A.Y. JACKSON S.S. WEEKLY REVIEW Friday, November 7th, 2014
A.Y. JACKSON S.S. WEEKLY REVIEW Friday, November 7th, 2014 On Tuesday, Nov. 11th, A.Y. Jackson will be holding two Remembrance Day ceremonies starting at 10:20 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. respectively. The Remembrance Day assemblies have been created by Mrs. Henkelman’s senior drama class. All members of our school community are welcome to attend either ceremony. A.Y. Jackson had a great participation rate from our grade nine students in the annual Take Our Kids To Work Day on Wednesday, Nov. 5th. Over fourty-four students attended an open house at Algonquin College on Thursday, Nov. 6th. Students were able to tour the campus, and gather information about the various programs that Algonquin offers. Video Game Development, Health Services, and Electrical Engineering were just some of the programs that created a buzz among the students. A.Y. Jackson hosted a District Review on Monday, Nov. 3rd. The team spent the morning visiting classes, before having lunch with a group of students, parents, and staff. In the afternoon the team developed a series of questions to help our staff build on our practices. The questions revolved around increasing student voice in the classroom, assessment practices, and maximizing the learning environment in the classroom. Term one officially came to end yesterday – Thursday, Nov. 6th. Mid-term report cards will be distributed on Thursday Nov. 20 during period three. There will be a credit intervention session on Wednesday, Nov. 12th at 3:20 p.m., in the school library, to support students in providing more evidence of their learning (i.e. help in completing missed assessments). A group of parents and the 2014 student Prom organizers are working together to create a memorable Prom experience for all members of the class of 2015. A survey is being constructed to find out specifics of what the class of 2015 wants in their Prom experience. The Prom survey will be available during the week of Nov. 17th- Nov. 21st.
