Ronnie and Cindy Mullins did a great job teaching some West Coast Swing steps, including right side pass, rim push (variation of the sugar push), and the whip. During the break, Larry May and Louise McCoy presented the final two Dancers Choice Awards. Anita Barrett received The Best Female Smooth Dancer award, and David Kraut received the Best Male Smooth Dancer award. A number of other recipients were in attendance. Congratulations to all of the Dancers Choice Award winners this year. Tony Rimkus provided the great dance music for the evening including several opportunities to practice the West Coast Swing steps the Ronnie and Cindy taught us. As dancers, we are lucky to have the great D. J.’s who provide varied and interesting dance music at all our dances. If you particularly enjoy the music for the evening, we encourage you to let the D.J. know. Everyone enjoys getting a compliment and being appreciated. Our next dance at Arbor Hall will be on Saturday, October 11th. Ted & Terry Wagner will teach a Waltz group class beginning at 7:30 until 8:15PM. General dancing begins at 8:15 until 11:00 PM. John Bramhall will do the musical honors for the evening. Hope to see you there. Don Kanipe Swing ‘n’ Sway October 11 Dance Lesson in Waltz taught by Ted & Terry Wagner Ted & Terry Wagner took their first ballroom dance class in 1961 and have never looked back. They started teaching American Style social ballroom to groups in 1963 and continue to teach private and small group lessons weekly. They own and operate the Wagner Dance Studio in New Bremen, Ohio as well as they sponsoring and D.J.ing dances in the New Bremen area. Ted & Terry are well known dance teachers and are a popular dance couple. They have participated in Dance Fair over the years. The Ohio Star Ball is pleased to announce the return of the long-running PBS hit America’s Ballroom Challenge. This November, America’s best professional ballroom dancers will take center stage at the Ohio Star Ball in Columbus, and once again Moreno/Lyons Productions will be there to capture it all for PBS. For two days, cameras will roll as worldclass couples cha-cha, samba, waltz and tango their way to the top. America’s Ballroom Challenge will take viewers onto the dance floor and behind the scenes as ballroom’s elite go toe-to-toe for the title of “America’s Best.” Aida Moreno, creator of the show, will return to record the 2014 event as a three-hour series, shot in High Definition at one of the world’s largest ballroom dancing competitions. “It’s very exciting to see real ballroom dance competition returning to mainstream American culture, and we’re thrilled to showcase the very best competitors in this art form,” says Ms. Moreno. Each of the series’ first two programs will highlight two of the four major styles of competitive ballroom dancing: American Smooth, American Rhythm, International Ballroom and International Latin. The six finalists in each style will first compete as a group, performing the standard dances in their category, with expert judges scoring their performances. Then the dancers will have a real opportunity to shine, with each couple performing a Showdance solo with all eyes on them alone. In the third and final program of America’s Ballroom Challenge, the champions in the four dance styles will compete in a “Best of Show” Grand Finale, with each couple performing a pull-out-all-the-stops solo. Only one will be named “America’s Best.” “I’m pleased that PBS is continuing the tradition of showcasing America’s best ballroom dancers and that, once again, the Ohio Star Ball will be the site for the recordings,” says event organizer Sam Sodano. Taped November 21 and 22 at the Ohio Star Ball, America’s Ballroom Challenge will be broadcast on PBS in early 2015. Check your local listings for the exact date and time in your area.
