The secret to the world’s top-performing
companies is the efficient and expertlymanaged supply chains that support them.
Forward-thinking practitioners understand
that the key to a well-run supply chain is to
manage those things that are within their
control, and anticipate and mitigate those
that are not. The single component they’re
most able to control is costs.
CSCMP’s Europe Conference will provide you with the insights, best practices,
and techniques refined by the experiences of leading global supply chain
executives. You will be able to adapt
this proven, marketplace-tested information to streamline your organization’s
own supply chain to significantly reduce costs, today…and in the future.
Our slate of sessions, speakers, forums,
and peer-to-peer discussions will help
you retool your supply chain to ensure
its agility and responsiveness to the
challenges that arise along the way.

PwC Supply Chain Game
(held at the Park Plaza Amsterdam Airport Hotel)
The Leagile Game: Learn to Manage
Supply Chain Complexity in a Rapidly
Changing Environment*
In recent years, many companies have emphasized strategies such as just in time, lean
manufacturing, and offshoring. However, the
significant economic changes have placed
many companies in peril. The recent economic downturn has most likely affected your own
company’s supply chain and its capability of
being resilient. How do you manage complexity in a rapidly changing environment yet continue to be lean and agile? Adaptations to
your processes are required; it may even be
necessary for you to rethink the entire supply
chain within your operations to stay ahead of
the competition. In order to support you in this
process, PwC invented the Leagile Game—an
extended enterprise game for brain training
and team building.

Enabling Sustainable and Profitable
Growth at Unilever
This speaker will share how an efficient supply
chain creates sustainable and profitable growth
for Unilever, a major multi-national company
in the fast-moving consumer goods sector. The
company’s supply chain became the foundation
for its recent successful turnaround. The session
will provide a strategic view of Unilever’s supply chain competitive advantage.

GENERAL Session
Designing the Supply Chain Network:
Creating Low-Cost Operations Through
the Initial Design
The performance tradeoff of cost and service
plagues most supply chain professionals. This
can cause incremental improvement, as well
as methodologies driven toward continuous
improvement. However, breakthrough improvement can be engineered even in established
companies. Learn how continued geographic
expansion and line extension can provide a
tremendous opportunity for companies to
optimize their performance.

breakout sessions
Track 1: Towards a Sustainable Future
for Transport and Logistics
Transport and logistics account for approximately 25% of all anthropogenic greenhouse
gas emissions in the world. Yet, about 50% of
the European transport capacity is left underutilized and of all industry sectors, transport and
logistics are the only ones that are not making
progress in structurally reducing their carbon
footprint. This speaker will share his vision of
the future of logistics, and explain what companies can do to make their supply chains more
sustainable and innovative.
Serge de Gheldere, Climate Ambassador for Al
Gore and Chief Executive Officer, Futureproofed
Track 2: Procurement Transformation—
For, With, and Through the Business
CEOs are expecting more contributions from
their procurement functions, and advanced procurement organizations are eager to increase
the contributions they deliver. The next phase
of Johnson & Johnson’s (J&J) procurement transformation program centers on a set of so-called
building blocks. These include critical areas for
procurement progress, such as sustainability,
innovation, and talent management. In this session, these building blocks will be introduced
and the practices that J&J is developing will be
shared. One of the key learnings for J&J leadership has been that there are core pitfalls from
potential misalignment with business partners.
For this reason, their approach is developed for,
with, and through the business in order to stay
in tune with business needs. In this interactive
session, critical success factors will be identified
and explored with participants. The discussion
will focus on sharing tips and lessons on how
to succeed.

Creating Tomorrow’s Smarter Supply
Chain Solutions
Track 1: Should You Think About the
Airport in Your Supply Chain Design?
A professional airport is a marketplace that
offers a full range of facilities and services
to its customers. It is the synergy between all
players at the airport that determines the efficiency of the process. From airlines to handling agents to customs to forwarders who,
in close cooperation, are developing ways
of making the processes connected, faster,
and stronger. This helps balance the cost of
inventory at all points in the supply chain
with its availability to the customer.
Enno D. Osinga, Senior Vice President
Cargo, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol
Track 2: Learn How to Implement a Key
Step in an Optimized European Supply
Chain Network
This session will focus on how to design an
optimized supply chain network for Europe
with the speaker sharing his innovative warehousing concept. You will discover what
choices he made and why, what prerequisites were involved, the issues that arose,
and what was learned.
Jeroen Speelman, Senior Director, Philips
Consumer Lifestyle
This presentation will cover some of the important challenges and opportunities that the
future holds for supply chain management
professionals. Recognizing the differences
between markets, companies like Procter &
Gamble (P&G) are designing efficient supply
chains that are able to meet today’s—and
tomorrow’s—service and cost requirements.
P&G has demonstrated that environmental
sustainability is one example of an inspirational driver for supply chain innovation,
pairing well with longer-term cost reductions.
Even when the challenges and opportunities to society and companies are clear, the
solutions and innovations to effectively tackle
these still need to be developed further;
no one organization can do it on its own.
It is critical to collaborate with academia,
industry consortia, governments, suppliers,
customers, and other companies to co-create
the solutions for tomorrow. P&G leaders are
reaching out to connect and create smarter,
better supply chain solutions for tomorrow’s
consumers.

General Session Panel
Many companies today are working with
a myriad of international suppliers and,
therefore, face numerous sustainability challenges. How do you manage sustainability
risks in your supply chain? How will you
create sustainable value for all your partners
and be able to move beyond a traditional
approach of auditing and compliance? This
session will highlight recent sustainability
challenges, company responses, and a stepby-step approach to achieving sustainability
progress in the supply chain.
Anneke Sipkens, Director Sustainability
Strategy and Innovation, Deloitte
Track 2: Cross-Border Network Design
Manufacturing network choices can have a
significant impact on procurement and vice
versa. This session will demonstrate how
network design and procurement are interlinked—and why this is vital to your supply
chain.
Jan A. van Rooden, Vice President Supply
Chain CEEMEA and Group Director Supply
Chain Development, Hero Group
11:00 – 11:45
breakout sessions
Track 1: Case Study: First Experiences
with Collaborative Transport Sourcing
at Baxter
In 2011, healthcare company Baxter was
the first shipper in the world to successfully
apply horizontal collaboration and network
orchestration to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability of its European
transport network. In the meantime, freight
flow bundling has evolved from an innovative concept to a powerful and proven supply chain strategy. In this session, a Baxter
representative will explain how the company
structurally collaborated with other shippers to synchronize loads, share logistics
capacity, and create synergies of scale. The
speaker will disclose some first experiences
and tips on building shared supply chains,
finding good bundling partners, fair cost/
benefit sharing, anti-trust legislation, and
organizational aspects.
Ludovic Ménédème, EMEA Transport Director,
Baxter Healthcare
Track 2: Redirecting Amway Europe’s
Sourcing Strategy from a Supply
Chain Perspective
This speaker will share his experience in
adopting a regional responsive sourcing pull
strategy instead of a centralized USA-based
push strategy. As an integral supply chain
management provider, the speaker’s company was leading this process in Europe, the
Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) for Amway.
Can it work for you? Find out.
Frank Timmers, Vice President Supply Chain
Europe, Access Business Group, Int. B.V.

How to Successfully Navigate the Lean
“Journey”
The implementation of lean is a challenging
and promising journey. Diverse companies
have shown remarkable successes with their
lean implementations in direct and indirect
functions. To be successful on the lean journey requires a balanced combination of
hard facts (structure and content) and soft
facts (culture and competence). The implementation of lean begins with lean methods
and tools to create a long-term learning organization. In this presentation, participants
will discover how to apply the steps of the
lean journey: how to implement; how long
it might take, and how Siemens is facing
the implementation of lean across functions,
countries, and companies. The approach
will be explained through a variety of examples focused on logistics and supply chain
management applications.

Manager, Siemens AG
