Hoopeston Fire Department was called at 7:15 a.m.
Wednesday to a furnace fire at Birkey’s Farm Store,
1037 S. Dixie Hwy. No injuries were reported.
Firemen were called at 11:58 a.m. Wednesday to
Centennial Manor, 426 E. Honeywell, for people
trapped in a malfunctioning elevator. The people were
freed and the elevator taken out of service for repairs.

A 65-year-old Hoopeston woman reported at 7:42
a.m. Wednesday that someone tried to enter her garage,
damaging the door in the process. The damage occurred
in the 600 block of east Honeywell.
Obituaries
HANCOCK - Linda (Bertram) Hancock, 59, of
Stockland, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2014, at Riverside
Medical Center, Kankakee. Visitation was 4-7 p.m.
Thursday and will be one hour before the 11 am.

will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery, Stockland.

TARTER - Jim Tarter, 61, of Alvin, died at 5:03
p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014, at home. Visitation
will be from 10 a.m. until the noon celebration of his
life Saturday at Wolfe-Blurton Funeral Chapel, Potomac. Burial will follow in Collison Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Middlefork Youth Sports.
