We are inspired by John XXIII’s prophetic opening of the windows of the Church. We welcome the fresh air of the Holy Spirit, inviting every person to share in the responsibility of enriching the life and faith of our community by sharing their gifts and talents.” COMMEMORATION OF ALL SOULS : 1/2 NOVEMBER 2014 Dear Friends in Christ Jesus, All Souls Day is an important day to remember those who have died and to renew our faith in the resurrection of the Lord. It gives us a hope that we all will be at peace with the Lord on day. Yet as you did not lose them in giving, so we have not lost them by their returning. Not as the world gives, do you give, O Lover of Souls! What you give, you do not take away. For what is yours is ours always, if we are yours. Life is eternal; and love is immortal; and death is only a horizon; and a horizon is nothing but the limit of our sight. No human life is perfect. In a way, the feast of All Souls gives us the same message: no human life is perfect. The hope is that God loves us even when we are not perfect and that the love of God does not abandon the souls of our faithful departed. All souls day is about remembering. It is a day to pray for those who have us up, strong Son of God, died. Prayer can unite what death divides. In the feast of All Souls we pray Liftthat we may see further; for the souls of the faithful departed who are being purified in purgatory. cleanse our eyes that we may For us the belief in purgatory is Good News: even though we may not in see more clearly; this life be perfect as our heaven father is perfect (Matthew 5:48) we can draw us closer to yourself that still hold fast to the hope that there is a place for us in the kingdom of we may know ourselves nearer to our beloved who are with heaven. you. PARISH NEWS From the Parish Council Bart Sarlabus Chair From the first Weekend of October, Saturday Reconciliation will be from 5.00 - 5.45pm. “Life is full of consolations, above all, for those who remain united spiritually to the Gospel and the Lord’s grace.” –St. John XXIII, 15 April 1956 Volunteers are needed! Please consider offering yourselves to minister in one of the parish groups including the RCIA, the Baptism Preparation programme, the Children’s Sacramental Programme, or Community Outreach. The 2015 Columban Art Calendar is now available at the Piety Stall for $7.00. When you purchase the calendar, you are participating in God’s Mission and assisting Columbans in meeting the needs of the poor. PASTORAL ASSOCIATE & SACRAMENTAL CO-ORDINATOR—SUE ANDRUSKIN Based on quotes submitted for different types of plaques as well as the inflow of donations from you, we have commenced procurement of the plaques and upgrading of the wall with Nov. 30 as the target date of dedication. The good news is that we have been able to source cheaper options that have halved our initial project cost estimate. As far as funding is concerned, we have received $2k in pledges and close to $1k in cash donations so far. We are continuing to raise funds for these, so we will be holding a leaving collection at the Nov. 8 and Nov. 9 weekend Masses. You can also see me regarding monetary pledges or drop envelope donations at the AV room dropbox. Thanks for your generosity! We reiterate our invitation for volunteers for the new Parish Hospitality team who will be the “face” of the community at masses, sacramental programs and other pastoral activities in 2015. Please sign up at the Parish Office. The last training program for young SJ23 Altar Servers (10 years old+ and must have received the sacraments of Confirmation and Communion) will be held on 3 Sunday afternoons (Nov. 16, 23 and 30). Please register your child’s interest with the Parish Office. The Gatchalian family will host the Nov. 4 rotation of the SJ23 weekly rosary devotion at 82 Horatio Ave, Kellyville. Host families for Dec. 9 onwards are needed. Have a great week! Bart Y O U T H AN D Y O U N G AD U L T S C O R N E R Please pray for our children who are presently preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The children are working with their parents under the guidance of the facilitators who have volunteered to help these families. We are most grateful for the help that they are giving, showing the children true models of Jesus’ love. If you require the services of a Justice of the Peace to sign a document for you, please note that this service will no longer be available at the parish office after the end of November. Call Sue to make an appointment before then. The Sacramental calendar for 2015 can now be seen on the Sacramental notice board in the church foyer and also on the parish website www.john23rd.org.au . If you know of families wanting to know the dates for the sacraments next year, could you please advise them. Amen First Reading: ISAIAH 25:6-9 A reading from the prophet Isaiah On this mountain, the Lord of hosts will prepare for all peoples a banquet of rich food. On this mountain he will remove the mourning veil covering all peoples, and the shroud enwrapping all nations, he will destroy Death for ever. The Lord God will wipe away the tears from every cheek; he will take away his people's shame everywhere on earth, for the Lord has said so. That day, it will be said: See, this is our God in whom we hoped for salvation; the Lord is the one in whom we hoped. We exult and we rejoice that he has saved us. love of God has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit which has been given us. We were still helpless when at his appointed moment Christ died for sinful men. It is not easy to die even for a good man – though of course for someone really worthy, a man might be prepared to die – but what proves that God loves us is that Christ died for us while we were still sinners. Having died to make us righteous, is it likely that he would now fail to save us from God's anger? When we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, we were still enemies; now that we have been reconciled, surely we may count on being saved by the life of his Son?
