Competition 1.1 Schedule 22nd – 25th January 2015 26th/27th January 2015 28th January 2015 29th/30th January 2015 31st January 2015 Round 1 Round 2 Break Final Closing Ceremony and Prize-winner’s Concert Music Conservatorium Bern Music Conservatorium Bern Yehudi Menuhin Forum Bern Yehudi Menuhin Forum Bern Rounds 1 and 2 of the competition will take place at the Music Conseravtorium in Berne (Switzerland). th th The Finals on 29 and 30 January 2015 are located at Yehudi Menuhin Forum in Berne. A maximum of half of the contestants can reach the second round. The best six contestants are admitted to the final round. All performances, including the final, are public. The order is decided in a draw at the time. 1.2 Prizes The prize money is a total of CHF 37,000. Prize money is awarded for the following places: 1st Prize 2nd Prize 3rd Prize 4th Prize 5th and 6th Prize CHF 15,000 CHF 10,000 CHF 5,000 CHF 3,000 CHF 2,000 A creative jury (jury B) will allocate special prizes such as concert performances, etc. 1.3 Jury The jury is formed of approximately ten well-known personalities from various countries, of whom at least one person is from Switzerland. Chairman: Prof. Zakhar Bron. Members of the jury are not allowed to assess their own students (i.e. those they are currently teaching or have taught regularly in the last three years). The members of the jury reserve the right not to award all prizes or to divide prizes between several contestants. The decisions of the jury are final and incontestable. 2 1.4 Attendance / Contestants’ Accommodation The contestants in the competition are to arrive on 21st January 2015 at the latest and are to leave on 1st February 2015 at the earliest. Premature or late arrivals and departures without written grounds will result in disqualification. The competition organiser does not organise flights. It is the contestant’s responsibility to cover the costs of accommodation and food. The organiser provides special offers in hotels. 1.5 Coaching / rehearsals 60 minutes with a répétiteur is available to each contestant in the first round prior to his or her performance. 90 minutes with a répétiteur is available to each contestant in the second round prior to his or her performance. Contestants may be accompanied by their own répétiteurs on request and at their own expense. 1.6 Recordings The Boris Goldstein Violin Competition Association is entitled to record the rounds of the competition, the final and the prize-winner’s concert as well as to distribute or resell the recordings in any form. 2. Conditions for Registration Registration forms containing inaccurate information or the submission of forged/plagiarized documents will lead to the immediate disqualification of the contestant. 2.1 Conditions for Admission Violinists under the age of 30 who were born on or later than 1st January 1985 may take part in the competition. The registration deadline must be met. The registration deadline is 1st November 2014. Under no circumstances shall applications arriving after this date be considered. Applications may be submitted via post, email or fax. The following must be enclosed in the registration form: 3 • • • • CV, including education (1 side of A4) A photocopy of your passport A letter of recommendation from a well-known personality in the music industry Recent DVD recording with one of the following pieces: J. S. Bach: 1. Adagio and Fuga from the Sonata No. 1 in G minor, BWV 1001 2. Grave and Fuga from the Sonata No. 2 in A minor, BWV 1003 3. Adagio and Fuga from the Sonata No. 3 in C major, BWV 1005 N. The committee shall let the applicants know whether they are admitted by 20th November 2014 at the latest. One of the Sonatas for Violin and Piano (free choice) by L. V. Beethoven OR J. Brahms C. Any two pieces transcripted by Jascha Heifetz (free choice) D. Any virtuoso piece (free choice), duration max. 10-12 mins E. Compulsory piece written especially for the International Boris Goldstein Violin Competition by a Swiss composer. You shall receive the sheet music following confirmation of participation. Final 1st Session W.A.
