What we do... Point to the Lord Jesus, with Bibles open, in the power of the Holy Spirit The results we look for... Loving fellowships of committed believers, worshipping God together, seeking to reconcile people to Christ, to mature them in Him, to involve them in service to one another and the world. I remember once being asked what I thought was something that was key to being on mission in my home, family, workplace and community. The answer was the same for each, PRAYER. If prayer is not a key to a Christian life on mission to those around them, then the focus has shifted and it reflects our desire to be in control of the situation. This means I will focus on having a perfectly constructed argument for all occasions and if not, then I will find one. Instead what we need to do is come before our great God and pray for miracles, open ears and open hearts. This is handing over control of the situation to God. This may sound scary for some, but this is the way God wants it to be and how it is meant to be, so we need to let God be God. So here are 3 things that we can be doing together as we make prayer key not only for mission but for our life in Christ: 1. Get together with people to pray about life, church, being on mission and asking big things from God. And doing this regularly. 2. Pray with people whenever or wherever, don't put it off. It is by far more encouraging to have someone pray for you there and then, that say they'll pray for you later (especially if you are prone to forget). 3. Offer to bring prayer needs to our Christian community. A helpful way forward: when unbelievers talk of problems, we will say things like: ‘Would you like me to pray with you?’; ‘I’ll ask my church to pray about that’ We can also ask people a follow-up question: ‘We’ve been praying for you; what’s the news?’ I hope you find this encouraging. In Christ, Jai McMordie Prayer The Collect Lord, give your people grace to withstand the temptations of the world, the flesh, and the devil, and with pure hearts and minds to follow you the only God; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Diocesan Prayer Almighty God, we call upon you for such an outpouring of your Holy Spirit upon us, that we as your people may be assured of your love through your word, seek to please the Saviour in all things, manifest the godly life and be filled with prayerful and sacrificial compassion for the lost in the entire world. In the name of our Saviour Jesus Christ, Amen Pray for our Synod Reps Please be in prayer for our 2 new Synod representatives, Glenda Devlin, Trevor Cutmore and Bp David Mulready, as they attend the final 2 days of sittings of the 50th Synod on Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st October with afternoon and evening sittings on each of these 2 days. The year has gone very quickly, but it has given us good opportunities for meeting with missionaries who are about to go on the mission field, or who are already serving God cross culturally in various parts of the world. Thank you for your support in encouraging churches to look outside of their ministries to the wider mission field. CMS missionaries are thankful for, and depend on the support and encouragement from people at home. For your information and prayer support Prepare for ASCC’s car boot sale! Wendy Wilcox (well-known to many of us) has gone to South Sudan (she left Australia on 1/10) to volunteer as a nurse at a hospital that is run by a mission organisation. The hospital caters for women and children and is located in the small southern city of Yei. The purpose of the hospital is to provide medical support to women and children in South Sudan to reduce morbidity and mortality, especially around childbirth and the early life of the infant. The staff working at the hospital do all of this being compelled by the love of Christ and wanting to share this in their action as well as words. She has set up a blog so that you can keep in up to date with her life, work and be encouraged to pray for her over the next 2.5 months. The blog address is salaamfromyei.wordpress.com Saturday 29th November All Saints' Community Care is planning a car boot sale again this year in the church car park. Now is a good time to start looking around for those bits and pieces cluttering up your garage or spare room, and setting them aside to go out at the car boot sale. More details will be available closer to the date. Scripture Reading in Church Part 'B' session will be held in Church today from 11.30am to 12.30pm and will be repeated from 3pm - 4pm. Gilbert.
