To Sharece Gash and her family, Truliant Federal Credit Union is truly an amazing
financial institution.
When they married three years ago, Sharece joined accounts with her husband
Chris, who is a Truliant member-owner. She had not used a credit union before.
Truliant’s member-oriented approach made the credit union feel like an extension
of her family – which now includes her two-year-old son, Paul Chris, pictured
above. Sharece is a big fan of Truliant’s flexible Tru2Go App, which allows her to
access her accounts, transfer funds, pay bills, find locations, deposit checks, and
view and activate cash back offers.
But what stands out most is the way Truliant cares for member-owners. “Every
time I go into my branch, I am greeted with: ‘Hello Mrs. Gash. How are you, and
how can we help you today?’” she said. “For them to identify me with a name
shows me they genuinely care… and have built a personal relationship with me.”

Voting in our Board of Directors’ election is open to our
entire membership. Alarmingly, those in the 16-to-35 age
group comprised 25% of eligible voters, but only 7% of
the votes cast. If Truliant is not to be ”your father’s credit

millennial and younger members understand the value of
“owning” their own financial institution. A credit union is a
place that will empower them to make decisions in their
own best interests with their money.

Generally, this age group likes to be a part of something
bigger than themselves and cares for others in their
community. Truliant’s mission to improve member lives,
instead of selling services to make profits, fills that bill
rather well. And because of our low- to no-fee policies
and competitive loans/savings rates, each member
benefits from being a part of Truliant.
So gather ‘round and I’ll tell you a story about a credit
union that improved its members’ lives for 63 years and
beyond, because those who understood its mission paid
that message forward by telling their story.
On the flip side, members and potential members in
these age groups are digitally engaged across a broad
spectrum of activity and less likely to show loyalty to any

It’s hard to read the writing on the wall. Sometimes you have
to write it yourself.
For two years we’ve been charting an important expansion.
It’s one of the largest projects in Truliant’s 63-year history.
By the end of 2016, we will have increased our Member
Financial Center footprint in Charlotte from four to 14. We
know this is welcome news to our members in Mecklenburg
and its surrounding counties.

I’m sure there are some
who will say: Why are you
opening branches? Aren’t brick and mortar locations dead?
Aren’t online and electronic offerings the key to the future?
Why Charlotte? You might not guess that about 20% of
our members live in this area and we’ve been a growing
presence in the city for the past three decades, starting
back when we were AT&T Family Federal Credit Union. From
those early days in the city, we added many of its bestknown employers such as Duke Energy, Coca-Cola Bottling
Co. Consolidated and National Gypsum as Truliant At Work
partners, providing steady growth to our membership.
Well, the future is hard to predict. Mobile and online
banking capabilities have jumped by leaps and bounds at
Truliant, and we continue to make sure we offer all the latest
technological conveniences. But, the personal element of
service can’t be automated. Staying ahead of the curve
digitally shouldn’t cost our members the trusted, personal
advice they expect from our representatives. Our members
still want and will always want guidance to help them make
sound financial decisions to improve their lives.

We don’t want financial institutions to mimic what’s
happened with airlines: consolidation that leads to only a few
major carriers. With the big getting bigger, we don’t want
you to wake up one day with only a handful of choices to

residents of Charlotte to have a choice.

Annual Meeting Reminder
Our 2015 annual meeting will be held Monday, April 27, 2015, at 7 p.m., at our
headquarters at 3200 Truliant Way in Winston-Salem, N.C.
2015 Mini Grant Application Period Starts June 1, 2015
Last year nearly 4,000 online votes were cast in an online crowdsourcing contest to
select 20 nonprofit organizations that would receive a $1,000 Community Mini Grant
from Truliant. Our Mini Grant application process begins again on June 1, 2015. The
program is now in its sixth year and has awarded 170 different community-based
nonprofit organizations a total of $180,000 in funding.
To qualify for grant funding, nonprofit organizations must provide programming
focused on financial literacy, emergency services, building self-sufficiency or youth
