)
• Trend Setter (setting consumer trends)
• Sector Leader (visionary leadership in the craft sector)
• Role Model (an iconic person – who lives and produces in the Western Cape)
• and for an Iconic Product (developed in the Western Cape).
PLEASE NOTE: Western Cape Icons may be nominated
