Pitching Competition Background Prior to presentation of the Pearcey Award a Pitching Competition will be held where researchers at Universities spruik their business plans and ideas before a panel of industry judges and a savvy audience of technology movers and shakers. The competition is designed to introduce participants to the dynamics of pitching and hitting the key messages for investors, distributors, and customers. Judging Process Each competitor will have three minutes to make their pitch and may use audio visual, e.g. PowerPoint slides in their presentation. Competitors will present to the Pearcey Awards event guests and a panel of judges. Competitors will design and deliver their presentation on the basis that the audience consists of potential investors, distributors and customers. Judging Criteria Each competitor’s presentation will be judged on the following four elements: 1. Clarity of idea/concept a. What is it? b. What does it do? c. Where does it fit? d. Who will use it? (not “how it works”!) 2. Articulation of benefit a. Benefit to who? b. Benefit in what form? c. Cost of benefit? 3. Understanding of Market a. Who will invest and why? b. What’s out there already? c. What’s in the pipeline that will challenge and when will this arrive? 4. Presentation quality a. Message clarity b. Effectiveness and efficiency of overall presentation c. AV if used supported/enhanced presentation overall d. Summing up 5. X Factor a. Wow! b. Surprise! c. Energy! d. Passion!
