JAPAN
Our trip to Japan was a huge success! the more I reflect on the experience the more I realise what an amazing
opportunity the trip was for the fortunate few students who attended. The challenges they faced in staying with
their host families, attending the Lily Vale School, touring around the country, using their Japanese in real-life
situations and more will have created memories to last a lifetime. They also made new friends with the Kalinda
students, as we operated as one big group. It was great to see the number of families and student who followed
our blog, and most of the classes back here at Warranwood participated in at least one Skype session. As
adults and teachers we made great connections with the Japanese school and past interns, as well as connections with potential future interns, as well as some wonderful experiences. Of course, keeping 20 excited students occupied as well as coping with all their needs in a strange country, was exhausting but it was a wonderful
experience for us! We would love to be able to include this tour, or similar, as a regular event on our calendar.
We will certainly be trying to make it work, but of course we rely on it working from the Japanese end as well,
especially from a host school point of view.

MADAGASCAR
Tuesday night’s Middle School production of Madagascar was a wonderful night, full of singing, dancing, acting and laughter. It never ceases to amaze me that
these nights are made special by 8-10 year olds, who
do a fantastic job of remembering lines, songs and
dance moves. And they went from 6:30 until after
10:00! Of course all this was put together by the indefatigable and enthusiastic Jacinta O’Leary! An amazing
effort Jacinta!!
FUN RUN
The Fun Run was just that - fun!! Thank you to Kellie Spiden, Jess Chalmers, Jen Brown and all the support
parents for their organisation this morning. It all went very smoothly and everyone had fun dressing up as
well as running! And a big thank you to everyone who has supported us financially!
SEMESTER 2 REPORTS ONLINE!!
As part of our transition to the COMPASS online system, we will be using a new reporting system this
semester. This report will be available online and NOT printed off for each family. The process will allow families to print or share the reports with other family members. Similarly to the move to online
newsletters the online reports is a sustainable practice in place in many schools (most of those families
with secondary students will be familiar with such a system). As well as the environmental benefits,
reduction in paper and printing costs, there will be many hours of work saved for our office staff and
teachers. The reports will follow a similar, but hopefully improved format to previous reports.

Long Weekend
I hope everyone enjoys their long weekend. It is the last break before the onslaught of Christmas so relax and
enjoy.
Reporting Week
The 10th November sees the first of our reporting days. Students have specialists all on one day of the week and
staff will spend the day working on student reports. This semester we will be moving over to the Compass format.
The report will be similar in many ways to the current report, but will divide teachers’ comments into English,
maths and generalist comments and then specialist comments. The new format will be available to parents on
line. This is quite an innovation for us and supports our attempts to reduce paper wastage. Parents will be able to
print their reports if required.

Reporting Days are as follows:
Monday – Middle School
Tuesday – Foundation
Wednesday – Senior School
Thursday – Junior School
Friday – Specialists
Fun run
What a hoot seeing everyone running in their sport gear! Such a positive way to encourage good health, community spirit and raise funds at the same time. Congratulations to the Parents’ Association for their hard work and all
students for their fundraising and participation. Well done.
Middle School Production
What a wonderful night we had on Tuesday night at the middle school production of Madagascar. The students
were great and demonstrated the development of so many stage skills. Well done to all parents helping with costumes, staff and or course Mrs O’Leary.
Evacuation Drill
We had an evacuation drill on Wednesday to ensure everyone is familiar with the appropriate procedures. Well
done to students for complying in an orderly fashion and following instructions as required. These drills form an
important part of our Emergency Management Plan. To all parents- if you are in the school at the time of evacuation or lock down you will be checked off the sign in book, however if you have just arrived like yesterday please
make sure you go the evacuation area.
Curriculum Day
Next Monday we are having our last curriculum day for the year. We will be working towards the development of
our new School Strategic Plan. Students are not required at school on Monday November 3 rd.
