About Concordia College
Concordia College is situated in Highgate, an established eastern suburb of the city of Adelaide, South Australia. Set in a safe and
attractive environment, away from main roads, the College is five minutes’ drive from the city’s Central Business District.
Originally established in 1890 at Murtoa, Victoria, Concordia moved to its present Highgate site in 1905, operating under the South
Australian District Synod of the Lutheran Church of Australia. It has developed into a highly respected Christian co-educational
secondary college in Adelaide that operates as a member of the Lutheran Schools Association in SA/NT and WA
Concordia College works very closely with St John’s Lutheran School, Highgate. A single School Council has governance
responsibilities for both schools and Council subcommittees oversee Governance, Education, Property, Spiritual Life and Finance
at both schools. A memorandum of understanding with St John’s Lutheran Church Unley has been developed.
The College offers the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) in Years 7-10 and the South Australian
Certificate (SACE) and IB Diploma Programme in Years 11 and 12. The IB Primary Years Programme operates at St John’s
Lutheran School. All these curriculum frameworks promote student-centred learning and the development of independent learning
skills designed to equip young people with life-long qualities that extend beyond the classroom into the community. Many school
organised service activities support this process.
The ongoing development of Middle and Senior Schooling and the continuing exploration of new ways to use digital technologies in
support of student learning are important components of the Strategic Plan of the College. Since the beginning of the 2012 school
year, all students have had their own laptop. Current enrolment is approximately 860 students from Years 7 – 12.
Concordia College today is a thriving, dynamic, forward-looking community that learns and lives according to the College’s motto:
firm in principle, gentle in manner.
