Overview
This sample pack has been put together to introduce centres to the learning resources that support
the NCFE English and Maths qualifications. We have only included examples from one English unit
and one Maths unit here, but centres will receive full packs with one assessment and Mark Scheme
per unit for each level and skill when registering on the NCFE English and Maths qualifications.

Constructing sentences
Time Allowed1 hour
In this test you will be assessed on your ability to:
• Know how to punctuate correctly
• Know how to use implicit and explicit grammatical knowledge when constructing sentences
• Be able to spell words used most often in work, studies and daily life, including familiar
technical words
Candidate instructions:
• Read the questions carefully.
• Write your answers on the test paper. For multiple choice questions, circle the letter of the correct
answer.
At the end of the assessment hand all documents over to the invigilator as instructed.

The swinging sixties were out in force when students at the local secondary school performed their
version of the musical ‘Hairspray’. The cast had special vintage hair and makeup created for them.

Why not make this truly delicious, pink, raspberry jelly that your family will absolutely love. It’s extremely
easy. Break up the jelly into a bowl and add boiling water. As an extra special treat you could add some
juicy fresh raspberries to make it extra fruity and greatly enhance the flavour. Serve it with thick, fresh
cream when cool. You could even sprinkle some flaky chocolate on top to make it even more attractive.
