7 Habits of Happy Kids

Parent Corner:
“Climbing Toward College & Career Readiness!”
The 7 Habits of Happy Kids is an inspiring children’s
book written in a quest to help every child be
happy. The book is intended to teach children the
essential habits and core values needed for
children to be successful in school and in life. ACS
administrative staff will be visiting the classrooms
each month in order to discuss our monthly habit.
The 7 Habits of Happy Kids will be teaching ours
students the following 7 habits:





Being Proactive
Begin with the End in Mind
Put First Things First
Think Win-Win
Seek First to Understand, Then to be
Understood
 Synergize
 Sharpen the Saw
In addition, our teachers will be implementing read
aloud with our children, and will be reinforcing
these habits in the classroom.
In the month of October we had the opportunity to
expose our children to the habit of being proactive.
The students were taught that in order to be
proactive, they needed to be in charge of their
actions so they could make responsible choices at
school. In November, our students will be learning
about how to Begin with the End in Mind. Students
will be learning how to think ahead before they act
in order to make better decisions at school.

Fundraisers for the School:
* On Friday, October 31, 2014 the 5th
grade parents along with Parent
Involvement Committee held a Pizza
Sale to raise funds for the 5th grade
overnight field trip. We would like to
extend our thanks and gratitude to all
the families who donated to the cause
as it was great success.

Principal’s News
Dear Ararat Charter School Families,
November is a time intended for giving thanks. I would like to take this opportunity to
thank everyone for taking the time to read with your children, check homework,
communicating with your child’s teacher and countless other things you do as a parent
to encourage and support the education of your son or daughter. I also would like to
thank the dedicated faculty and staff at Ararat Charter School, who spend endless
hours to help this school be successful!
Veterans Day
As you are enjoying the holiday in honor of Veterans Day, do take at least a few
minutes to discuss with your child the meaning of Veterans Day and find the time to
pay your respects to all the men and women who have served the country in our
armed forces. Some might confuse the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans
Day. While both honor our military personnel, Memorial Day is to remember and
honor all the men and women that died serving our country in a war, while Veterans
Day, we celebrate all the living veterans who have served in the forces whether in
peace or war.
Spanish Teacher
We want to thank you for your patience in our attempt to fill the Spanish position.
With Ms. Gisele Erazo in place, we hope to have a more sustainable program. She is a
native Spanish speaker who holds a bachelor degree of arts in Spanish from California
State University of Northridge. She is currently working on her credentials to specialize
in Spanish instruction. She also brings with her a tremendous amount of experience
from the classroom as an instructional aid for special education students.
Food Drive
Our Thanksgiving Food Drive will begin November 17! Last year, we delivered over
1,400 pounds of canned and dried goods to the Los Angeles Mission. For 76 years the
Los Angeles Mission has battled poverty and homelessness. We want to help fight that
battle.
See’s Candy Fundraising
We are beginning a See’s Candies fundraising sale on November 10! We chose See’s
because of its fine reputation for quality. Since all of the students will benefit from our
fundraiser, we would greatly appreciate everyone’s cooperation. So please, help your
child by taking orders from friends, relatives, neighbors and co-workers. All proceeds
will be used to pay for school field trips. Our goal is $7,000!
Intervention & Enrichment
After school programs for enrichment and intervention are beginning next week!
Please see confirmation letters that are being sent home for details. Since our
interventions and enrichments are only six weeks long, we ask that students be present
everyday throughout each intervention/enrichment session.
Progress Reports
Progress reports will be going out this week for students who have been identified as
being at risk of not meeting grade level standards. If you receive a progress, please feel
free to contact your child’s teacher in order to identify ways to support your child at
home.
Book Fair
We are excited to announce that we are hosting our first book fair at ACS2 in
collaboration with Erwin Elementary. Come and visit our Book Fair that is filled with
age appropriate and award winning books and enrichment activities!!

For drinks, water is the best option. Be watchful of
drinks like Gatorade for it is high in sodium and
some of the bottles have multiple servings. Limit
sodas, fruit juices etc., these are empty calories.

If your child doesn’t like the school lunches, please
send them with something healthy to eat. Children
should not go the whole school day without eating.
They work hard during the day and need the “fuel”.
Chips are not an alternative to missing lunch.
Students should have protein with each meal.

The safety of our students is our first priority.
Please adhere to the school speed limit and DO
NOT block drive-ways. Traffic safety officers will be
patrolling as a result of the high number of
violations.

NOTE ON MEDICATION AT SCHOOL:
Students are required to have a signed doctors
order plus a parent signature for any medications
whether Prescribed or Over the Counter. This is
noted in the parent handbook. Parents will be
called for any student found with medication. The
medication will be given back to the parent with a
consent form for the doctor if the child needs
medication during school hours. Forms need to be
filled out and returned to school with the
medication in the appropriate bottle. DO NOT send
medications in an unlabeled baggie with the
student. Thank you for your cooperation.

 Every Friday for the month of November the winning class will have a Free Dress day and will play Board Games
