How to connect ToolWorks ERP-Link to a database
Important: Make sure that SolidWorks in not running. From the [Start] – [Programs] –
[ToolWorks] select [ToolWorks ERP-Link Settings].
1. Select the connection button to
setup a link to the database
2. Click “New” to create a new
connection
3. Select the type of database you
want to connect and click next. In
this case a Microsoft SQL
database.
If you do not find a driver for your
database, you have to find an
ODBC driver for your database and
install that before trying to connect.

4. Name your connection. In this
case “My Database Connection”.
Click Next.
5. Click Finish.
6. Name your connection. In this
case “My Database Connection”.
Select your server and click Next.
7. Connect to your SQL database using
an account that as minimum can ready
data from your system. Click next.
Since ToolWorks ERP-Link only reads
data, and cannot write data to the
database, you can use the “sa” account,
and the correct password for that.

8. Select the database inside your
Microsoft SQL-Server, and click next.
9. Click Finish
10. Click “Test Data Source…”
11. If you get the message “TESTS
COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY!” you
are ready to go.

12. Select the “My Database
Connection” data source and click “OK”
13. Enter your password for the SQL
database again.
14. Select the table within your database
that contains the components design
data.

15. Define the links between the fields
within your database and the custom
properties within SolidWorks.
The first 5 fields are the ones that you
can use for search criteria’s within
SolidWorks.
16. Define if you want the fields to be
configuration specific or nonconfiguration specific or both within
SolidWorks.
17. If you want connections between
additional fields you can define as many
connections as you need.
18. Start SolidWorks and click
