October 27 – November 1, 2014 Harw ood Union Middle/High School Harwood Weekly Update On October 16th, seven young women from Harwood attended the 16th Annual Women Can Do Conference at Vermont Technical College in Randolph. The students who attended the conference included Kelly Myrto, Megan Day, Fiona Adams, Maddie Commo, Maya Garrett, Abbi Merrick and Maeghan Badger. They participated in hands-on workshops that explored STEM and trades careers. These students spent the day learning about crime scene investigations, operating heavy equipment, neuroscience, culinary arts, firefighting and much more!! We are trying to determine if we will have enough girls to field a team this year! Registration for WINTER SPORTS is now open. Sign up now! The Harwood Music Department is pleased to announce the Annual Harwood Variety Show on Thursday, Oct. 30 at 7:30 in the HUHS theater. Tickets are $5 with proceeds to benefit the Harwood Music Dept. scholarship fund – an important resource to help students and families benefit from the school’s private lesson program. Emceed by Cormac Stevens, the Variety show includes performances by Stowe Dance – TRIP Dance Company, Harwood Drum Line, HU Music Faculty, Malayna Johnson, Nina Sklar, Ben Read, I Cantori, Emeric Rochford and others. VFW – Voice of Democracy Competition Why Veterans are Important to our Nation’s History and Future DEADLINE: November 1, 2014 All students in grades 9-12 can apply. We want to reach as many patriotic students as possible to compete for the grand prize: $30,000 paid directly to the American college, university or vocational/technical school of their choice!
