AMERICANISM
November 2014
By the time you read this issue of “SCUTTLEBUTT”, I hope you have exercised your 15th Amendment, which
gives you the right to vote. Even though this is a Mid-term election…it is extremely important! The voting
laws have been relaxed by offering absentee, and early voting which has taken the pressure off the polls on
Election Day.
November has been set aside for our veterans with many events scheduled for the honoring of our service
personnel. Veterans Day is on the 11th and our Post is involved in the parade in Inverness. The 11th of November had been set aside at the end of WWI as that was the day the Armistice was signed ending the war.
It was always celebrated at the 11th hour, on the 11th day, of the 11th.
On November 13, 1982, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial was dedicated in D.C. in addition, is a Wall listing
all of our valiant men who died during that. 58,261 names are etched into the polished black granite. There
is a “traveling wall” that moves around the country giving many citizens an opportunity see this beautiful memorial honoring these men and women.
A birthday is in order for the U.S. Marine Corps as they will be 239 years old on November 10th. 1775 was a
big year for #1, the Army, June 14; #2 the Navy, October 13; and #3 the Marines, November 10.
Our families will gather on Thanksgiving, November 27th and time of giving thanks and sharing delicious food
with our friends. A time to celebrate the harvest from the fields and gardens as they did in Plymouth, Massachusetts back in 1621. This is also a time when many are traveling to visit, celebrate, and watch football
games.

On 15 October 2014 we had a nice memorial service for Sandy White. Sandy served 37 plus years volunteering her time to the Auxiliary and the American Legion. Sandy helped so many, gave so much, and touched
many lives. The Auxiliary Unit in heaven has a new transfer, she's running for office and volunteering. I have
many good memories of Sandy and when I think of her I will have a smile.
Executive Board has changed December Executive Board and General Meeting times. On Dec 9, 1800 (6 pm),
we will hold Executive Board meeting and 1930 (7:30 pm) we will hold the General Meeting due to holiday
season and general meeting would be 2 days before Christmas day.
FYI, in April 2015 new water heater rules will take effect. I'm mentioning this because it could affect you. If
your present water heater is located in a small space where you have very little room like in most mobile
homes, these new water heaters will not fit. They are going to be larger coming in 30, 40, and 50 gallon size
and will require you to relocate electrical and water supply at additional costs. If this applies to you, consider
purchasing one that will fit now. I found this on Google "Department of Energy Gets into Hot Water."

American Legion Riders – Director Tom Voelz
Greetings to all,
We were all saddened by the loss of a great Lady, Sandy White. On behalf of
the American Legion Riders, I would like to express deepest sympathy to Larry
and the White family. Sandy will be missed.
We held the ALR Oktoberfest on Saturday October 11th. Co-chairs Jay and Becky Parker put together a
great event! We were fortunate to have Eric Zawalich providing some great German music. I want to thank all
those who came out to support the event. I especially want to thank the folks who did the work. It wouldn’t
happen without you. Revenue from this event will support our veteran’s programs.
Veteran’s Week goes from October 25th to November 14th. There are many events including the Veteran’s
Day Parade and a motorcycle ride to the Fallen Heroes Ceremony. There is also a Veteran’s Fair at the mall
on November 8th where we will staff a booth and have representatives from each Legion family present.
Watch the Chronicle for times and dates of the events or email me for a full list ([email protected]).

Post 155 sends our thoughts and prayers to members who lost loved ones and are dealing
with health issues. May God be with you and comfort you through this difficult time.
November is a great month, let us start with Election Day on Nov. 4th, just a reminder please don't
forget to vote, our brothers and sisters gave the ultimate sacrifice for your right to vote and be free. Let us
reflect on Veterans Day on Nov. 11th and Thanksgiving Day Nov. 27th. Let us not forget the real meaning of
these special days and take a moment and say a prayer to our Heavenly Father and thank him for our many
blessings.
"Veterans Day Prayer"
Dear Heavenly Father, we pray that thy blessings be bestowed upon our friends and loved ones. We
thank thee for this opportunity to share with them this special occasion to honor our Vets on this day. Father, we will always remember that our Vets offer to make the supreme sacrifice to defend our country. Let
us be reminded of life, liberty, justice and democracy, that we may be ever grateful for our Comrades who gave
so much for their Country.
Amen.

Garry Justice, Chaplain
ALA CHAPLAIN
As Chaplain for the American Legion Auxiliary, I want to thank you all for the support that you
have given me this past year. I can't believe it's been a year now since I accepted this position
and without you, I could not have done this.
The Auxiliary has lost three of our members within the past two months which includes, Joan Chalker
who passed Sept. 17, Betty Rubright on Sept. 21, and our past president, Sandy White, who passed Oct.
8. Our deepest sympathy goes out to their families and friends. We also have several members who have
lost loved ones and beloved pets this past month; may the peace of Christ be with you. Our sick list includes Sig Voelz who has been suffering with her back. Please continue to pray for those who are still dealing with health issues that I have mentioned over the past few months, and those of which I am not aware.
We honor two special holidays this month: Veterans Day on Nov. 11 and Thanksgiving Day on Nov.
27. Remember our Veterans on this day, it is a privilege to be associated with you all, and if anyone deserves a reward it is you, who fought for our freedom. On Thanksgiving, please remember those who are
less fortunate and thank God for the many blessings He has given to you.
In closing as I say every month please continue to keep me informed and don't hesitate to call me
at:

Auxiliary President-Marie Pink
Hello Auxiliary Sisters,
I am sorry to report that Wednesday lunches have been discontinued due to lack of interest and support.. We had hoped to make a few extra dollars by doing these lunches, and we tried, but the patrons of
the lounge didn’t respond favorably enough to continue them.
This month we distribute Poppy Plates throughout the Post/Lounge, please support this endeavor as the proceeds do go to our Veteran’s Fund. Also, Citrus County is honoring WWII Veterans. Attend any or all of the planned
events happening around the county during October 25 through November 16th to show support and pay tribute to these
men and women who fought for our freedom.
Our Membership dues are coming in slowly but surely, please pay 2015 renewals before December 31st.
For the good of the Auxiliary,
Marie Pink, President

Squadron 155
Proud members of the American Legion Family
November 2014
On behalf of the entire Squadron, the Squadron would like to express our sincere condolences to the family of
Sandy White who passed into the American Legion in Heaven last month. Although Sandy is not here
physically, Sandy's spirit of her big heart will remain with us forever. Sandy was an inspiration of dedication ,
loyalty , and determination that will remain with us always. Thank you, Sandy for who you were, and I am
eternally grateful for knowing you.
Special Sons dates for November: Mtg 3rd, dinner changed to the second Friday, November 14 by a request of
the 40/8, menu to be determined. Although we pay homage to all our Veterans, and November there will be
special events for the month, I do not have the schedule, but check the post for updates.
I apologize that I have not been at the post as often as I would like to, however, I have been dealing with
health issues for the past couple of months. I am disappointed that there are not enough members to conduct a
meeting, and dues are coming in at a slower pace than is needed to maintain our programs. Remember, you
need to support your family group activities as well as all the American Legion Family activities including
dinners, volunteering, and financial.
We hope you all have a fantastic Thanksgiving with family, friends, and neighbors, and say a special prayer,
and thankful for what our Veterans have given us.
FOR GOD AND COUNTRY
George Singer, Commander
