PAGE 4 PP ON THE INTERNET SPECIAL SUPPLEMENT ABOUT THE PPCOC WEBSITE 1. The www.ppcoc.org website has been around for more than 20 years. It was one of the first religious websites in Singapore and for that matter, our brotherhood. In those days, you could only surf the web through a PC as handphones were not internet capable and tablets had not been invented yet. 2. Brother Fun Kok Shing was the IT guy who coded the entire website, with brother Henry working together with him. A bare bones version was later released when it was possible for handphones to surf the web, without any graphic-heavy images. Over the years, many more pages have been added as the website grew in popularity and users from all over the world. 3. Brother Kelvin Koo suggested that we purchase our own unique domain name, ppcoc.org. He paid for it and has been instrumental in helping us with his IT expertise. On many occasions, when our church staff were not able to handle the many intricacies, brother Kelvin provided needed advice. 4. As www.ppcoc.org is one of the most visited websites amongst churches of Christ, search engines have pushed it up to the top of their lists. In fact, there is no need to ever type our full address. Simply typing “ppcoc” will bring up our website on any search engine results page. 5. For our Jubilee year, brother Henry sat down with brother Daniel Goh after this year’s church camp for the massive task of revamping our bloated website. It now has a slick, elegant and easy to navigate drop-down menu. We are now pleased to report that it works with every browser, including the Safari browser on an iPhone or iPad. 6. From time to time, members tell us they cannot reach our website as the server is down or offline. To make sure that users enjoy uninterupted surfing, we now have a mirror site, www.ppcoc.co. Whenever you cannot log onto www.ppcoc.org, simply replace the “org” with “co”, and you will be directed to a functioning site. 7. This month, we added a video section to our website. Go to Resources > Church Videos to enjoy a sampling of videos. More will be added as needed. Deacon Patrick is now the webmaster of both the main website and the mirror site. Brother Henry who started our website is still overseeing it, making sure that it is updated weekly (you should be able to view the Focus newsletter online by Friday afternoon), and that it runs smoothly. We welcome feedback on our website so that we can do better.
