WELCOME/ANNOUNCEMENTS
PRELUDE
CHORAL INTROIT
New Year
MENDELSSOHN
Lord, God, thou art our salvation evermore. E’en before the mountains formed,
and the earth and all the world was first created, thou art God for evermore,
world without end. Alleluia.
CALL TO WORSHIP
Psalm 90
One: Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations.
All:
Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, so that we may
rejoice and be glad all our days.
One: Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the
earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
All:
Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and prosper the work
of our hands – O prosper the work of our hands!
One: Let us worship God!
OPENING PRAYER
The works of our hands are gifts of your mercy, O God, and everything we have is
a sign of your love. If we have strength, it is because you uplift us; when we have
joy, it is on account of your grace. We praise you when you comfort us. We are
afraid when you judge us in anger. With Christ to intercede, accept now our
worship. May it be worthy of the care you show us. Amen.
*HYMN #430
Come Sing, O Church, in Joy!
DARWALL’S 148th
LITANY CONFESSION
One: We are taught to love you, O God, with all of our heart.
All:
We confess that our allegiance is less than complete.
One: We are taught to love you, O God, with all of our soul.
All:
We confess that we long to have our own way.
One: We are taught to love you, O God, with all of our mind.
All:
We confess that our thoughts are seldom so pure.
One: We are taught to love our neighbors, as we love ourselves.
All:
One:
All:
We confess preference for ourselves being first.
God have mercy upon us as we make our confession.
Christ have mercy upon us and forgive our sin.
(Time of Silent Personal Confession)
THE KYRIE
Kyrie Eleison
Lord, have mercy upon us, Christ, have mercy upon us, Lord, have mercy upon us.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
In Christ the “fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him God was
pleased to reconcile . . . all things, . . . making peace through the blood of his cross.”
Know that in Christ you have been reconciled so that through him you are
presented holy and blameless to God. Therein lies our assurance of pardon. Amen.
*GREETINGS AND SHARING THE PEACE OF CHRIST
Since God has affirmed us in Jesus Christ, we have also been made brothers and
sisters, then let us joyfully welcome one another for we are in our Lord’s house.
The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. And also with you.
*GLORIA PATRI #579
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the
beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE & THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come,
thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us
not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the
power and the glory forever. Amen.

THE RESPONSE TO THE WORD
*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The Apostles’ Creed (Ecumenical)
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in
Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the power of the
Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was
crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he
rose again; he ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy
Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of
sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
*HYMN #442
The Church's One Foundation
PRESENTATION OF TITHES AND OFFERINGS
In response to the love of God in Jesus Christ, let us return the offerings of our
life and the gifts of the earth. Give as you have made up your heart, mind, not
reluctantly or under compulsion, but to the glory of God.
Please put the completed friendship sheet in the offering plate
during the offering portion of the service.
OFFERTORY
If With All Your Hearts from Elijah
MENDELSSOHN
Jason Bachman, tenor soloist
Recitative: Ye people, rend your hearts, Rend your hearts, and not your garments
for your transgressions the prophet Elijah has sealed the heavens through the word
of God. I therefore say to ye, Forsake your idols, return to God; for He is slow to
anger, and merciful, and kind, and gracious, and repenteth Him of the evil.
Aria: “If with all your hearts ye truly seek me, ye shall ever surely find me.” Thus
saith our God.
Oh! That I knew where I might find Him, that I might even come before His presence!
*DOXOLOGY #592
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heav’nly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
*OFFERTORY PRAYER
O God, you call us as stewards to take care of your creation. As we till its soil,
help us also to replenish and nurture the earth. As we sow seeds for tomorrow’s
crops, teach us the meaning of patience and hope. As we reap the harvest,
guide us to see that all your people are fed. Amen.

PER CAPTIA: We are continuing to ask for a voluntary contribution from members
to offset the denominational per capita assessment for each member of a church.
The total for 2014 is $28.69 per person. Simply make a check out to Pleasant Ridge
Presbyterian Church for the amount you are able to give and note “Per Capita” on
the memo line to differentiate the contribution from your regular pledge. We
thank you for your continued support for the Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church,
The Presbytery of Cincinnati, The Synod of the Covenant, and The General
Assembly of the PC (USA).
THEOLOGY @ THE MOVIES: The Rev.s Edward Goode and Amy Snow will be
holding joint Theology @ the Movies discussions with any interested participants
from their congregations on Wednesday, October 29th at 6:30pm at the
Presbyterian Church of Wyoming. Wednesday night dinner will be served starting
at 5:30 and if you wish to join in the meal before the movie discussion please let
Pastor Amy know: [email protected] or leave a note in her box.
The movie being discussed will be Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013) PG-13.
Ken McWhorter will be showing the movie at PRPC on Oct. 26th at 3:30pm for
those who wish to participate at that time. The movie is also available through
Netflix, Amazon streaming, and the Cincinnati Public Library if you wish to watch
the movie on your own before the discussion on the 29th.
The movies for the upcoming months will be:
November: Cry the Beloved Country (1995) PG-13
January: Invictus PG-13
February: Cry Freedom (1987) PG
March: TBD
April: TBD
We will meet at Molly Malone’s on Friday November 21st to discuss Cry the
Beloved Country with members of both congregations. A showing date and time
has yet to be determined.
GROWING BOLDER: Nov. 12th 11am-1pm Kemper Room. Are you dreading
downsizing? Are you wondering if the time is right? Do you just want to get more
organized? We will hear from professional organizer Karen Donorovich about ways
to purge without pain. Come with your questions and we will have a great
discussion. We will be serving a simple lunch of salad, soup and bread. Please RSVP
631-9707 ext 103 so we have enough for everyone! Pastor Amy and Emily Morgan
facilitating.
MONTHLY COMMUNION: We are looking for more volunteers with serving
communion on the first Sunday of each month. Anyone who has been ordained
either a Deacon or an Elder is eligible to serve. Communion has been served by
intinction because it requires fewer volunteers, but would like to begin serving in
the pews again. Emails will be sent to elders and deacons a few weeks before the
next Communion Sunday each month to request volunteers for serving. We would
appreciate some help. If you are only comfortable serving a certain way, please
reply with specificity. We will definitely need extra help on the next Communion
nd
Sunday (November 2 ). Please let Beau or Allison McGrath know if you are
available to help out.
PEACEMAKING OFFERING: Contributions to the Peacemaking Offering are still
being received. Your gifts will be used to promote peace and justice efforts locally
and around the world. Envelopes are in the pew racks. Thank You!
HORIZONS BIBLE STUDY: All are welcome to join a monthly scripture study on the
first Wednesday of each month at 10AM in the Kemper Room, September through
April. The scripture study is based on Paul’s writings in the second letter to the
Corinthian church, in which he deals with aspects of faith such as grace,
forgiveness, image of God and reconciliation. For a copy of the study book ($6) or
for more information please contact Tiffany Zents at [email protected] or by
calling the church office.
FELLOWSHIP/COFFEE HOUR HOSTS are needed on Sunday morning to prepare the
punch and donut holes. Two slots are open, one four times a year and one six
times a year. If you could help out, please contact Deb McWhorter at 351-8672 or
[email protected].
TUTORS NEEDED FOR TEAM WORKS! If you are interested in participating in our
mission outreach with Pleasant Ridge Montessori, we would love to have you!
Individuals interested tutoring will need to fill out a CPS Volunteers Tutor
Application available online at www.cycyouth.org/help/volunteer-signup-form/.
Prospective tutors must now attend a CPS training as well. For questions regarding
the tutor application process, volunteers may also contact Dara Jenkins, Districtwide Resource Coordinator for Tutoring & After School directly, at 513-363-0569
or [email protected]. For information on participating in TEAM Works program,
please contact Tiffany Zents.

Saturday, November 15 from 10-2. Many of the same booths will be back including

pizza, bean soup and cornbread. More help is needed in the kitchen. There is still
time to make some American Girl Doll clothes or do some sewing or knitting.
The Antiques and Collectibles Booth could use more nice jewelry. If you’d like to
donate some, please call JoAnn Ruff at 561-7208.
