DESCRIPTION
CHAPTER
Account Settings
Group of settings you can select at the Customer
level, such as security level, sidebar configuration and
others.

Action (Workflow Action)
User-assisted operation performed on a record, such
as status change or sending an email message.

Application
Container concept that includes a group of Tabs,
Objects and other components. User can switch
between Applications while working within Rollbase.
Applications can be published to the Application
Directory.

Application Directory
Place where Applications can be published and
installed into other Customers (i.e. Tenants).

Application XML
XML document that includes all components of an
Application. Can be used to distribute Applications,
bypassing the Application Directory.

Audit Trail
Audit record reflecting an important event related to a
record, Object, or Application. Can be generated by a
Trigger, Field change and other system actions.

Auto-Number (Field)
Field that is automatically populated using an
incremental counter.

Backup
Procedure that generates a ZIP file containing a
snapshot of all your data.

Batch Job
Job that runs periodically for maintenance, backup or
other purposes.

Calendar
Component that displays Events and Tasks (records
of objects with the Event or Task attribute) in daily,
weekly, or monthly views.

Cell (Page Cell)
Smallest element in the Page UI hierarchy. Can
contain a Field, a List View Component and other
Page entities.

Chart
Visual representation of a set of values calculated on
your data, available in standard formats.

Client-Side API
Set of JavaScript functions available for client-side
development. Includes AJAX functions capable of
asynchronously retrieving data from the Rollbase
server.

Communication Log
Historical record automatically generated upon
sending an email. Can be customized.

Conversion Map
Stored mapping information, allowing conversion of
data from one Object record into another of a different
type.

Customer (i.e. Tenant)
Virtual place in the Rollbase Cloud that securely hosts
all of a customer’s applications and data and provides
a working environment for its users.

Customized CSS Stylesheet used for customer

Dependent Picklist
Picklist whose available selections depend on the
current selection in another (Main) picklist.

Document Template
Template to generate documents in HTML, XML, XLS
and other formats.

Event (Calendar)
Object Attribute that holds time and location
information allowing display of a record in the
Calendar component.

External Authentication
Authentication through LDAP or HTTP (POST or

Database which contains non-Rollbase tables along

Field
Single piece of data in an Object. Some Fields allow
direct user input and others are calculated
(dependent). Similar to a column in a database Table.

Filter (Filtering View)
Process of filtering records in a View on the fly,
without changing that view.

Formula
JavaScript expression that includes Template tokens
to be replaced with a record’s data before calculating
the Formula. Formulas have numerous uses in

Gauge
A visual representation of a single value calculated
from your data.

Grid Control
UI component that allows creation and editing of
several related records while editing the main (i.e.
master or parent) record.

Hosted File
Image, text, JavaScript, or other file hosted by
Rollbase. Especially useful in Portal development.
Can be used by reference (through URL) or
embedded into a Template (Formula).

ID
Numeric identifier for records and all application
components (Objects, Fields, Pages etc).

Import (Spreadsheet
Import)
Method to process an uploaded spreadsheet used to
create new records of a certain Object type or update
existing records.

Import Map
Stored mapping information allowing import of
spreadsheet columns into records of a certain Object
type.

Inline Editing
Process of editing the value of a Field from a View
Page using AJAX.

Integration Code
Symbolic code used to identify Picklist Items, Statuses
and Roles in Formulas.

Integration Link
Field Type that generates a template-based URL. Can
be used for quick integration with other web-based
systems.

Integration Name
Symbolic name used in Templates to identify Objects,
Fields, Relationships and other components.

ISV Partner
Rollbase customer with white labeling capabilities. ISV
partners can create and manage their own Customers
(i.e. tenants).

JDBC Driver
Allows desktop client Applications to access the
Rollbase database by wrapping HTTP calls to the
REST server into JDBC protocol.

Combination of three attributes allowing you to model

Lookup
Field representing one side of a Relationship. Allows
selection and display of links to related records.

Template (HTML or plain text) for subject and body of

Name Template
Template that generates a Record name from other
Fields (e.g., “Last Name, First Name”)

New Record Template
Template that allows creation of a new record by
cloning a selected record (and, optionally, dependent
records).

Object (Object
Definition)
Definition for records of a certain type (e.g., Customer
and Invoice). Includes a set of fields and other
components. Similar to a database Table.

Object Attribute
Group of fields that can be added (and deleted) at
once. Attributes often have a special system meaning
(e.g., Contact, Event, Portal Visitor).

Object Script
Powerful type of Rollbase Trigger that runs arbitrary
JavaScript code. Coupled with the Server-Side API it
essentially represents a programming language for
workflow automation.

Original ID
ID of a component (e.g., Object) at the time of
creation. The Original ID will be maintained when the
same component is installed as part of an Application.
By virtue of using Original IDs, Rollbase can
recognize previously installed components during an
Update process.

Page
Configurable set of UI components used to view,
create, edit and delete a record or group of records.
Can be modified using the Page Editor.

WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) AJAXenabled editor used to modify Pages using intuitive
point and clock, drag-and-drop tools.

Permissions
Set of privileges assigned to users for accessing
Applications, Tabs and other entities and for
performing operations on Records: View, Create, Edit
and Delete. Can be assigned by Role, individually per
User, or by Relationship between Users and Records
(ownership).

Picklist
Field that allows users to select one (drop-down
selector) or multiple items per record.

PK-FK relationships
Relationships between external objects based on
Primary Key – Foreign Key fields

Portal
External-facing website within your Customer, used to
capture and display data as part of a corporate or
other website. May optionally use authentication for
Portal Visitors.

Process (Workflow
Process)
Container concept for a group of Workflow statuses
that determine the set of available statuses and the
order in which records can be moved from one status
to the next.

Query API
Rollbase API that allows SQL SELECT queries and
bringing results back to the caller. Available through
client-side, server-side and SOAP APIs.

Quick Create
Process of creating a new record in an AJAX-enabled
popup without leaving the current page.

Production Tenant
Customer used for in a production scenario by an ISV
Partner or Private Cloud instance.

Seed Records
Records attached to an Application and included in
that Application’s published XML. Seed records are
like sample data that is created with an Application
when it is installed.

Server-Side API
Set of JavaScript functions available for server-side
formulas through the rbv_api system variable.

Settings (System
Settings)
Single-record Object in the Rollbase Application used
to set system level properties and attributes available
from anywhere in the system. Fields from Settings are
available in all Templates (regardless of Object). The
Settings Object must be included in your Application
to take advantage of these settings.

Shared Image (Field)
Field type that represents an image (typically small)
that can be used anywhere an image can be
displayed.

Sidebar
UI component on the left side of all Rollbase Pages
(except the Page Editor) that includes several
sections: Applications tree, Calendar and others. Can
be collapsed and configured by an Administrator.

Status (Workflow Status)
Picklist value that has a special meaning for an Object
with the Workflow attribute. The current Status
determines which Workflow Actions available for a

String Tokens
Template tokens which can be translated to foreign
languages and attached to applications

Support Request
Rollbase Users can submit Support Requests to
report bugs or technical difficulties. We recommend
using the Community Forum for general questions.

Tab
Upper level Menu, typically associated with an Object.

Tag
User can assign a keyword (Tag) to a current Record
or group of selected Records. The Tag can then be
used for searching.

Task (Calendar)
Object Attribute that allows assigning a due date to a
record and viewing the record in the Rollbase
Calendar.

Template
Widely used Rollbase concept. Templates include
tokens with a special syntax such as
{!name#link}. At runtime these tokens will be
replaced by actual values from a record or related
records.

Text Search
Ability to search Rollbase records of the selected
Object type, or all Objects, using a text pattern
specified by the user. Only selected fields marked as
“indexed” participate in Text Searches.

Trigger
Key Rollbase concept for programmatic business logic
and workflow automation. Triggers can run on record
creation, update, or deletion. They can perform a wide
range of simple or complex operation such changing a
field value, sending an email, to creating related
records, making external API calls, etc.

Update Application
Process of updating previously installed Applications
in a destination Customer(s).

User
User of the Rollbase Application. Must be
authenticated at login.

View (List View)
Definition for presentation of a list of records. Includes
a set of columns, sorting, filtering and grouping
selection.
