Roche Selects Remedies to Clean Up Soil in Multiple Investigative Areas (IAs): IA-1 and IA-5,
IA-4, and IA-9
Residents have 30 days to ask or submit written questions or concerns regarding the proposed remedial actions
Roche conducted a comprehensive investigation of its Nutley site under the oversight of the New Jersey Department of Environmental
Protection (NJDEP) and is now planning to clean up multiple areas on the property.
Under the guidance of the NJDEP and Licensed Site Remediation Professionals, Roche plans to implement Remedial Action Work Plans
(RAWPs) for soil in multiple areas on the campus – IA-1 and IA-5, IA-4, and IA-9. A RAWP is a long-term cleanup plan for a specific
area, chosen after careful analysis of different alternatives. The following RAWPs that Roche is proposing provide for the protection of
public health and the environment, and comply with all applicable state and federal regulations.

s detailed in the IA-1 and IA-5 Soil Remedial Action Work Plan: Excavation and off-site
thermal treatment, excavation and off-site disposal, and excavation and off-site incineration were
selected as the proposed remedies.

s detailed in the IA-4 Soil Remedial Action Work Plan: Engineering and institutional
controls (cap and deed notice), and excavation and off-site thermal treatment were selected as the
proposed remedies.

controls (cap and deed notice), and excavation and off-site thermal treatment were selected as the
proposed remedies.

These RAWPs are available for review in the Public Documents section of the Roche website (www.roche-nutley.com) as well as in the
Clifton Memorial Library, Clifton Allwood Branch and the Nutley Public Library.
While NJDEP is reviewing these RAWPs and prior to implementing any remedial actions, residents have 30 days (between
November 20 and December 19, 2014) to ask or submit written questions or concerns to either of the contacts listed below.
