Thank you to everyone for your support and well wishes in relation
to my formal commissioning as Principal this week. I am incredibley
humbled and feel remarkably blessed to be given the opportunity
to lead the EAC community. Our students have great enthusiasm
for the opportunities to learn and grow that come their way each
day, the staff are passionate, committed and deeply caring and
the parents and friends of the College are wonderfully generous
and supportive. I am so proud of the College and look forward with
great anticipation to all that unfolds in my time as Principal.
When speaking at Chapel this morning I reminded all our students of the great gift and privilege that they enjoy as
students of the College. I spoke briefly of Malala Yousafzai , the 17 girl who was awarded this year’s Nobel Peace Prize
for her efforts, in the face of enormous adversity, to promote the rights of all people to access education. As young people
who enjoy the safety and freedom of our great nation and who have the opportunity to attend school and learn they have a
great responsibility to use that gift wisely. I encouraged them to take every opportunity to learn and grow, to build positive
relationships and make all people feel welcome, valued, included and respected and to develop a strong relationship
with God and draw on that to develop values and a strength of character that will serve them well. Together we all have
a responsibility to make a better world for all people and make the dreams of courageous people like Malala Yousafzai
a reality.
The College also reached a really significant milestone this week, with the enrolment from Kindergarten to Year 12
surpassing 500 students for the first time in our young history. Congratulation to all who make up our community, this is
a wonderful confirmation of the great things that are happening at EAC.
There are a couple of very significant individual student achievements I would like to highlight as well
this week. Congratulations to Josh Mumford in Year 7 who was placed fourth at the NSW All Schools
Athletics Championships in the 13’s 1500 metres. This is a wonderful
achievement for Josh.
You may also have seen a great story on NBN news last week and in
The Northern Star about Year 9 student Kyle Underwood. Kyle was
named the North Coast Academy of Sport Athlete of the Year for his efforts in the game
of golf. Kyle has been under the expert training and direction of the Academy for some
time now and his game has developed immensely. In being awarded this honour both
his level of skill and his attributes as an ambassador to the game have been recognised.
Kyle is also the recipient of the Newton Golf Titleist/Footjoy Scholarship which is
designed to support his future development in the game. Congratulations to Kyle.

Congratulations Max Williams
Max Williams has been selected as a finalist in the Yrs 9-10 student category in the Doug Moran Prize for contemporary
photography. This competition is one of the most prestigious photography competitions in Australia. We wish him all the
best in the competition.
Yr 11 Parent and Teacher and HSC Information Evening
We look forward to seeing all our Year 11 students and their parents this Thursday. Parent and Teacher interviews are being
held in the library from 3.30 – 5.20pm and the information session will run from 5.30pm.
Warmer weather
With the weather warming up I’d like to remind you that hats must be worn at all times to and from the College, during
outdoor lessons, and during breaks. It is also important that students are drinking enough water during the day. As well as
drinking from our water bubblers it is a good idea to pack a drink in lunch boxes.
Europe Trip
A wonderful group of 14 student and 6 parents were lucky enough to travel to London, Ypres, Paris, Sorrento and Rome
together. We landed in London at about lunchtime on the first Monday of the holidays and hit the ground running – after
dropping our bags at the hotel we didn’t stop walking until we reached Brisbane on the last Sunday of the holidays. Every
day was a new adventure and we crossed many cultures and periods of history on our tour, from Shakespearean times at
the Globe Theatre, to World War I on the Western Front, Pompeii and Ancient Rome. It was awe inspiring to walk on roads
and into homes that were over 2000 years old. We also fit in quite a bit of shopping and eating! Our tour guide, Elisabetta,
was lovely and kept us all heading in the same direction. Over the 2 weeks, with all that time spent together, many strong
bonds were formed. There was not one complaint about tiredness, being hungry or not having wifi. During the entire trip we
only lost one metro ticket, one travel pillow...and Mr McDonnell at the Vatican. It was a fabulous trip and I really encourage
people to consider being involved in one of the trips we have in the future.

Australian Mathematics Competition Results
In August a small group of highly capable mathematicians entered the Australian Mathematics Competition. This competition
poses a series of very complex problem solving questions. The following students gained awards:

Congratulations to all the secondary students who attended the CIS athletics Carnival on the last Wednesday of Term 3.
We had some outstanding results with students from the College achieving 4 medals: Sarah Norton 1st 18 years AWD shot
put, Joshua Mumford 1st 13 Years 1500M, 3rd 13 years 800m and Scott Fleming 3rd 14 years 800m
Secondary All Schools Athletics
Last week Joshua Mumford from Year 7 attended Secondary All Schools for Athletics in the 1500m. He made it through
the heats to achieve 4th

What parents have said…
A step dad recalled an incident at the weekend with his 12 year
old step daughter. He said that the input he had received the
previous week from the course helped him keep his cool and
brought a more favourable outcome.
A single Mum who had presented as quite anxious on the first
night told the group in week 2 that she had made an
appointment with her 15 year old son during the week and had
had a far more favourable discussion with him than would
previously have been the case.
