Notes on Use
Baud Rate for Serial Communication
If the Agilent 1290 or 1260 stack is configured for Serial (RS232) communication, ensure
that the baud rate is set in the Analyst® software to 19200.
Purging and Priming using the Analyst® software
The 4220A Binary Pump now uses an integrated software-controlled purge valve.
Previously, users were responsible for manually purging and priming via a manual valve.
Analyst now supports this new functionality in both the Acquisition Method Editor and
Manual Tuning via a new Purge option.

Ensure that the “Use” option is
selected when using the Purge option
New Purge Control
Figure 2: New Purge Control in Manual Tuning
When the Purge option is activated, the Agilent 1290 Binary Pump will open the purge
valve, allowing system purging.
When creating a purging, only the Total Time, Flow Rate and A/B(%) fields are used.
Anything entered into the Limits, Limits (Advanced) and Micro Mode tabs will be
ignored.
Users can either use Manual Tuning to purge or prime their system, or they can create
an acquisition method that will be used exclusively for purging. This method can be
submitted via the Acquisition Batch Editor in the same manner as acquisition methods.
Note that in this scenario, the mass spectrometer will acquire data to the specified .wiff
file.

Changes to DAD Acquisition
The Agilent 4212A and 4212B DADs have a single lamp source, rather than two lamps
as in previous DAD models. As a result, the usable wavelength range has been changed
to 190–640 nm. Additionally, the 4212A DAD supports slit widths up to 8 nm, and the
4212B has a fixed slit width of 4nm.

Note: It is possible that the patch will work with older revisions of firmware, but to
ensure maximum compatibility and interoperability, it is recommended to upgrade to
these firmware revisions when using this patch.

Known Issues and Limitations
Incompatibility with Hardware Profiles Created with Previous Versions of the
Agilent Devices Patch
Any Hardware Profiles created with previous versions of the Analyst® 1.5.1 Patch for
Agilent Devices or the Analyst® 1.5.1HF Patch for Agilent Devices must be recreated, as
they are incompatible with this patch. Acquisition Methods created with these patches
will continue to function as intended.
Fractional Injection Volumes are Not Supported
When fractional volumes are injected, the decimal portion will be truncated and only the
integer value will be injected. For example, if an injection of 2.5 µL is attempted, the
actual injection will be 2 µL.
DAD Acquisitions Above 40Hz Are Not Currently Supported
It is currently recommended to acquire DAD data for both the G4212A and G4212B
detectors at acquisition rates of 40Hz and below. Support for rates higher than 40Hz
has not yet been finalized.
Errors in Application Event Log When Using Older Firmware
When using firmware older than those specified in Table 1, users may see errors in the
Application Event Log when using 1260 or 1290 devices. This is caused by commands
implemented for new firmware that is unrecognized by older firmware.
Improper Labeling of Devices
If a 1260 or 1290 device is not updated to the tested firmware revision (Table 1), it is
possible that devices may be displayed as older models.
