MIDDLE/SENIOR SCHOOL SPORTS OVERVIEW Monday Intermediate Netball
MIDDLE/SENIOR SCHOOL SPORTS OVERVIEW Monday Intermediate Netball The netball courts were a sea of pink this evening with all teams wearing items of pink to support Breast Cancer week. St Hilda’s School showed their support by wearing pink hair ties and pink zinc on their faces. With only three weeks of games to be played before semi-finals start, St Hilda’s School is sitting second, fifth and seventh on the Leader Board. Netball Coordinator: Jane Shrubshall Results: St Hilda’s Storm won 18/9 St Hilda’s Thunder lost 31/9 St Hilda’s Strikerslost 16/12 Regal Raiders Magic Black Technix 2 St Hilda’s Storm St Hilda’s Storm struggled to find their own pace this evening with moments of clean and clear play, but unnecessary penalties were given away and then a lot of scrambling to get the ball back. A few changes in positions to settle play did not help, but in the end St Hilda’s Storm were the stronger team overall and managed to come away with a win. Coach: Charmiane Adamson St Hilda’s Thunder St Hilda’s Thunder played Magic Black tonight and with only six players all girls put in lots of effort. Great improvement was seen throughout the course of the game. Also, welcome to Annie Henwood our newest player, who played exceptionally well for her first game with the team. Coach: Hannah Calcino St Hilda’s Strikers A tough and close game of netball this week saw the St Hilda’s Strikers going down to the Technix 2 team. We were up at half time, but let the game go in the third quarter. All girls played with steely confidence which is encouraging. Player of the Day (and a big welcome) to Emily Cunnington who was solid in GA and C, slotting in nicely. Maddie Watts also deserves a mention with another good performance at WD. Coach: Cassie Hayden QGSSSA Athletics – Friday 17 October QGSSSA Athletics this year was an overall success with great participation from competitors, as well as spectators cheering us on from the stands. This year we have been lucky enough to use new coaches as well as train at Griffith’s Athletics Track, allowing the athletes to make significant improvements in their events. Special mention goes to Keely Whittaker for a brilliantly run race in the 1500m. Keely timed her race to perfection which made for a very exciting finish with Keely placing 2nd. Olivia Burdon and Scarlett Fahey both raced in the 16years A and 16 years B 800m and both placed first in their 800m races. Their result in turn helped the 16 years finish in 7th place overall and only .5 of a point off 6th place. Athletics Captains: Page Whibley and Bianca Bruce Outstanding Sporting Achievement at State Athletics Congratulations to Elle Rutherford and Nyah Bollinger who competed at the State Athletics Championships on Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 October. Both girls had competed extremely well at the Regional Trials to be selected in the regional team which was a fantastic achievement. As she had done last year, Elle Rutherford finished 1 st in her 800m event and has now qualified to represent Queensland in this events at the National Athletics Championships in November. Congratulations to all girls who competed at the state championships and good luck to Elle as she embarks on another national competition. OUTSTANDING SPORTING ACHIEVEMENT IN TAE KWON DO. Congratulations to Grace Mahony for her wonderful achievements in Tae Kwon Do. On Sunday, Grace competed at the National ITF (International Taekwondo Federation) Titles and was Runner Up in her weight division (boys and girls). After receiving an illegal forceful kick flush to the face, Grace regained her composure to win the semi-final. She then performed extremely well in the final to be beaten narrowly. A fantastic achievement! Well done. Catherine Jobson Head of Sport
