OIPEEC (Organisation Internationale Pour l’Etude de l’Endurance des Cables) is an
international association of people with an interest in all aspects of rope technology,
including the selection, behaviour, endurance, degradation, inspection and discard.
Established in 1963, OIPEEC currently has over 100 members from 28 countries.
We would like to invite you to share your experience, knowledge and opinion with other
experts from all over the world by presenting a paper or short presentation at the
OIPEEC Conference 2007. The topic “How to get the most out of your ropes: ropemachine interaction, rope maintenance and lubrication” covers all applications, be it
cranes, winches, shovels, mine winders or any other machines.
If you are interested, please send an abstract of an original, unpublished
paper relevant to the title and including following information:

Conference Venue and Preliminary Programme
The OIPEEC conference will be held in the Intercontinental Sandton Sun and Towers, in
the Sandton area of Johannesburg. The Sandton area is known as the business and
economic capital of South Africa and hosts the new Johannesburg Stock Exchange.
The hotel is connected to the largest convention centre in the country and also has
direct access to an extensive shopping and entertainment complex, Sandton City.
Mandela square is also nearby. The venue is easily accessible from Johannesburg
(Oliver Tambo) international airport.

*A Shebeen is an African style, “illegal” bar/drinking place. This can be arranged if there
