Help Joe Survive Cancer
The November 16 Friends of Joe LaValley Packers Party is cancelled due to the
NFL game time change from noon to mid-afternoon. If you wish to support Joe
LaValley, who is now undergoing cancer treatment, please return your Friends of Joe's
T-shirt order (order form available on the Mustang Memo website) to your child's
teacher by Thurs., November 20, or donate to Joe at www.FriendsOfJoes.com.
Fundraiser next Wednesday
Here’s an easy way to raise money for Merton schools. Visit the Culver’s located just
off of Hwy. 83 and Cardinal Lane in Hartland on Wed., November 19th from 4:00-8:00
pm and enjoy a meal or treat. Culvers will donate a portion of the evening’s proceeds
to us!
Parent Notes for Students Leaving School Early
There are several events happening on Fri., November 21st in which parents may be
signing their children out of school before 4:00 pm. These events include but are not
limited to the state high school football championship game in Madison, a swim meet
and the start of the hunting season. All students leaving school early are required to
bring a parent note to the office. This is particularly important for children leaving school
with someone other than their own parent. Notes can be delivered to Mrs. Emmerich in
advance of November 21st. Students expecting to leave early without a parent note on
file in the office will not be dismissed. Feel free to send your note via email to
[email protected].
Superintendent Russ Community Forums
Superintendent Ron Russ is hosting two community forums to talk about issues,
concerns, comments, etc. surrounding our district and/or public education. Topics may
include trimesters vs. semesters, budget, assessments, curriculum and instruction new
to the district this year and more. Mark your calendar and plan to attend!
Tues., November 18th at 9:00 am in the Primary School library
Wed., November 19th at 6:00 pm in the Intermediate School Little Theatre
Attention 7th & 8th grade Boys Basketball Players
Sign Up DEADLINE is next Friday!
The pre-basketball season starts on Mon., January 5th. Arrowhead Area
Middle School Athletic Conference (AMSAC) league rules state that
teams in 7th grade will be split evenly and 8th grade will be split A/B.
AMSAC has an 8th grade B league and tournament. All teams, A B, or
even split, will work on skill building and team concepts. Prior to the start of
the season all players will be involved in a skills assessment with specific
dates to be announced. Starting January 5 th, teams will be decided and the
regular season and practice starts. While there is no formal “sign-up sheet”, interested
players are considered part of a Merton Mustang basketball team upon receipt of their
paid athletic fee and signed forms. Basketball packets are available in the
Intermediate School commons for interested 7th & 8th grade boys. All players and
parents must read and sign the Merton School Athletic Handbook. The handbook
includes mission statements, goals, expectations, eligibility, and important information of
the risks of concussions and head injuries. A $65.00 athletic fee and signed forms
are due by Fri., November 21st. (This date is a deadline, not a target date!)
Competitive games begin the week of January 12th. A practice and game schedule will
be given to the boys at the start of the season. Please check the schedule when you
are planning appointments, etc. Our expectations are that the boys come to ALL
practices and they honor their commitment of being on a team sport. Parents and
guardians should note that transportation is not provided by the District and the District
assumes no liability for any transportation related issues connected to basketball
events. Athletic/extra-curricular participation transportation to and from the games is
the responsibility of the student’s parent or guardian. Parents should also note that the
Intermediate School does not permit early dismissal from school for basketball games
and/or tournaments. Athletes are dismissed at 4:00 p.m. Questions can be answered
