A Dutch immigrant barber, Hendrik Meijer, met the needs of the small town by opening a small grocery store that focused on fair prices. • By 1962 Hendrik had pioneered the first supercenter and the "one-stop shopping" concept. • Meijer has always been a leader in utilizing new technology. This includes everything from the introduction of checkout scanners in the 1970’s to the decision to stay open 24 hours in the 1980’s to the launch of Meijer.com in the 1990’s. © GS1 US 2014 ALL RIGHTS RESERVED 4 4 6/5/2014 WHERE ARE WE TODAY… • Meijer is a Grand Rapids, Michigan-based retailer operating over 200 supercenters throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky, and expanding to Wisconsin in 2015.
