Bev took over the reins from Paul Thompson four years ago and at the Youth Theatre’s AGM on 17th May formally handed over her title to Julie Scott who has been Secretary of the Youth Theatre for many years. Bev is not leaving the Youth Theatre altogether and will now serve as a member of the Youth Theatre Committee. Julie is looking forward to her new and challenging role. As well as holding the position of Youth Theatre Secretary she is one of our regular props team for both the Theatre Company and the Youth Theatre. She is also no stranger to the Board of Directors and attends all Board Meetings as a representative of the Youth Theatre. This 1955 black comedy stars Alec Guinness, Peter Sellers and Herbert Lom and was the last of the great Ealing Studio comedies. ‘Posing as a string quintet, a gang of thieves use an old lady's lodging room as a hideaway. But they reckon without the indomitable lady herself.’ Sit back and relax in the authentic period setting of this grand old Cinema and enjoy ‘The Movies’ on the big screen the way they should be viewed! Tickets £5 www.phtheatre.co.uk or just come along on the night. 7.30 start. OK! Who’s Got It? David Miller, our resident Stage Manager, is threatening to resign his position if his precious black and gold Guinness mug is not returned soon. David was presented with his beloved mug by fellow Theatre volunteer David White in order that he might live the dream and imagine he was drinking Guinness not just black coffee (he’s so busy at the Theatre he doesn’t have much time to go to the pub). Now his most prized possession has gone missing and instead of dressing and cleaning the stage he keeps looking for his mug and we need him to resume his normal duties. David is insisting that his brew just doesn’t taste the same in any other receptacle and he is about to take his bat and ball home. Come on, own up, who’s got it? Editors note: David, have you looked in the workshop? It may be in there with paint brushes soaking in it! Saturday 27th June at 7.30 pm The Leader Times Stage Awards, sponsored by Howard Rigg, will celebrate it’s 26th Anniversary this year. It certainly doesn’t seem 26 years since the idea of Pendle’s very own Oscar ceremony was first introduced. The thespians of Pendle are thrilled when they receive a nomination and we are happy to report that some of the people who have received the coveted Awards during those 26 years have gone on to fame and fortune. On 27th June 2015 the prestigious silverware will be presented to the best productions and performers who have graced the local stage in the last 12 months. Not just productions that have taken place at the Hippodrome Theatre but throughout the whole of Pendle. Several of our local Theatrical Companies will take part and will present extracts from their productions over the past year and previews from those yet to come. Eric Beardsworth and Stuart James of Pendle Hippodrome Theatre Company will again compere the show. The nominations for the Awards will be announced in the Nelson Leader/Colne Times the week before the Awards Night. Please Note: Other Awards connected directly with Pendle Hippodrome Theatre will not be listed in the newspaper. Tickets are £6 and can be purchased at the Box Office every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 10 am to 1 pm and any night at ‘’The Vicar of Dibley’. They will be available on the door or at Discover Pendle, Boundary Mill Stores Colne and online at www.phtheatre.co.uk. See page 2 for full booking details. Note: Only seats in the stalls are available to book as the circle is reserved for performers. On 4th September at 7.00 pm the Friends of the Hippodrome are invited to attend the unveiling of plaques to commemorate recent bequests to the Hippodrome Theatre and the loss of some of the much loved members of the Hippodrome community. This will be followed at 7.30pm by the latest screening in our season of Classic Heritage films. Tickets for the event will be included with Friends next Footlight Forum but please make a note in your diaries to ensure you do not miss this special Friends of the Hippodrome event. It is with sadness that we report the death of Harold Thomas Frankland 1st May 2015 Aged 80 Years Har o l d wa s o n e of t he Hippodrome Theatre’s esteemed Bar Staff until his recent illness prevented him from carrying out his duties. He had served the Theatre in several fields both as one of our Bar Managers and as a past Treasurer of Pendle Hippodrome Youth Theatre. He was first introduced to St John’s AO&DS by his wife Kathleen many years ago and our sincere condolences go to Kathleen and all Harold’s family and Friends. He will be sorely missed by everyone at The Hippodrome. 14 3 WWI Got In The Way! One hundred and one years ago WWI broke out in Europe and beyond. Now you may be thinking ‘What on earth has that to do with anything, especially the Hippodrome?’. Well last year Pendle Hippodrome joined in Colne’s commemorations for this epic event and you may recall that our stage was transformed into a First Aid Clearing Station and our Orchestra Pit into a WWI trench with all the sounds and effects of a Battle Field. The event was a huge success with over 600 people visiting the Theatre to see our tableaux and re-enactments but it took a The WWI huge amount of time to construct and the annual shut down jobs Commemorations scheduled for 2014 were sadly never completed. As you will have read in the Theatre’s Annual report there is always something going on at the Theatre even when it is closed for the Summer. In fact usually more goes on in the ‘Close Down’, than at any other time of the year but last year it did not include all the ‘planned’ jobs. This year the Theatre will close on 18th July and re-open on 4th September. Wardrobe and props hire departments will also be closed. The last hire date is Monday 20th July at 7.00 pm and it will reopen on Monday 7th September 7.00 pm. This year (postponed from last year!) the major task being undertaken is to connect a new electricity supply to the stables. Many other tasks, large and small will be undertaken including a big clean up, not just wiping down the sinks and the mirrors but getting to grips with the bigger cleaning jobs like the cobwebs on the roof of the auditorium which I am reliably informed ‘you can swing on’. Each year we ask the same question. Will you, yes we mean YOU, please give up a precious few hours of your time and come and lend a hand at the Theatre during the Summer Close Down? There’s so much to catch up on (2 years work in-fact) and the more people who come along the more will get done. Everyone likes to perform on stage or attend the Theatre but if it’s not maintained and kept clean and tidy there won’t be a Theatre to go to or perform in! We desperately need help. If you have any spare time please give Keith Walton a ring on 01282 605538 or see him at the Theatre and he will let you know what the plans are and how you can join in. You don’t have to be skilled in any particular field as full instructions will be given. You don’t have to be a member of the Theatre, Friend of the Hippodrome or Theatre Company, willing hands are welcome from any source and your help will be gratefully appreciated. You don’t even have to bring your own tools or dusters as everything needed will be provided. People are also required to help with the smaller cleaning jobs around the Theatre after the maintenance is complete. If you think you can spare some time there are morning, afternoon or evening working sessions. Keith is awaiting your call! Or just come along on Monday evenings (Stage Door at the rear of the Theatre 7pm till 9 pm) and see any of the maintenance team. Come and join the crew, you’ll get a warm welcome and workshop? It may be in there with there’s always a break, a brew and biscuits at some point during the work session. Tues 2nd to Sat 6th June at 7.30 pm nightly Carrying on with the established tradition of staging a BBC television sitcom it is now time to take your pew for the Theatre Company’s latest offering, the hilarious ‘The Vicar of Dibley’, which is being staged Tues 2nd to Sat 6th June at 7.30pm nightly. Hugo Geraldine Alice Josh Hindle Angela Boult Georgina Smith Life in the sleepy Oxfordshire village of Dibley is turned upside-down when the ancient Rev Pottle dies. The arrival of a new Vicar is met with a mixture of wonder and horror from the assorted collection of rural yokels who call Dibley home. They are all expecting a male incumbent for the post but they sent a new fangled ’Babe with a bob cut and a magnificent bosom’ in the form of the Rev. Geraldine Granger played by Angela Boult. Georgina Smith takes on the role of dizzy Verger Alice Tinker and Barry Jackson the straight laced David Horton. Josh Hindle plays Hugo Horton, newcomer to the Theatre Company Damian Marsh takes on the role of “No No No” Jim Trott while Orm Green plays Frank Pickle. Ken Horsfield will play Owen Newitt, Andrea Jackson Mrs Cropley and Stevan Manley will play David’s brother Simon. There will be a few surprises in store as the cast will include some newcomers to the Hippodrome who have never before ventured on stage (and probably never will again according to our stage manager). But you will have to come along and see this very funny play to find out who or what they are. The play is Directed by Fiona Thompson. It is based on an original script by Richard Curtis and Paul Mayhew-Archer and has been specially adapted for the stage by Joyce Branagh. It is by kind permission of Richard Curtis and Tiger Aspect Productions supporting Comic Relief. Relive the arrival of the new Vicar, be part of the congregation and meet again the many insane inhabitants of the quiet village of Dibley. All Tickets £7 See page 2 for ways to book your seats. Geraldine and Alice 4 DOUBLE CELEBRATION In 2009 Claire Norton journeyed over from Manchester every week acting as chauffer for her friend who was playing the leading man in the Theatre Company’s production of ‘The Scarlet Pimpernel’. Claire decided that she might as well join the cast herself rather than sit on the sidelines just waiting for the return trip and she thoroughly enjoyed her venture on to the Pendle Hippodrome stage. However she could not have known what a huge step she was taking by joining the production and that it would change her life forever. For during the show she met her future husband, long time member of Pendle Hippodrome Theatre Company and its predecessors, Andrew Scott. Andrew and Claire were married on 10th April 2015 in Skipton and the Cer em on y was followed by a celebration and Naming Day for their 18 month old son Jacob at Barley Village Hall which was attended by their family and friends. The Theatre connection did not end there and the couple were delighted to have the Naming Day Ceremony performed by the Theatre's very own Richard Sanderson and Paul and Fiona Thompson are thrilled to take on the role of two of Jacob’s Godparents. Plus an Afternoon Tea was supplied by the Theatre’s regular catering organiser Thelma Greenwood. Andrew and Claire would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes and support. Congratulations to Andrew, Claire and Jacob Once again our wardrobe ladies have excelled themselves by raising £8110 over the year 2014. The regular Monday night team is Pam Lomax, Jen Lomax (no relation), Margaret Roberts, Marilyn W alton, Pat Edwar ds , Ir ene Bleasdale, Florence Shackleton and Barbara Simons. They are assisted by Shirley Kenyon who drops in to help with sewing and running repairs and Milly Greenwood who keeps an eye on our stock of wigs. The ladies bring a wealth of experience to the task as they number five ex wardrobe mistresses from Colne Operatic Soc. St John’s AODS, Freelance, the Theatre Company and the Youth Theatre. They enjoy not only the hurly burly of Monday hire nights but spend a lot of time keeping the costumes clean, mended and ready for use in our own shows, and making or sourcing new costumes to add to the stock. Well done ladies and thank you. Keep up the good work. Wardrobe and Props will be closing for their usual summer sort out and holidays. Last hire is Mon 20th July 9.00 pm and they reopen on Monday 7th September at 7.00 pm CLOSED MON 27th JULY to MON 31ST AUGUST A new false ceiling fitted and decoration to the Fly gallery fire escape 13 Several days were spent clearing nearly 20 tons of rubble from underneath the OP stage. This has now created some much needed storage space for us. Some of the back stage electrical circuits have been tidied up and improved. New lighting has been installed in the under stage storage area. All annual checks on electric circuits, gas installations, lighting bars and cabling, fly ropes and pulleys, fire extinguishers etc have been completed. New speakers purchased and installed in the bar area. There are many other smaller job which have been done too numerous to mention. In a constant effort to improve and expand our facilities we have purchased. Adjustable scaffolding legs to speed up the fitting of the stage extension. New PC and equipment for the box office. Laptop for use within the theatre. Cinema projector to enable us to project films from the lighting box. 2 hand held and 4 lapel microphones. Set of 15 music stands and lights for the orchestra pit. Wireless credit card machine which can be used in the bar and the box office. A roofer was employed to do some major repair work to the roof and guttering. During 2013 the Theatre Company received a bequest following the death of Renee Blackburn, this sum was passed to the board for suitable investment. Last year we purchase a full set of black stage drapes and have recently had a new CCTV security system installed using this bequest. The Craft Fair, Wardrobe and Bar continue to increase revenue and generate a large portion of our income. The Craft Fair yet again improved its profits on the previous year to make us a much need profit of £11,760. The work of the Board was further added to when a decision was made to try and purchase the Derby Arms Hotel next door following the notification of its sale on the open market. An emergency board meeting was called and a decision made to pursue its purchase. The majority of the board felt that the acquisition of this property would help us fulfil numerous items on our wish list and create better facilities for our members, hirers and the general public. Several meetings, phone calls, emails, bids and increased bids later we finally won the chase and the property became ours on Dec 22nd. The hard work now begins in drawing up plans and raising funds for its development and integration into the theatre infrastructure. Although I have not mentioned any shows in particular special praise must go to anyone who has helped the Youth Theatre stage 3 shows in just over 12 months. The committee, cast, crew, wardrobe, FOH and everyone else that had some input, no matter how small. Whilst this should strictly be in next year’s report I would just like to make special mention whilst it’s fresh in everyone’s mind and thank everyone who helped stage the 3rd of these productions, The Phantom of the Opera. The comments, the audiences and most importantly the performances were outstanding and will take some beating. It was a real credit to the Hippodrome Youth Theatre and one we should all be immensely proud of. The Board of Directors would like to record their grateful thanks to all members, helpers, hirers, Friends and visitors for their continued contribution to the Hippodrome. Prepared on behalf of, and authorised by, the Directors of Pendle Hippodrome Theatre Ltd. Kevin Mason, Chairman. 14th April 2015 12 5 PENDLE HIPPODROME THEATRE LIMITED Trustees/Directors Annual Report - Year Ending 31st December 2014 Directors: The Directors, duly elected by Pendle Hippodrome Theatre Company, met on a monthly basis throughout the year to undertake the management of the Charity. Events: 2014 proved to be a very eventful and busy year for the Hippodrome Theatre with again a very high concentration of events packed into the last quarter. Despite being extremely stretched during this and other very busy periods throughout the year our team of willing volunteers coped admirably and all should be commended for their time, effort and commitment given. It has to be said though that the arrival of Christmas did bring a collective sigh of relief from some as this busiest of periods came to an end giving us a short break before we all started again in the new year. There were some landmarks reached and many highlights from last year’s packed programme of activities. The Theatre building itself celebrated its centenary, the Youth Theatre started its celebration of 25 years since being formed and the Theatre reintroduced cinema to its programme with the start of quarterly film nights to name just a few. The listing of events held during the last 12 months may seem a little drawn out however I believe it is only when listed in this manner can we fully appreciate the amount of work a relatively small team of volunteers have put in and achieved in the last 12 months and hopefully will continue to achieve in the future. ladies bring meetings, a wealth of Theatre Company committee meetings, YouthThe Theatre committee Board meetings, production meetings, AGMs and show related members evenings, each with a average of 2-3 hours per meeting totalled in excess of 40 evenings. Also held were:2 steward training evenings 3 dance shows 3 video nights 3 choir and musical concerts 4 social evenings The Centenary Gala Evening 1 theatre tour 9 local school events 10 band calls 1 awards evening 4 film nights The Theatre company, Youth Theatre and Burnley BASICS Junior Theatre School staged public performances over 31 nights in total with 6 nights of non public dress rehearsals. Full day events include -10 Craft Fair days, 1 body building competition, 8 days of dance festivals, 1 open day and 1 WW1 commemoration day, add to this 6 full days of technical rehearsal for our shows this gives in total 27 full day events and activities. Preparation for all these events took place almost constantly throughout the year. Our Wardrobe dept is open to the public most Monday evenings and many of the ladies come in for several days during the week in a battle to keep on top of things. In between all these events we did of course have to fit in all the cleaning and maintenance tasks. Although no major project was undertaken during the summer owing to our involvement in the WW1 commemoration in August we did manage to complete the following tasks though the course of the year. /cont Congratulations to Vicky Royle and Fiona Thompson who were winners of the NODA North West Award for ‘Best Choreography of a Youth Production’ for their amazing dance routines in the Youth Theatre’s production of ‘High School Musical which was staged at the Theatre last October. The Awards were announced at the NODA North West Awards ceremony at the Annual NODA Conference at the Mercure Hotel Manchester in May. ‘High School Musical’ was staged to celebrate Pendle Hippodrome Youth Theatre’s 25th Anniversary and was a resounding success. All our brilliant Youth Theatre can be very proud of this prestigious Award as without them Vicky and Fiona’s fabulous dance routines would not have come to life Condolences to the Youth Theatre productions of ‘High School Musical’ and ‘Bugsy Malone’ who were nominated for Awards but were unsuccessful. Unfortunately the Pendle Hippodrome Company, who had one nomination in the Best Drama category for their comedy ’Allo! Allo!’ did not win anything either. However it is an honour to be nominated and we hope for further success next year ‘Sing Along - FROZEN’ Sat 13th June at 2.00pm Come along for an afternoon of fun and laughter for the whole family and join Anna, Elsa and their friends in Disney’s animated film FROZEN. Sing along with Anna as she sets off on an epic journey with rugged mountain man Kristoff and Olaf the coolest snowman ever, to find her sister Elsa, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter. Follow the lyrics on the big screen with the bouncing Frozen snowflake and everyone can sing as loud as they like. Let the children join in the fun and dress up as their favourite characters and become the Snow Queen, Anna, Sven the Reindeer or Olaf the Snowman, it's pure enchantment. Tickets are £5 Children and £8 Adults Theatre Box Office open Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays 10.00 am to 1.00 pm or see page 2 for ways to book your seats. Editors note; Here is the perfect opportunity for all you mums, dads, grandmas and granddads to score lots of brownie points when you treat the kids to an afternoon of magic at ‘Sing Along a FROZEN’. 6 MESSAGES FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE VEIL Our very own Medium, Andrea Jackson, was invited to host one of her evenings of mediumship ’An Evening with Andrea’ at the Theatre in May. And what a great evening it turned out to be. Almost 70 people came along to witness Andrea’s powers and there was not a seat to be had in the Theatre bar. In fact several extra chairs had to be hastily brought up from the Orchestra pit to accommodate the audience and our catering organiser Thelma was just hoping she had made enough pies to go round. Andrea contacted her spirit guides and conveyed messages to members of the audience from the other side of the veil. It proved to be a very enjoyable and moving experience for all the people present and a few tears were shed. Many thanks to Andrea for an excellent evening. Andrea with some of her audience And They Were OFF A Race Night was organised for Theatre Company members and their guests on the night of the Grand National at Aintree for those who could not quite make it to the Grand event. It proved to be another very successful evening and the races were featured on our big Cinema screen in the Theatre. Thanks to everyone who attended and to the organisers for a great night out. Youth Theatre Changes Tues 22nd to Sat 26th September at 7.30pm nightly with a Saturday Matinee at 2 pm The Wedding Singer is filled with humour, powerful 1980s style music and the inevitable romance. It is a sure-fire hit for both those who lived through the Eighties and for those who missed out. “A wannabe rock star ‘Robbie Hart’ is making ends meet as a wedding singer along with backing group Sammy and George in 1985 New Jersey. Robbie changes his tune in a hurry about ’Happy Ever After’ when he is left at the altar by his own fiancée, but help is on the way in the form of a waitress Julia who works his wedding gigs.” Our very own real life wedding singer Josh Hindle is taking the part of ‘Robbie’ and Jade Brett, who played ‘Christine’ in the Youth Theatre’s Phantom of the Opera will play ‘Julia’. Robbie’s two band members, are David Smith as ‘Sammy’ and Tim Mason as ‘George’. Laura Schofield takes on the role of ‘Linda’ and Cathryn Osborne will play ‘Holly’. Sam Crabtree plays ‘Glen’, and ‘Rosie’ Robbie’s grandma will be played by Angela Schofield. Angela Boult will play ‘Angie’ Julia’s mother. They are accompanied by a very talented cast. The show is Directed by Steve Grist and the Musical Director is Lisa Manley Noda Award winning Choreographer Vicky Royle will be setting all the energetic dance routines. Tickets will be available soon. See our website www.phtheatre.co.uk for all the details. The Board of Directors and the members of the Committee of Pendle Hippodrome Youth Theatre would like to express their sincere thanks to retiring Youth Theatre Chairman Bev Hemingway who, for the last four years, has continued the legacy left to her, to steer the Youth Theatre from strength to strength. Bev however is not leaving the Youth Theatre altogether and after handing over the reigns to Julie Scott will continue to serve on the Youth Theatre Committee. The Youth Theatre Committee and the Board of Directors of the Theatre would also like to thank ‘Aunty’ Jen Lomax for her long and loyal service to the Youth Theatre. Aunty Jen has been a member of the Youth Theatre for over 23 years. She has served on the Committee for 15 years, been Wardrobe Mistress for 20 years and has served as Treasurer for 9 years. However she is not leaving the Theatre altogether and will continue with her duties in the Theatre’s wardrobe department. Thanks also go to retiring Committee members Jackie Edington, Jenny Panesh Jill Cordeaux and Lisa Smith for their invaluable contributions to the running of the Youth Theatre during their many years of Service. All four have decided to step down as they feel that at the moment they are unable to commit as much time as they would like to Committee duties. Thanks also to the retiring Youth Representatives on the Committee, Madison Pearson, Ryan Sparks and Georgina Smith for their dedication and commitment to PHYT. THANK YOU ONE AND ALL And a huge welcome to the new members of the Committee, Kathryn Fothergill, Stevan Manley, Gill Mason, Vicky Royle and Fiona Thompson and the new Youth Representatives Chloe Richardson and Ella Thompson. THE LAST NIGHT OF THE PROMS 11 SAT 11th JULY 7.30 PM Their will be a very warm welcome awaiting PYO Music as they return to Pendle Hippodrome Theatre for yet another fantastic ‘Last Night of The Proms’ on 11th July. There will be a feast of music from this extremely talented young Orchestra. Just to make the evening more special The Arden Angels and The Little Angels are also on the bill. The evening will end with all the usual flag waving and hooter blowing associated with ‘The Last Night of the Proms’. Come along in your red white and blue and Rule Britannia. A ver y enj o yab le ev ening is guaranteed. Tickets: £10 Adults £5 Concessions To order your tickets ring after 6 pm Lisa on 864084 or Liz on 429714 Book now to avoid disappointment This will be a very popular event. Get Well Soon Our newest Theatre Board Member, Martin Cleaver has unfortunately been taken ill. Martin, who runs Foulridge Canal Cruises, has just taken on the role of Theatre booking and steward staffing and is one of the organisers of our Classic Film nights. We are assured that he did not fall off his boat and we sincerely hope it was not his appointment to the Board that made him poorly. Everyone at the Theatre would like to wish Martin a speedy recovery and we hope he will be fit to resume his duties soon. Editors Note; Don’t worry Martin we have wheeled Thelma out of retirement to continue the good work but she hopes you will be better soon so she can get back to making her delicious pies. 10 THANK YOU The April edition of Footlight Forum had so many Theatre events listed in the ‘What’s On’ on the back that it was difficult to fit them all in. This month although we are approaching the Summer Closedown will probably be no different. Plus there will be lots of events that are not open to the public and not listed in the ’What’s On’ such as end of term School concerts that all need Theatre Stewards and Bar Staff etc. On that note, the Theatre Board of Directors, in particular our Theatre staffing team Paul Thompson and Martin Cleaver, would like to say a big THANK YOU to all the people who came along to the Stewards Training sessions in April. We need as many trained Stewards and Bar Staff as we can to staff the numerous and ever increasing events that the Theatre hosts. If you did not come along and wish to train and register as a Steward it’s not too late, please contact Paul or Martin or Thelma (see page 11). It’s not painful and we need more people to ease the workload. If you don’t fancy being a Steward or manning the Bar we always need Ice Cream sellers, Programme sellers, Raffle Ticket sellers and people to help behind the Tea Bar at most of our events. Please ask any of our Front of House Staff and they will point you in the right direction. Sorry but there is no payment for any of these tasks. The Theatre prides itself on being ‘entirely run by volunteers’ but we can guarantee a friendly welcome to all willing helpers. PHTC SHOWS - 2016 THE SUN WILL COME OUT TOMORROW In the last edition of this little missive The Theatre Company announced that they hoped to be presenting either the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice smash hit ‘Evita’ or the fabulous ‘Seven Brides for Seven Brothers’. Unfortunately at the time of going to press there was no news on our request to perform ‘Evita’ as it is newly released and it is a lengthy and complicated process to obtain the amateur rights. As for the performing rights for ’Seven Brides for Seven Brothers’ these have been withdrawn as the show is going on a professional tour. I am afraid at the time of going to press it is still undecided what show the Company will be performing in March 2016, although I can report that another great show has been applied for and the rights are available. You are therefore advised to have your dancing shoes at the ready for the big announcement and the Company will let you know as soon as they obtained permission to perform this spectacular show. INTRIGUED! SORRY YOU’LL HAVE TO WAIT A BIT LONGER. Mr Pennine The Theatre was again packed to capacity when the Annual Mr Pennine Body Building competition was staged at the Theatre in April The pecs were rippled, the biceps stretched and the posses struck as the competitors strived to impress the adjudicators with their finely tuned bodies. The tans made our stage makeup look pale and several competitors were painted gold from head to foot. This is one not to miss next year ladies! Any one for Stewarding? 7 In October last year one of our former Youth Theatre and Theatre Company young members was diagnosed with Encephalitis at the age of just 22. Katie Chadwick was in a medically induced coma for over five months, although still in hospital she is now slowly making a miraculous recovery from this little known, life threatening, rare condition. Katie Chadwick Katie has taken part in many of the Theatre Company and its predecessors shows including, Carousel, Oliver, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Annie and she played ‘Gretl’ in the 2003 production of The Sound of Music before becoming a student of the prestigious Hammond School, Chester, in 2007. Katie’s family have had a long association with the Theatre Company and its predecessors, her Great Grandmother Edna, was the Theatre Company’s oldest Life Member until she sadly passed away in 2008 at the age of 104. Katie’s mother Leisa is a member of the Theatre Company Committee and her sister Emilie is both a member of our Youth Theatre and Theatre Company. Several events have been held locally to raise funds for the Encephalitis Society. Our own Josh Hindle has held a Big Band Boogie night at the Mechanics in Burnley and a Charity Fundraising evening was held at The Rolls Royce Social Club in Barnoldswick. Katie’s boyfriend, Mathew Parkinson and his sisters Olivia Parkinson and Helen Millington and his brother-in law Matt Millington took part in the Great Manchester Run, all of which took place in May. Funds have also been raised from the Charity boxes placed around the Theatre and already these events have raised over £7500 for the Encephalitis Society. Thank you to all the people who have contributed or gone along to the events to help the fundraising effort. Now it’s the turn of Pendle Hippodrome Theatre Company to do their bit and on Friday 10th July at 7.30pm they will host a Grand Gala Charity Concert in aid of the Encephalitis Society entitled ‘The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow’. Katie took the lead role of ‘Annie’ in ‘Annie the Musical’ when she attended Primet High School in Colne, hence the show’s title. Katie’s Drama Teacher at Primet High School, Howard Raw, will compere the show and there will be some sparkling performances for all the family from: • • • • • Basics Junior Theatre School Encore Dance School Moorland International Ballet Elite Pendle Hippodrome Theatre Company Pendle Hippodrome Youth Theatre Tickets are £6 each or £20 for a family ticket See page 2 for ways to book your seats The Theatre Box Office will be open every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday until the show.
