Go to our Homepage: www.leavenworthchristian.com October 23, 2014 Vol. 66 No 43 If you have not noticed it yet, please drive by the north side of the church and take a look at the new retaining wall. The old one was slowly falling onto the sidewalk and was sadly in need of replacement. The new wall was paid for with memorial funds and built by Leavenworth Lansing Nursery. It looks great! Of course, the area is kind of empty just now. We hope that in the spring all of you gardeners out there will volunteer to help replant the flowers and shrubs that will make it beautifully bloom. Please call the church if you would like to be a part of this ministry. We will include you as a gardener and add our blessings to your work in the spring. Also, if you would like to design a plan for the garden, the property ministry would love to see it. We can rejoice at the renewal of this portion of our grounds. In This Issue Pg 2: Lines from Lynn Pg 3: Petitions Pg 4: Announcements Pg 5: More Announcements Pg 6: FCC Info/Birthdays Pg 7: FCC Calendar Lines from Lynn An unfair question- ‘Do you feel older?’ can be laughed at or answered in many ways. To someone turning six or sixteen or even sixty, that may be a fun question to answer. To most of us it isn’t. Older may not necessarily be better, or come with added benefits. Years ago I played golf with a man who not only could “shoot his age” but also could appreciate the joys of youth. He enjoyed simple games with children- his own grandchildren and other youth in the church. He “acted his age” by laughing and enjoying life with those his own age- and with children. He often said that he had plenty of money and didn’t need a “senior discount” but wished they had given him a discount when he was trying to raise his family with far less income than his present situation. He was a joy to be around, a devoted person, and whether it was work or play- he did it with gusto. We can choose to live life to the fullest or we can choose to just watch. When it comes to the Christian life the same is sort of true, or is it? We are called to love God and neighbor, which take a certain amount of involvement on our part. What does it mean to be a member of the church? Is it about having your name written on a piece of paper someplace or is it about sharing in prayer, and worship, and ministry to others, making a contribution of self, as well as money, to advance service to God and sharing God’s love with others? Are we a joy to be around and do we live our life in Christ with a gusto which displays God’s love? God’s love doesn’t “get old”, nor does it wear out, go out of warrantee or diminish. Although, how we do it and which tees we hit from (“senior tees” make the course shorter for those of advanced age- which I haven’t yet reached), may change or be modified, our hearts of love and our desire to serve must be just like God’s love for us. What and how and where may change, but why stays the same- we love because God loved us first.
