Stepwise installation of 64-bit BI Server and 32-bit Metric Server in One Machine
Introduction
Metrics Server is currently available only in 32 bit so, if the integration is done incorrectly some BI studios
won't work or show up when accessing them from Cognos Connection.
This document illustrates in detail the installation of 64 bit BI Server and 32 bit Metric Server on
same machine with proven configuration guide.
Prerequisites


Cognos BI Server 10x – 64 bit
Metric Server 10x – 32 bit
Installation Scenario
Approach 1:
1. Install the 64-bit BI server Application Tier and Content Manager in one install folder (ex.
C:\Program Files\IBM\Cognos\c10BI-64).
2. Install the 32-bit BI server gateway, the Metric Server gateway and Metric Application Tier into
another install folder (ex. C:\Program Files\IBM\Cognos\c10BI-Metrics).
3. In the Web server, point the cognos and cognos/cgi-bin virtual directories to the
appropriate webcontent and cgi-bin directories of the 32-bit components install
instance respectively.
Approach 2:
1. Install the 64-bit BI server Application Tier and Content Manager in one install folder ex.
C:\Program Files\IBM\Cognos\c10BI-64).
2. Install the 32-bit Metric Application Tier into another install folder (ex. C:\Program
Files\IBM\Cognos\c10BI-Metrics).
3. Install the 32-bit BI Server and Metric Server gateway components into a third install folder (ex.
C:\Program Files\IBM\Cognos\c10BI-GW).
4. Create the Cognos 10 Virtual Directories in IIS/HTTP Server for the 32-Bit Gateway components
from step 3. You will then need to open Cognos Configuration for the 3 installs and change the
dispatcher port for the Metrics server install and add both dispatchers to the list of dispatcher
URI's for gateway in the Gateway Cognos Configuration.

Configuration manager settings for the 64-bit BI install. All is default settings (no change at all).
Now, start the Cognos service.

Cognos Configuration: 32-bit Metric Server Application Tier/Gateway and 32-bit BI Server Gateway
Step 1
Modify the dispatcher settings of 32 bit Metric Server Gateway & Application Tier – Cognos Configuration
as shown below:
Note that Content Manager URIs points to the content store installed in 64-bit BI on port 9300.
Step 2
Modify the Local log server port number as shown below:

Disable some of the services as shown exactly below:

Modify the Shutdown port number to 9400 as shown below:
Now, start the Cognos service for 32-bit Metric Server.
