I would also like to take this opportunity to share some important news for Corpus Christi. After 10 years of priestly ministry and 3 years as pastor of Corpus Christi, this summer I will be leaving Corpus Christi. I spoke with Bishop O’Connell in early February about the possibility of taking a priestly sabbatical and that request was granted. On July 1, I will be leaving and Fr. John Testa will be coming as administrator. My sabbatical will go from July 1 – December 1. For a good portion of that time I will be going to Rome to take part in a program of priestly renewal. I have thought and prayed much about this decision and look forward to this next chapter of life. The past three years have certainly been good years that I hope we can remember with fondness. I hope that, together, we have done some good in building up the body of Christ on earth. I sincerely hope that you welcome Fr. Testa and allow the Lord to see where He wants to bring this community of faith through his leadership. With today being Mother’s Day, and the news of the changing leadership at Corpus Christi, may we place ourselves under the mantle of our heavenly Mother. May she guide and direct our efforts, as we go our separate ways, to lead us closer to her Son and closer to our goal of attaining the glory and joy of eternal life in the kingdom of heaven. We can see that the Lord has inspired hundreds of hours of ministry and millions of dollars of charitable assistance. Many lives have been touched. All of these, and so much more, speak to us of God’s goodness, and we are glad indeed. Our assessments also remind us that there are areas in which we fall short. Change is upon us; and the need to speak the Good News of God’s love in Christ to a broken world is even more urgent. Do not be anxious or fearful about what the future brings. Instead, we must take this moment to rejoice and be glad, O Church, for we know that we are not alone in these efforts. The Lord will guide us; He will renew our strength.
