Traditional craftmanship, for today’s homes

A unique idea
with long
traditions
In 1882 the American businessman Henry C. Yeiser set up The Globe
Files Co. in Cincinnati to manufacture office furniture and filing cabinets. Around the same time another furniture factory, The Wernicke
Co., was set up in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The Wernicke Co. developed its own bookshelf system using glass
cabinet elements of various sizes. The elements could be stacked and
placed side by side to create a wide range of units. Henry C. Yeiser
liked the idea and decided to buy out his competitor. The merged
company was called The Globe Wernicke Co.
The Wernicke bookshelf system was patented and soon became so

popular that several European furniture manufacturers became interested in producing a similar model. The first producer in Finland was
Billnäs Bruks Aktiebolag.
The popular Boknäs bookcases continue and uphold this tradition.
Blending a unique idea with uncompromising traditional craftsmanship, Boknäs has grown into a complete interior design company.
Boknäs® is a registered trademark of Boknäs Furniture Ltd.
Boknäs bookcases are made from birch, using the cabinetmaking
skills of yesteryear. They can easily be combined both with the original
American models and with bookcases made by Billnäs Bruk. Every
year we add new products to the Boknäs product family, reflecting
both our own passion and customers’ wishes.
I am extremely pleased that our bookcases and furniture have found
their way into the homes and hearts of interior designers and booklovers.

Ingenious
furnishing
made easy
Assembling Boknäs bookcases couldn’t be easier. The ready-made
bookcase elements are stacked and/or placed side by side until you
have just the combination you want. That’s all there is to it. You can
add to and adapt the combination according to your needs.
Boknäs bookcases
retain their value
Boknäs bookcases are crafted from high-quality birch and durable
blockboard. They are made to last and age gracefully. The close-fitting
doors ensure that books and other valuable items do not gather dust.
Each shelf is carefully sanded and beautifully finished. The surface is
then stained and given two coats of varnish (mahogany three coats).
The result is a beautiful surface that is easy to keep clean. You may
choose display units with glass or wooden doors and add internal
shelves according to your own wishes. Drawer units may also be
added. Corner elements make it possible to have combinations that
extend elegantly round inner or outer corners.

Woodwash
brings nature
indoors
Our new colour is naturally clear with a tinge of either grey or green,
depending on the lighting. Woodwash is set to be a perennial classic
colour alongside the original dark brown. The natural flamy grain
structure of birch is highlighted, giving the furniture a gentle natural
touch, which is a growing trend in interior design in general.
Each piece of furniture is also entirely individual, since woodgrain
is like fingerprints – no two are alike. Like other stains, Woodwash
colour permeates deep into the wood structure, so minor scratches
do not show up easily. Woodwash stained furniture has a mellow, light
overall look that blends perfectly with both traditional and modern
interior design styles.

are made for
relaxing
We are proud and delighted to present the Boknäs family of sofas.
Timeless, comfortable and warmhearted, these classic sofas give a
welcome embrace to people of all ages. The family includes two sizes
of sofas, a divan, an armchair and a footstool. With seating that is
comfortable and provides good support and with exceptionally high
quality upholstery options, these sofas will form the inviting, warm
centre of your home, to be enjoyed from one year to the next. This
classic range is here to stay, so you can easily add elements later on,
according to your own requirements.
The quality is in the materials
Quality furnishing and durable materials are central to our thinking
at Boknäs. The frames and the upholstery used in our sofas and
armchairs directly affect their lifecycle. The seat and backrest
cushions are fully upholstered, which doubles their usable life.
Quality materials retain their shape and stay comfortable for a long,
long time.
