A P P L I C A T I O “O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, In a dry and weary land where there is no water. Thus I have seen You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory.” Psalm 63:1-2 N 17451 E. Bastanchury Rd. (#203), Yorba Linda, CA 92886 714.993.4801 ext. 101/ Fax 714 993 4763 / [email protected] Page 2 Beloved, Over the years, I have had the privilege to pastor a church that desires to sincerely worship God . I’ve met people of all ages, and from all walks of life. Each person has had an insatiable desire to learn about worship, not just in relation to his or her role as a musician, singer, or worship leader, but as a way of life. I would first like to express my gratitude for your interest in Saving Grace’s Worship Ministry. I am pleased to learn more about each and every one of you as together we all pursue God’s direction for you in Worship Ministry. From the start my desire is to share with you what Jesus has told us about worship. In the Gospel of John he told the Samaritan woman at the well that “true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him” (4:23 – ESV). That would seem simple enough, but exactly how we do that is another story. In a book entitled, Engaging with God: A Biblical Theology of Worship, author David Peterson quotes this paragraph in his opening chapter and describes worship as such: “Worship is the supreme and only indispensable activity of the Christian Church. It alone will endure, like the love for God which it expresses, into heaven, when all other activities of the church will have passed away. It must therefore, even more strictly than any of the less essential doing of the Church, come under the criticism and control of the revelation on which the church is founded.” Saying this, I do not assume that everyone who reads this is or will be a worship leader in some sense. However, every one of us can benefit from understanding what CCSG Worship Ministry goals and direction ought to be as we gather and give glory to God in public worship. So, what does it mean to be a leader? When someone takes a position in front of a group of people, he or she will, to one degree or another, be leading, whether intentionally or not. Romans 12:6 says leaders must lead with zeal (ESV), or govern diligently (NIV). Both of these phrases I believe speak of faithfully seeking to direct a worship meeting in a responsible and godly manner. Page 3 Obviously God can at any moment manifest His presence; nonetheless, God has identified specific activities and attitudes to which He generally responds. For example, critical words quench the Spirit, while praise invites His involvement. Thus, there must be intentionality and purpose behind what a worship leader does. Since we’re leading people and not just “leading worship,” we need to be clear on what direction we’re taking them in. It is so important for us to understand that worship is neither automatic nor mindless. On the contrary, it is intentional, purposeful, and very much involves our entire mind! Secondly, the purpose of worship is to enter in to a fresh awareness of who God is and what He has done (Heb. 10:19-22). Finally, we must understand that to be a worship leader is to lead people effectively. We always ought to expect good fruit from our labors. Worship leading is not roulette (it is not a hit or miss proposition). God desires every time to bless us with His manifest presence when we gather to worship Him and we must remember this at all times. Most importantly we must sow to His glory in demonstration for the body of Saving Grace. We must paint a compelling and magnificent biblical picture of our great God and Savior! In the days to come I look forward to discussing with you the many facets of worship ministry and your possible future role in the Worship Ministry here at Calvary Chapel Saving Grace. Sincerely, Pastor Trent Douglass Page 4 WORSHIP TEAM MINISTRY PRE-QUALIFICATION In identifying the following pre-qualifications and commitments for participation in the worship ministry of our church, it is our intention that there is a calling, anointing, and a humble, godly desire evident in the participant. Page 14 Which view of eschatology do you hold to concerning the following? Please check one: Pre-Tribulation Rapture: (or "pre-trib") The Rapture happens just before the Tribulation, so that believers will not have to experience any of its disruption and pain. Post-tribulation Rapture: (or "post-trib") The faithful remain during the entire Tribulation and are raptured only at the end of the 7 years. Mid-Tribulation Rapture: (or "mid-trib") The Rapture happens at mid point (3 ½ Years) into the Tribulation. Pre-wrath Rapture: View teaches that the church must experience most of the Tribulation, and then be raptured towards the end of the Tribulation period. Please check one: The Preterist View: The events prophesized in Matthew 24-25, and most of Revelation have already happened. The great war of Armageddon in the book of Revelation occurred in AD 70 when the temple in Jerusalem was destroyed, many Jews were killed and the rest were driven from Palestine. When Jesus talked about the end of the world, He did not mean that the physical world would be no more. The Futurist View: The futurist sees in chapters 4-22 predictions of people and events yet to come in the future. This is grammatical, historical, and literal interpretation of the book of Revelation. Unsure, or have not studied this aspect of Eschatology. Partial Rapture: This theory teaches that only the faithful born-again believers are raptured just before the Tribulation. Unsure, or have not studied this aspect of Eschatology. Please check one: Amillennialism: (Also known as Non-millennialism). Believe that the Kingdom of God is present in the world today through the presence of the heavenly reign of Christ, the Bible, the Holy Spirit and Christianity. Both good and evil will continue in the world until the current Church Age ends suddenly as Christ returns to the sky above the earth. The Rapture follows. The Redeemed are transported to heaven where they will adopt spiritual bodies. The majority of humanity will be sent to Hell at this time for eternal punishment. The world will be abandoned. History is no more. Under this belief system, we are currently living in the Millennium and in the Tribulation period. Please answer the following: Would you consider yourself a Calvinist? ___Yes ___No If yes, what points do you adhere to? Postmillennialism: (Also known as "Christian Reconstruction", "Kingdom Now Theology" and "Dominion Theology.") Holds that the kingdom of God is now being extended in the world through the preaching of the gospel and the saving work of the Holy Spirit, that the world eventually is to be Christianized, and that the return of Christ will occur at the close of a long period of righteousness and peace, commonly called the millennium. Premillennialism: The view that Christ’s Second Advent will occur before the earthly millennium of Revelation 20, and will, in fact, institute that millennium. This is the idea that Christ will reign on the earth physically for a long period, probably a thousand years. Unsure, or have not studied this aspect of Eschatology. Would you consider yourself an Armenianist? ___Yes ___No If yes, please explain. Page 15 MUSICAL INFORMATION What is your educational/training background relative to music? Discontinued Financial Reports What instruments do you play? How long have you played these instruments? What do you believe your current skill level is on these instruments? What is your current participation in worship or sound ministry? Do you have any desire to be involved with any other avenue within worship or sound ministry? (There are numerous ministries for organization and administration within the worship ministry) Are you available and/or gifted with helps? Would you be interested in being involved with kids praise? How is your schedule right now in your life: Busy, freed up, going into a new season? Explain. What days are you available? And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. As we consider this verse, it is important to take a moment and reflect on our own life to see if there is anything that may be hindering us from living a holy life (e.g., an impure relationship, any addictive behavior, and the like). We believe there is one God, eternally existing in three Persons: the Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1, Deuteronomy 6:4, Matthew 28:19, John 10:30). We believe in the deity of Christ (John 10:33); His virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23, Luke 1:34-35); His sinless life (Hebrews 4:15, 7:26); His miracles (John 2:11); His vicarious and atoning death (I Corinthians 15:3, Ephesians 1:7, Hebrews 2:9); His resurrection (John 11:25, I Corinthians 15:4); His ascension to the right hand of the Father (Mark 16:19); His personal return to earth in power and glory (Acts 1:11, Revelation 19:11-16). We believe in the absolute necessity of regeneration by the Holy Spirit for salvation because of the exceeding sinfulness of the human nature, and that all are justified on the single ground of faith in the shed blood of Christ, and that only by God's grace through faith alone are we saved (John 3:16-19; 5:24, Romans 3:23; 5:8-9, Ephesians 2:8-10, Titus 3:5). We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; those who are saved unto the resurrection of eternal life, and those who are not saved unto the resurrection of eternal damnation (John 5:28-29). We believe in the spiritual unity of the believers in our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:9, I Corinthians 12:1213, Galatians 3:26-28). We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by Whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life (Romans 8:13-14, I Corinthians 3:16, 6:19-20, Ephesians 4:30; 5:18). We believe that we, as Christians, are examples of the love of God in this world. It is this (agape) love that we desire to possess and without which we have no right to call ourselves Christians (I John 4:16-17). I have read and fully understand as well as accept the terms stated in this document without reservation and in good faith.
