New lifejacket concept
VIKING’s inflatable lifejackets are built around a modular
design for a tailor-made solution.
Complete integration of components
The new series has a general design philosophy that allows for complete
integration of optional components. And with a selection of buoyancy,
different closure types (buckles), cover materials, colours and a host of
accessories, you can configure a lifejacket according to specific needs.
SOLAS regulations
According to regulations, all lifejackets must come with a light, whistle,
reflective tape, lifting strap, buddy line and two automatic inflation systems.
For added safety VIKING has mounted a crotch strap on all lifejackets as well.
And no matter how you design your VIKING inflatable lifejacket it will fulfil
existing and future SOLAS requirements as described in MSC-200(81).

How to design your
own lifejacket
VIKING makes it easy to configure a lifejacket tailor-made
to work conditions in a few easy steps.
First select the appropriate buoyancy. Then pick a cover material; buckle style;
inflation system and light.
If you want to add a sprayhood, a PLB (personal locator beacon) or both,
just check the appropriate boxes on the check list on page 34 or tell your
VIKING contact.

All VIKING inflatable SOLAS lifejackets come with a whistle, reflective tape,
lifting strap and crotch strap. The crotch strap ensures that the lifejacket stays
in position, and helps maintain a correct flotation angle.

Buoyancy
Buoyancy is an upward acting force, caused by fluid pressure
that keeps things afloat. The higher the Newton number (N)
the higher the buoyancy.
Rule of thumb: For general use, select 180N. For situations when extra weight is
carried, select 275N.
As asymmetrical chambers offer faster and better turning capabilities, select a
275N asymmetrical when extra weight is carried, e.g. heavy tool belts.

Our wipe clean covers are repellent yet soft to the touch
and extremely hard wearing.
After use simply wipe clean with a damp or wet cloth. Choose from four matte

Closure (buckle style)
VIKING offers a range of closure types from the standard side
buckle to the top of the line seat belt style salsa buckle with
harness and D-ring.

About Salsa
Closed in the front with a seat belt style snap lock buckle. Comes complete with
a D-ring and harness that can be attached to a fixed point for increased safety.
The salsa style offers quick and easy adjustment for a superior fit and is donned
like a jacket. It is ISO 12401 approved and typically used in offshore and wind
energy industries.
About Interlock
Closed in the front with a bikini style interlock metal buckle. It is donned like a
jacket and comes with a D-ring. Used for commercial fishing or by those sailing
in rough weather conditions, arctic areas etc.
About Side
The snap lock plastic buckle is closed at the side and donned over the head.

Inflation system
All SOLAS lifejackets must have two independent automatic
inflation systems – one on each buoyancy chamber.

About Halkey Roberts
The Halkey Roberts inflation system activates the lifejacket when in contact with
water (or when strap is pulled). It is mounted on the outside of the buoyancy
chamber, which makes it very easy to service.
About Hammar
Used in industries where water splashes are common. The lifejacket inflates
when under hydrostatic pressure (10 cm below water surface) or when strap is
pulled. Unit is mounted inside the buoyancy chamber.

Light
The light is a single compact flashing unit designed to deliver,
as a minimum standard, the 0.75cd output specification and 8
hour duration required by IMO SOLAS regulations. It works in in
fresh or salt water.

About Automatic
Activates automatically when in water and stays activated even if the light is
above water.
About Manual
Activation takes place manually by rotation of the light glass. A manual light can
be turned off to preserve valuable battery time.

About Sprayhood
The sprayhood reduces water splashes to the face, reduces stress and reflex
reactions and therefore enhances survival. It also gives the wearer better visibility
to navigate in harsh weather conditions.
About Personal Locator Beacon (PLB)
Primarily used in the offshore and wind energy industries a PLB provides global
coverage, so that you are found quickly, even in the most remote of locations.
VIKING can equip your lifejacket with a PLB pocket and supply the actual beacon
as well.

The lifejacket has an ergonomic fit with neck, head and back support that
ensure a more comfortable wear and face up floating position with good
freeboard and free breathing.
The tapered bottom makes for easy gliding through the chute evacuation
systems and reduces impact and pressure on neck area when jumping into
water.
Small features make a big difference
All lifejackets come with a soft protective neck cover (detachable), light
(optional), lifting hand grip, buddy line, whistle and retro-reflective tape that
is sewn on for added durablility (no peeling).

What happens when your lifejacket needs to be serviced?
VIKING certified servicing stations follow strict guidelines for servicing VIKING’s
products. Our unique worldwide network of servicing stations is supported by
certified educational programmes, spare parts supply and constantly updated
online information and manuals that ensure that all products delivered for
servicing are subjected to thorough and comprehensive tests for total quality
assurance.
What is the difference between servicing
an inflatable vs. a solid lifejacket?
All inflatable SOLAS lifejackets must be serviced once a year by a VIKING
certified servicing station.
There is no regulation covering servicing of solid SOLAS lifejackets. However,
an annual inspection by a certified servicing station is strongly recommended.
