Vice Captain, Zoe Crane received the Tweed Shire Council – ‘Kids in Community’ (KIC) award for “Protecting our Planet”. This award recognises youth in the Tweed Shire who advocate and/or act to enhance our physical environment. This was a wonderful achievement for Zoe who, through the Max Potential program, worked with a community based volunteer project. The project was centred around creating awareness and education about climate change and its impact on our planet. The guest speaker was business strategist Mr Scott Groves. Students learnt of the importance of setting goals, how to identify hidden assets - both physical and intellectual - within a business, and the importance of online marketing. Afterwards, Mr Groves spent time answering our students’ questions in what was a very informative morning. Thanks are extended to Mr Scott Groves, “Business Excellence” facilitator Mr John Hurd and Mr Tony Worrad who kindly subsidised our students’ participation in this event. Private and group lessons are available at Lindisfarne through our visiting instrumental specialists. Lessons are 30 minutes and take place on a rotation roster to ensure that students who come out of class to attend their lessons don’t miss the same subject each week. Timetables for lessons are posted on studio windows at the beginning of each term. Our visiting specialists are experienced and encourage students to achieve their best, either through popular or classical styles. Students are encouraged to complete AMEB and Trinity examinations once they have attained suitable levels. If you are interested in your child learning strings, woodwind, brass, piano, drums, singing, speech & drama or piano and would like more information, please feel free to contact Tina Ross at the Sunshine Avenue campus or Lucie Schuricht at the Mahers Lane campus. Alternately you may wish to contact the studio teacher directly. Their contact numbers are listed below. Oliver and his National Squad teammates won their first game against their Malaysian hosts, after the HSC English paper! Michaela Bryant and Kendra Fitzpatrick. The girls played for the Queensland Embers and Queensland Cinders last week in the National U13 Women’s Hockey Tournament held in Brisbane. Michaela was vice captain and Kendra captain of their respective teams. Queensland opted to put in two equal squads whereas all the other major states graded their teams, but the gamble paid off. Michaela’s Embers didn’t lose a game. They conceded only one goal all tournament, against eleven other teams, and they drew in points with NSW State team. One goal difference, they finished second in Australia, with Kendra’s team third. overseas in their sports. Sam competed in the World Surf Lifesaving Championships held in France and reached the finals of flags, line throw and beach sprint. His team was the red-hot favourite for the Relay but unfortunately one of the men pulled his hamstring in the semi-finals. Alex travelled to Kona to compete in the Hawaiian Ironman – World Championships. He finished a sensational sixteenth in his age category. AFL Mr and Mrs Bedford, along with three Year 10 students and various Lindisfarne parents, have been training hard every Wednesday after school for the two day AFL 9’s competition held at Byron Bay this weekend. Teams came from all over Australia, making the competition fierce! Under the sensational guidance of Mr Bedford the team advanced to the grand final - narrowly going down by one goal! Attached is a photo of Kendra and Michaela with Madonna Blyth the Hockeyroos captain and Queensland State captain. The AHL was at the same time and venue as the U13 Women’s. The older girls, including Madison and Savannah Fitzpatrick, supported and helped to coach and mentor the younger players. Rugby 7’s Lily Dick has been chosen to represent NSW at Rugby 7’s. She has been training throughout the holiday. Lily also played in the Queensland Rugby All Schools State Cup 7’s carnival at TSS over the weekend. She was part of a combined team made up of players from the Reds Squad whose school did not enter a team. Many of the players in the Queensland Development Squad were playing in their school teams. Lily’s team was a good combination, as they won 5 out of the 6 games before their semi to make the final. The only game they lost in the prelims was to Clontarf Beach High. They met Clontaff Beach High School again in the final (a team who had not been beaten in three years), and won an amazing 19-0. Congratulations to all the teachers, parents and students for a sensational effort.
