Sewage dispute
talks underway
NEGOTIATIONS
are
underway to resolve a
financial dispute that threatened to result in a luxury
housing development being
swamped with overflowing
sewage.
A Dubai-based company that
operates a water treatment centre for Riffa Views last month
said it was planning to shut it
down, claiming it was owed
BD4 million.
Metito initially set a December 1 deadline for payment, but
agreed to continue operating
the Riffa Views Water Plant –
which also treats wastewater for
the Royal Golf Club and Awali
– while talks are underway.
“In a couple of days we will
be able to find out more,” Metito general manager Walid Madawar told the GDN.
“At the moment we are in a

set of new discussions and the
problem that seems to exist is delayed payments from three separate parties and co-ordination
between them for the payments.
“We are still running, but in a
few days something should definitely be happening. We have
heard a lot, but are just waiting
to get something on paper.”
The plant treats 18,000 cubic metres of sewage every
day and, if it was shut down,
it would take an estimated two
weeks before effluent started to
overflow.
Riffa Views managing director Yasser Alraiee previously
told the GDN that the main reason payment had been delayed
was tenants not paying compulsory service charges.

n Probe into
video launched
AN investigation has been
launched by the Interior Ministry
after a video went viral showing a
civilian man dealing with vandals
who set tyres on fire to block a
road.
The ministry’s Legal Affairs
Assistant Under-Secretary said
a probe was lauched to find the
circumstances of the case.
Redical groups posted the video
online and claimed the man was
using a weapon against the antigovernment protesters.

Works, Municipalities and
Urban Planning Minister
Essam khalaf visited the new
administrative building at the
shura Council.
He was accompanied by shura
Council secretary general Abdul
Jalil Turaif, general engineer
Mohammed Isa Al Jowder,
special projects engineer Toni
robinson and a number of
engineers from the ministry.
The minister explained that
the BD1,810,000 project will
accomodate 191 employees.
Also, 63 shaded parking spaces
will be provided.
Work commenced on January
30 this year and is expected to
complete by the end of January
2015.

A BILATERAL partnership
agreement was signed yesterday
between the Labour Ministry
and the Electricity and Water
Authority.
It involves implementing the
electrical maintenance assistant
programme for 15 beneficiaries
of the scheme titled ‘Beyadi Abni
Watani’ (With My Hands I Can
Build My Homeland).
The scheme is a part of a
rehabilitation and employment
project for Bahrainis.
