Tertiary Admission Centre (QTAC). Applications are lodged through the QTAC website.
If you miss the application deadline or choose not to apply through QTAC you are welcome to register your interest
with TAFE Queensland East Coast. Please be aware that first preference in this program must be given to QTAC
applicants. Non-QTAC applicants will be offered places subject to availability and meeting minimum entry
requirements.

To be eligible for the Higher Level Skills subsidised price, individuals must;
be aged 15 years or over, and no longer at school
permanently reside in Queensland

Course details
Improve your own quality of life by choosing a rewarding career in nursing. The Diploma of Nursing
(Enrolled/Division 2) at TAFE Queensland East Coast is a nationally recognised course, which provides the
theoretical and practical skills necessary to become an Enrolled Nurse in many health care environments.
You’ll learn how to:
confirm physical health status
apply effective communication skills in nursing practice
implement and evaluate a plan of nursing care
understand the Australian health care system
apply principles of wound management in the clinical environment
administer and monitor medications (including intravenous medication) in the work environment.
This program also includes 400 hours of vocational placement where you will gain hands on experience in a real
hospital setting.
This qualification covers the application of nursing skills and knowledge required to be eligible for enrolment with
Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Career prospects:
On successful completion of this course, participants will be able to apply to AHPRA for registration as an Enrolled
Nurse. AHPRA requires that candidates disclose information regarding criminal history. For more information go to

Nursing Qualification awarded overseas. It is recommended that any prospective participant who holds a
Nursing qualification gained from an International School of Nursing, contact AHPRA to discuss their Queensland
nursing registration or enrolment prior to contacting TAFE Queensland East Coast.

Placement is arranged by TAFE and although TAFE endeavours to place you in a facility close to home, there are

your own accommodation. Please also note that Immunisation against Hepatitis B is mandatory requirement before
undergoing vocational placement in a Queensland health facility.

Entry requirements
Mandatory: Not applicable
Recommended: Completion of year 12 (or equivalent) or have relevant experience and/or qualifications that
indicates likely success in completing the course.
AHPRA Registration Requirements
After successful completion of this course you will be required to register with AHPRA to enable you to work in the
industry as and Enrolled Nurse, a requirement of registration is students need to have a minimum of 5 years
(18mth Diploma included in this 5years) of combined secondary and/or vocational and/or tertiary education
taught and assessed in English. If you do not meet these requirements you will be required to sit an English
language test. It is recommended that if you have disclosable outcomes recorded on your Federal Police Check
that you contact APHRA to determine your eligibility to register as an Enrolled Nurse prior to enrolling.
English Language Level
Students from non-English speaking backgrounds: Minimum Academic IELTS overall score of 6.0 with no
individual band under 5.5. Applicants should note that on successful completion of the Diploma of Nursing, before
a licence to practice as a nurse is issued, the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) requires
an overall IELTS score of 7.0, with a minimum band 7.0 in Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking.
You must bring the following to orientation:
Australian Federal Police Check, you will need provide a copy of your police clearance or evidence the
process has commenced
A copy of your immunisation status. You must be immunised against Hepatitis B, Mumps and Rubella
(MMR), Varicella Zoster virus (Chicken Pox) and Pertussis (whooping cough). It is recommended you also
have Poliomyelitis, Hep A, Tuberculosis and an annual influenza vaccine
Blue Card, it is mandatory for all nursing students to complete a working with children check. You will
complete your Blue Card application during orientation and TAFE Queensland East Coast will send it on your
behalf.

TAFE Queensland East Coast regularly updates programs to ensure the latest training package is offered. In doing

as soon as it is feasible.
